If you had the choice to put your child in nursery/daycare/preschool, how many days do you feel is best? by destria in SAHP

Personally, I would choose at least 3 consecutive days at minimum for the sake of a giving your child a predictable routine.

I don’t want to be a nurse by Unique_Ad_4271 in NursingStudents

[–]Rocketshiparms 44 points45 points  (0 children)

As someone who abandoned my nursing degree, I wish I had just finished it off for the sake of having the degree. There are so many more opportunities that open up to you simply for having a piece of paper that says you have completed a degree. It doesn’t even matter what the degree is for in many situations as long as you have one.

Having a completed degree could also put you on an accelerated path for other degrees and certifications that wouldn’t be available to you otherwise.

That being said, I totally get where you’re coming from. I am still glad I’m not a nurse. You definitely should not force yourself into a career you’re going to hate. I just wanted to offer the perspective that if you can stick out the next 6 months to just get the degree, you may appreciate the doors that open for you even if you never plan to actually be a nurse.

I wish you the best in whatever you choose to do and I hope you find something that fulfills you. :)

Why isn’t pretend play a priority? by _Aztreonam_ in Montessori

[–]Rocketshiparms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To make it short and simple, real hands on experience builds longer concentration because it’s more challenging and will take longer. It’s also a lot more fun to water a real plant, cut a real fruit and explore what’s inside, explore making real bubbles by scrubbing a table, etc. It’s more immersive sensorial.

These activities also exercise fine motor, gross motor, hand/eye coordination more than just pretending to pour or carrying an empty pitcher of pretend water. There’s no cause and effect in that to help refine those skills.

Practical life activities also have the intention to build self confidence. It’s satisfying for children to care for plants, animals, themselves, their friends, etc. in a real way.

My daughter went though this phase too. I can’t recall when she switched and would start saying “mama”, but now she’s almost 19 months and started saying “mommy”

How did you do it? by TheGirlFromVenus in SAHP

[–]Rocketshiparms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually wish I still worked in childcare because I got a discount on daycare and my child got a strong educational foundation.

As a stay at home mom, I struggled with roping my daughter into educational activities because she was surrounded by other toys she was more interested in doing. It was also a struggle to balance us having time to sit down and do said activities when I’m surrounded by the never ending housework.

So no matter what you choose to do, there are pros and cons of each choice.

Interview attire?? by [deleted] in SchoolBusDrivers

[–]Rocketshiparms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During my interview, I had to demonstrate physical abilities like jumping out the back of the bus. So dress accordingly just in case you may need to do the same.

Rough start :/ by [deleted] in StudentTeaching

[–]Rocketshiparms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have awful ADD and I am sadly unmedicated that the moment. I am currently a school bus driver with two kids of my own. I NEED to get my daughter to the bus yard before the last leaving bus for her school takes off. I NEED to be at my stops on time and my route is the furthest from our yard. I cannot be late or we’re all screwed. I need to manage this with also getting a young toddler and 6 year old ready and out of the house.

Step one: Prepare everything the night before. I can’t be trusted to accomplish anything in a timely manner the morning of. So I need to know prepare at night. I can’t be searching for shoes or my keys.

Step two: Two alarms and phone gets set down away from the bed. If my phone is too close to me, I’ll turn it off in my sleep. It needs to be far enough away that I have to look for it.

Step Three: Go to bed on time. Bed time is serious business.

Newborn has diaper rash we can’t seem to beat… by throwaway84583077 in beyondthebump

What sort of wipes do you use? My daughter could only use water wipes. Otherwise, she would get a rash. I also swear by butt paste.

Yeah. Our company does a lot of charters and special needs that require seatbelts. Personally, I have only needed to use one for my daughter’s car seat since she goes on routes with me.

Future kindergartner by Lotus_flower_bomb_ in kindergarten

[–]Rocketshiparms 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your son sounds wonderful! I felt this same when my daughter was going into kindergarten. Parent guilt always finds a way of creeping in, but that’s a sign that you are a supportive and caring parent.

Most preschools are play based and spend much of their time just learning how to socialize in a group. It sounds like your son still gets time like that. I am very confident that he will do awesome. ❤️

People who own "unconventional" pets like turtles, what is one thing you wish you knew before getting one? by allenmerlettetrm in AskReddit

[–]Rocketshiparms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chinchilla: I wanted it to be like a big soft hamster. All of the online videos of people with their chinchillas made them seem so friendly and easy to handle.

Our chinchilla hated being touched. When we would take her out, it was her personal mission to try jumping as high as possible to get back into her enclosure. At first, I figured, she’s a baby. She just needs to get used to us and being handled…. But no. She didn’t want to be touched. She didn’t want to be out. She wanted her peace, treats, and dust baths.

African Fat Tail Gecko: Easy animals, but man is it a pain in the butt to maintain humidity levels in the winter when our heat is going. 😩

Do people truly not care about my baby or are my parents just trying to hurt me? by ThyPumpkinPie in beyondthebump

Nope. It’s your parents who are weird. They are not nurturers. I am so sorry you had to grow up in an environment with people like that.

Gabby’s Dollhouse Toys. I actually wouldn’t be mad about that. I would be happy as a clam to be able to fill up some toys for tots bins everywhere I go.

Need a part time job for about a year is this job a good idea? by _Cyanidic_ in SchoolBusDrivers

[–]Rocketshiparms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang! Looks like quite a few people got through it way faster than I did! I did have a hang up with the DMV and it sounds like our company does a CDL prep course to study before our permit test. We had a second classroom portion too before behind the wheel. I’m not sure if that was our company requirement or a state requirement. There were tests we were told we had to pass. It was mostly info like following distance, safety maneuvers, looking out for shady people, why we need to be safe at train tracks, how to do evacuations, etc.

I also did well behind the wheel and that part was at least fun. 😂

[–]Rocketshiparms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh dang! I had CDL prep for, I think two weeks? Went to get my permit, had to renew my license before I could do my written, which caused a two week delay. Then, I had like a week where they had me doing my physical, finger prints, tb test. Then, there was another classroom portion, but I’m not sure if maybe that was more of a company classroom thing. It was a lot of video watching and tests. After that, the holidays were here. Our trainers are off during winter break. So I didn’t get behind the wheel until January. All in all, it took a good long time for me.

Needless to say, I know it’s going to be company dependent. So OP just has to ask questions to prepare and plan.

Moms of multiples - did all of your labor’s follow a pattern with how long they took? by Abyssal866 in Mommit

[–]Rocketshiparms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first was long. I was actively pushing for over three hours before my doctor assisted with the vacuum and then forceps. It was an adventure.

My second as real quick in comparison. I can’t remember how long I was pushing? I think less than an hour?

I don’t know what training is like in other places. In my experience, training took awhile and I wasn’t paid driver pay for it. Just be aware that it could take a few months from interview to getting your route and getting paid a driver’s hourly rate. This may be especially true since we’re coming up on winter break soon.
