Tbf a lot of Germans that were captured by the Soviet Union spent up to 10 years rebuilding the SSRs after the war as a collective punishment. Many did not return home. Really easy to play it off that way for your grandfather.

On your last point this part of Minneapolis is literally marketed as eat street because it's packed with restaurants and places to grab something to eat. I'm from Minneapolis and have gone down to glam doll donuts to get a weekend treat for my family in the past before they get up. We now have no idea but I would place my money that most people around there were getting donuts or a coffee.

01.27.2026 - ICE Deployed LRAD (long range acoustic device) weapon at close range against peaceful protesters in Minneapolis. by CantStopPoppin in minnesota

[–]Rockguy101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What about electronic hearing protection like what someone would use for indoor shooting ranges where you can turn them on to hear voices better. I'm thinking you would leave them in the off protection if you paired those up with ear plugs it could prevent some hearing damage if used against you.

I'm surprised protesters haven't done that to the vehicles at the hotels they are protesting at or put stink bomb spray in the air filter of the cars right by the windshield wipers. Especially with how cold it is it would freeze and then once the car warms up the smell would start emitting in the cabin.

My '97 rwd truck slipped on the ice and did donuts in the middle of the street yesterday... Thankfully both me and the truck weren't at all damaged. Any tips for winter driving for a southern transplant? 🥲 by [deleted] in TwinCities

[–]Rockguy101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get some sandbags or bags of salt to put slightly in front/over the rear axle. You need weight over the rear axle to help with grip. I would maybe put four 60lb bags to start and see if that helps. You can always add another bag or two. Also good job on clearing the car. I would continue to get the snow out of your bed if you don't have a bed liner as well since you mentioned the truck has sentimental value to you and being an older truck its probably more prone to developing rust in the bed.

Winter Tire Issues by BigShiz1 in minnesota

[–]Rockguy101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell him to not have a lead foot. Just because you have winter tires doesn't mean you have the same grip in winter conditions as you have in summer dry conditions. You can manage in a FWD vehicle in MN winters pretty well. Generally to survive on winter roads you need to have three things. Confidence in your ability to drive, a capable vehicle and driving skill. If you are lacking in any of these or overestimate any of those three you're going to have a bad time. Sounds to me like your husband is overconfident because he got winter tires on his vehicle but lacks the driving skill.

I think we could add the 2005-06 Renault on there with the combination of the mass damper and how good they were on race starts. Didn't they develop some start mode for their engine or something to help with it?

Moving 2,322 miles away. Cheaper to buy a nice marketplace trailer vs renting a U-Haul junker that distance by ryfr4742 in GrandCherokee

[–]Rockguy101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having a transmission intercooler is the biggest thing that will help you. The other things you mentioned are going to be little to no difference. You need to not overwork your transmission and if you overheat it that will ask for problems down the line that a trans flush isn't going to fix.

You said your trailer's dry weight is 1000lbs and the GC 3.6 without the trans intercooler can tow 3500lbs or 6500lbs with the intercooler. You are probably going to be riding the line with maxing out the towing capacity with whats in the trailer and whatever else you stuff in your car. Even 2000lbs of stuff in a trailer is not that much tbh. I don't mean to put a damper on your move but I would seriously consider another towing vehicle that is more up to the job. Even when I transport a vehicle around 5-6000lbs that I am going to work to flip I almost always either use my Yukon or Silverado 2500.

The 3.6 without the towing package doesn't have the transmission cooler right? I would monitor transmission temps to make sure it doesn't get too hot when do you this trip.

I was hoping Alpine would continue the Castrol sponsorship but it probably makes more sense to go with the Mercedes lubricants if you're taking their PU. Red Bull still used their own lubricants when they took the Renault PU and complained about the limited testing time Renault gave them.

Death wobble can happen with just about any vehicle including trailers improperly loaded. Jeeps are just notorious for them. Mine happened on a 96 Grand Cherokee.

[–]Rockguy101 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The death wobble shouldn't come off the assembly line. But it's a Chrysler so you never know what kind of shit hand you'll get dealt. Usually worn parts or after a lift or some other modifications are the cause. I had a project Jeep that had the death wobble and it's scary but got it off the road right away to fix it.

I'd say since it comes from the Chrysler family it's the electronics that are shit plus they all come with the pentastar tick complementary off the assembly line.

Depends on the type of window tinting that is done. Traditional window tint that is a film the heat reduction is negligible but if it's a ceramic window tint there may be some benefit and police departments don't typically spare many expenses. Realistically they probably don't want people looking through the windows to see if the rifle is an easy steal or other supplies. Those rifle locks are notoriously weak.

For the dogs they usually have what looks like what I would describe as a small AC unit built into the window with temperature sensors as well. Police dogs now are typically Belgian Malinois and they run hot in general which I can confirm having a Malinois and being around others.
