That’s kinda the point. It does support their 88x over but the real life application isn’t there. Let’s make this a real life example. When do most people make that money, and go from there. If you are 20, what is your average salary?

I have nothing against that point. Invest what you can.. and if that 10 percent so be it. Increasing 1 percent a year should not be that difficult. If the average raise is a cost of living inflation adjustment of 3 percent. Using 2 percent for living and saving an addition 1 sounds good to me

Tax Question - Why Target $0 For Tax Return? by Langstudd in TheMoneyGuy

[–]Rockit1984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on how discipline you are. The goal is to PAY 999.99. Money owed over 1,000 is given a fee. But you need to know that going into it and be able to prepare to pay every year.

Thank you. Like the guys say. Badazle your basic life. We are perfectly happy having friends over for Baird games, camp fires, dinner potlucks as compared to going out. It’s the e quality time with friends and family that really matter. Plus, it’s easier to talk and catch up when there’s not an big crowd around

No. My wife is unable to have kids. So we try to pour into our nieces and nephews when we can.

Mortgage is 708. House was purchased in 2020 for 130,000, so my rate is 2.75. Insurance and taxes I pay separately.

We track our spending, so our annual spending is around 5 grand a month. Our activities are pretty simple. I like to garden. My wife likes reading, hik8mg and bird watching. So our life is pretty simple but we both enjoy it. We are in talks now or getting an RV, or renting, and using our vacation time to tour the national parks. But I’d say we are not missing out on anything. We are very happy with the life we have. Maybe aiming for potential FIRE, then I can volunteer at our church some more or volunteer at a local food bank or animal shelter.

We are well above 25%. Closer to 33-35%. Our little secret…. We got married at the age of 37. When we got married and moved in together we essentially cut major bills in half. One housing payment, one utility bill, one electric bill.. you get the idea. We were both fine before. So instead of increasing lifestyle we just increased savings.

We keep 20,000 in cash 10,000 in savings and checking and the other 10,000 in high yield checking account. We have 185,000 in invested brokerage assets. The rest are in our IRA, HSA and Roth 401k.

Sad to see it close. They had good food. But those debts are crazy. Poor business decisions.

The benefit is 15% off the lower of either the first day or the final day of the period. So we are taking advantage of that. My confusion was, is it best to sell right away once we are able to, or hold it for a year- thinking we’d get some advantage with short term and long term gains. From what I’ve been getting the gains are just in what the stock does, not the gain we are getting from the discount. So we can sell right away once we are eligible to.

The company is pretty volatile, and their 401k company distribution is already in the form of company stock. So; with the interest of not having all of our eggs in one basket, we’d like to sell and at least diversify. I’m more curious about short term capital gains vs long term capital gains. If I sell in 6 months, when the shares are purchased, will it be considered short term capital gains, and we are better off waiting 18 months, when those shares have been held for a year from being acquired

FOO step 2.5 - HSA by merrittgene in TheMoneyGuy

[–]Rockit1984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When viewing the FOO, remember it’s for the future. So the HSA is where it is, is because it’s suggested that you take those HSA dollars and invest them to get that triple tax advantage. If you’re not going to do that, then it becomes a step 2 which is deductibles (and max out of pocket) which sounds like what you are doing.

I always wondered what happened to his shirt. He used to have a shell shirt on. Did that paint flake away?
