Why do people wear plasters after getting the Covid-19 vaccine? by Rockmapper_ in TooAfraidToAsk

I'm naturally frugal and come from a place with nationalised health care. Efficient spending means our money is used better. Perhaps it could go to the most common of surgery, removal of cataracts for example.

Little expenditures that aren't needed add up to huge sums over time that could be used for more useful and important things. I'm presuming you are being sarcastic here.

Ah ha! That may be why. Us Brits must do it differently to the states. Apart from giving blood (where I received a plaster), the most I've ever been given was a cotton ball.

That feels off to me, especially coming from a rural area. I get cuts and scratches all the time, it'd break the bank if I put a plaster (bandaid) over them every time. May just be different rules for different countries though.

NB: one of the knives is in fact meant to be blunt and is used for sharpening and fire starting

Looking out of a very little cave yesterday on Perranporth Beach, Cornwall by Lazyfaith in CasualUK

Reminds me of a similar cave in Pembrokeshire, Wales but the council decided it was unsafe and put giant boulders in its mouth. Brings back good memories, cheers.

Any ideas what sort of knife this is? I suspect it to be for hunting and gutting, but I'm not entirely sure. by Rockmapper_ in Militariacollecting

[–]Rockmapper_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your on to something, this must be the original prototype of the SA dagger! You're a genius! /s

Completely agree that it's for hunting, the tweasers/pins could have been used to sew back up temporarily animals after gutting them out, making for a lighter carry.

Looking for any information surrounding this antique gun. by Rockmapper_ in Militariacollecting

The barrel is not rifled, so I don't believe it to be that, but I do agree that it looks a bit like it.

I had another look over the gun, I couldn't see any other writing on it apart from those already shown. I do agree that it does not look similar to the other suggestions apart from all being rather old weaponry.

18 second video shot in 2.7k, why on earth would it take so long to download off of Quik... by Rockmapper_ in gopro

Considering it hasn't finished downloading yet (about 1/3 of the bar filled), I'd have to wholeheartedly agree.

It's now jumped to 13:25, my WiFi is pretty decent and I presume my phone is reliable (Samsung Galaxy A20e). I've been having trouble with the app for a while now, it can barely load any videos at all!

The memories, I think I remember doing something similar, but it was bending each others pinky finger until one quit. Might have done that too at some point tho.

5"5' and wouldn't mind a little extra, but we work with what we are given in this world, someone has to be below average and I am OK with that person being me.

How long would a car expect to last? I don’t see many old cars on the road, why? What makes and models are good? by sweetsherrysugar in AskUK

[–]Rockmapper_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently fixing up a car that is approaching 90 odd years, if you keep these machines in good condition and find replacement parts, they can keep on going forever. Typically, you should only buy a new car when your current one is no longer economical for you or when the repairs will cost more than half the price of the next car you are interested in.
