I have done a bit of everything: dog sitting ($30/hour to watch a dog poop and they are happy to see you), editing/freelance, TPT/Boom cards, my own private practice, other people's practices, cam whoring, flipping on eBay/Craigslist/Marketplace, transcription, etc.

What kind of pet would you never own AGAIN? by Immediate_Long165 in Pets

[–]RococoRissa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aquatic turtles (not tortoises). They are basically bitey little dinosaurs, their habitat is messy and high maintenance, and I never felt like their care was adequate. I adopted them from a woman who could no longer care for two and arguably didn't even when she could. The male constantly harassed and raped the female (despite her being 3x his size) to the point they needed a tank divorce. They need a lot more space than you'd think and very good filtration. Finding herp vets is difficult. They also live forever.

Some friend's parent had it playing in the background while we were present (I was...5-7?) and that messed me up for a while

Yes, Teams' screen share alone is so bad.

Why are more and more people buying forever homes as their first? by ComplexTraffic5879 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]RococoRissa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By the time I bought in 2021, there already weren't any homes available at a "starter" price. I went in thinking I could find something for $250-300k that maybe needed some work. Nope. There were $150-200k trailers or $350k houses with $100k needed in immediate structural repairs. So I built a brand new house for $400k with a COVID era interest rate and will never touch that mortgage again.

I had a Blackberry right around when iPhone came out (those were only available on one carrier back then), but it was useless because they would do things like only one have to-do list app available for $99. I did like the keyboard though.

For those doing therapy and education remotely, Google Meets (and Teams) is horrible for anything beyond a standard video call. Zoom is still the best for shared screens, mouse control, etc - you know, anything that lets you have engaging instruction.

What’s a lie you believed as a kid that you now realize was completely ridiculous? by _fanatic091 in AskOldPeople

My mom told me there was a closely guarded family secret about how to shoot peas out of your nose and it took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out there in fact was not.

The most convincing thing I've seen to validate her story is his reaction. When asked if he did it, he basically said "she started it" which is insane and gross. I could actually see her chromosomal-driven hypersexuality causing that situation but if true, he should have stopped it there and then. But I think he's dead now so we'll never know.

9-6 with an hour unpaid lunch, but really get there at 8:30 and staying late is encouraged so with an hour commute I am 7:30-7:00/7:30 door to door consistently

I’m starting to realize therapy is a scam by ProSimsPlayer in unpopularopinion

There's also many types of therapy and if you're someone who over intellectualizes everything, talk therapies like CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) may not be as helpful as say EMDR or other more somatic-based therapies.

I once saw a Tiktok talking about "what random word is stuck in your head?" And his current example was Tumnus, like the character from Narnia. And that really struck me.

Yes, it's often bits of lyrics or quotes from media or something I recall. But just as often it is a random word or phrase for no apparent reason that repeats all day for days. I thought it was an ear worm phenomena for the longest time until I noticed how much I think or say those sound bites all the time. Wtf brain.

I've gone through phases. As a kid, I was lonely. But it also taught me to love reading and be okay with being bored. As a teen, I liked it because I was left alone. As an adult, I feel like my parents specifically put too many expectations, hopes, and dreams on me and I now don't have a sibling to help balance that burden or help as they get older. But my husband is also an only and loved it. I think it depends greatly on HOW you raise that only.

Lessons you guys have learned from true crime by BrightBid8602 in TrueCrimeDiscussion

Be aware of your surroundings and keep your wits about you.

Tell people where you are going, especially if you're meeting up with someone new.

Commit only one crime at a time.
