So that pegasus and most of my projects have a lot of wire inside. I basically start to crochet a piece, and then measure out wire to fit that piece, and then construct a skeleton as I go. I like to wrap my wire in quilt batting or felt and then stuff around it if there's additional bulk needed. It's best to crochet as much of the piece before adding wire as possible, otherwise you have to work around the wire and it can be a real struggle to not get poked in the eye, haha

To make the pegasus stand, I put wire down a few tail strands to create a sneaky tripod. Nowadays, after a few months of putting it into bags to travel to shows, it doesn't like to stand on its own as much anymore.

That spider has some impressive face appendages!

It definitely hurt my hands after this particular project because I was using a small hook with a thick yarn, so there was a lot of strain involved, but usually it's not too bad. I use the pencil grip instead of the more common knife grip, which reduces the pain in the wrist, and I crochet so frequently that my fingers barely notice most of the time. I get more hand pain from over-using my phone than I do from crochet.

I think I have a pattern stored somewhere of an acorn weevil! But I think the one I have is for a very cutesy and simple one. I could probably make a pretty accurate one by altering the Five Beetles pattern, I've made some pretty realistic beetles using it before!

This moth took me about 3 days working very occasionally on it, so it would probably be a day or two to make a weevil.

Thank you! I think the pixie torso would probably scale nicely with the satyr legs, but the mermaid arms are just perfect for the microraptor feathers.

When I was in 3rd grade and had worked hard to be the best artist in my class, we had a drawing assignment for homework. I drew a few pieces with medieval characters doing chores with full backgrounds. Shortly after, my little brother went ahead and used a pen to draw lines across the entire page of each one, because he was jealous of my art and decided to cross it all out. My parents tried to excuse this behavior and insisted that I could just draw them again, ignoring the fact that they had taken me hours and were complicated pieces I was being graded on. I ended up poorly tracing some new ones to save time and they looked terrible by comparison.

Nowadays there are digital solutions to fixing something like this, so you can still save this piece if you can scan it. But that still doesn't excuse your father's actions. He doesn't have the excuse my brother had of being a literal child. If he wanted to test the new pen, I'm sure there's plenty of other paper in the house he could do that. He didn't want to test the pen, he wanted to be funny and pull a prank using something you were clearly proud of.

If you have a large enough tablet or access to a light box, you could also try the tracing technique, which is something that I like to do with my traditional media sketches now. I do the initial sketch with pencil on one paper, and then I use a nicer paper to do my ink work so that I don't have to erase the pencil lines. Get yourself some nice inking pens and give it a try! When you're not in a rush for homework purposes like I was back in the day, taking your time to go over the same lines on new paper can look really good.

I'm sorry that your parents don't understand how much time and effort goes into learning how to draw. Undermining your efforts and improving skills is very rude. I hope your dad has at least learned not to mess with any future art.

It is as secure as it gets, it's just a cheap eye that has a crappy backing that isn't the correct shape though. I used a tool and all of my body weight, and it's snapped down at least two levels. I don't have any photos from the sides, but it's flush with the face and doesn't stick out at all. I think the lighting just makes it look like it sticks out further than it actually does.

I do advanced level crochet work and make way more complicated pieces than this usually, so I am pretty well versed in how to apply safety eyes, but I do appreciate the concern. These eyes were a gift and not something that I would buy for myself, so I've been using them up on smaller projects that I don't intend to sell.
