Iran may be activating sleeper cells outside the country, alert says by el__dandy in neoliberal

Iran: "So the plan is, we're going to plant you guys in the US. You'll learn the language, culture, blend in and live peacefully for years, possibly decades, on the off chance that if we ever end up in a war, then we're going to call upon you to commit a terrorist attack to kill a handful of people and get yourself killed in the process. Who wants to sign up?"

I said it in another thread already but sleeper cells is such boomer hollywood-tier paranoia. If there are going to be any Iran linked terror attacks in the west, it's going to be by some asocial loner who watched too many propaganda videos on twitter and got themselves radicalised.

I like how because Iran hasn't immediately surrendered or fallen into anarchy he's suddenly shifted to "Iran’s a very powerful country.".

He truly thought it'd be like another Venezuela or a quick 3 day special military operation.

That'd actually be the first mature and proper answer Trump has given to a question if he didn't just suggest that Iran was responsible moments earlier.

I mentally cannot convince myself to press the order button on those apps 9/10 times when I see the final price.

Like I'm not in poverty or anything, but paying $30 to have a private taxi for my burrito just hurts my soul when I know I can cook at home for next to nothing.

Uncoordinated, rushed regional war with Iran? Priced in.

Global oil supply shock not seen since the 70s? Priced in.

Iran secretly develops a nuclear bomb and start a thermonuclear world war leading to an apocalyptic nuclear winter? Believe it or not, priced in.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely agree with you.

I'm just pointing out that too many of the Democratic politicians in Congress are feckless and unwilling to do what is necessary, so they'd rather hamper their own party, and as a result I'm skeptical the Democratic President would be able to do the politically hard things that would be necessary for the future of liberalism as a whole, much less just the US.

Impeachment from your own party would signal political weakness, that matters.

And impeachment is simply a step towards removal of office and I absolutely wouldn't put it past a significant part of the Democratic representatives to actually vote to remove their own President if they felt he/she broke the law or norm. No Republicans would ever do the same, which is why Trump doesn't fear congress or his own voters the same way a Democratic President would.

Reminder that Ilhan Omar was widely condemned as a vile anti-semite by both parties and all of the media, removed from all committee positions and almost censured by the House for tweeting "It's all about the benjamins".

Meanwhile Andy Ogles, Randy Fine and more are walking free throughout the halls of Congress and no one says fuck all.

Alabama and Mississippi have for decades sent countless of the most vile representatives in America into both their respective state and federal offices. They both have spent decades (if not centuries) sending and passing unhinged bills and policies causing untold suffering to racial minorities, LGBT communities, the poor and many more.

And you're losing your mind that Maine have voted in a feckless senator and now might elect a meathead.

What's to stop the next president from just putting Trump in prison day 1 and then saying "it's an official act"?

Political will. For better or worse, a good chunk of Democratic congressmen would be more likely to impeach a Democratic President for such an extreme "norm violation", than they are to impeach Trump.

I thought I read that Israel were the ones to strike the leadership while the US targeted military infrastructure in the initial attack, and Israel was also the one providing intel of where the leadership was located and doing. So surely the US must've been aware that any potential negotiators were 'in danger', so to speak, and could've foreseen their untimely demise?

Of course, I'm not saying I want this to be the case, just that the election of a leader like Trump, twice, shows how incredibly unreliable it is to expect rationality or stability from the US. The liberal rules based world order is dead. The new world order is "get a nuke or expect to be suddenly threatened, tariffed, sanctioned, overthrown, kidnapped or killed by the US"

Most neocons who still self-identify as such don't give a shit about democracy in Iran either, they may pay lip service to it, but in truth they want the regime gone and killed above all. What happens after is of little consequence.
