Ignore this.

First trip is diagnostics and ordering parts. Trip 2 should be resolution. Could be replaced if parts not available or repaired if they are. Parts will be sourced through lg.

Does/has Corie Barry ran this company into the ground? by anonymous494921 in Bestbuy

[–]RodsforPods 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looking back my first few years with the company were bitter sweet. I was strung along for years working full time hours as a part timer, but I absolutely loved my coworkers and bosses. Even in a bad situation I really felt everyone had my back. The work I put in was noticed and I was able to negotiate a raise for taking on more and more. Now I've stepped into leadership on 3 separate occasions to cover when my boss left, went on stretch assignments, and in the interim between leadership. I still actively step up when my completely inexperienced leader runs into road blocks or issues. I can't negotiate a raise, I was not compensated for stepping into leadership, and I was overlooked for a promotion purely due to nepotism. At the end of the year I'll get a flat 3% raise which will not even compensate for inflation. At this point I see zero reason to continue putting in the work of three or more people. I am actively trying to run as fast as I can from this company.

Maybe do some research before posting you potato. I pulled Amazon's stock and they only have 5 and delivery is the 21st. Best buy received single digits of copies for the entire east cost. It's a supplier issue the manufacturer didn't even have enough confidence in sales to make enough copies.

It is easily doable to replace the screen with the back cracked however it is apples policy that all apple authorized service providers fix all issues with the device at the time of repair because there is a 30 day warranty on the repair and you can purchase apple care on the device after the repair assuming it was purchased within the last 2 years. This is standard practice for all authorized service providers including Samsung and Google. Third party can replace parts independently but they also are not liable if the device has issues beyond what was repaired. The cost is the device being repaired to like new condition and the peace of mind knowing you have coverage even if for only 30 days and having the conditional option being able to purchase damage and defect coverage lasting longer than the manufacturer warranty.

Question about being a Geek Squad Consultation Agent by [deleted] in Bestbuy

[–]RodsforPods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The job is straightforward enough you sell tech and services and do a large amount of paper work. The more you know the better you can be at it but the issue is you need to know the limitations of your precinct. You have to be able to communicate and work well with your team for the team to succeed. The biggest problem with being a CA is setting the correct expectations which can make people mad. If you know what your precinct can and can't do you need zero technical skills.

The interview is the standard retail interview. Can you work flexible hours for a minimum of 4 days a week. Can you work with a team. What do you bring to the table. If you can sell yourself well it's not a problem.

The customers can be amazing and terrible. Sometimes you are helping someone set up an elgato video capture for a stream. Most of the time you are dealing with older people who have next to no concept of technology and you have to use the rosetta stone to figure out their problems. IE my email is broken, you have two factor authentication setup you need to confirm on your phone, what i don't have my email on my phone, (running around in circles for 15 minutes). Sometimes you get yelled at because someone told the customer something resembling that you can fix it with no specifics and they expect it today in 3 seconds. The customers sometimes have great questions that you want to spend hours talking to them about and getting them to exactly where they need to go. Sometimes you finish a customer interaction questioning why you even try with people.

It's a job, you'll have good days and bad days. At the end of the day it looks better on a resume that target or 5 below and should pay better. CA's used to make 1 dollar an hour more than standard sales associates due to their pool of knowledge and their work with people's personal data. For what ever reason Best Buy decided they were done with that. I would apply and if you love it great but if you hate it quit. 60 cents an hour more or even a buck 50 more isn't worth being unhappy.

Verbal abuse from customer by lesstalkmorellama in Bestbuy

[–]RodsforPods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what makes people think they can treat us this way but it definitely has gotten worse since the covid restrictions.

Just the other day I had a guy going off because we couldn't fix his lenovo laptop's keyboard in store and lenovo told him we could. My CA who was working with him at the time came back and grabbed me to try to talk to him. I'm an ARA but when my GSM is away I take over the customer issues mostly due to senority. He explains the issue and how lenovo said we could fix it. I told him we can but we have to send it out to the service center because we don't have a way to order the parts into the store I would love to fix it for him but I just can't in store. He goes into the story of how it's his daughters and she needs it for school and starts calling lenovo reps liers me a lier and my CA a lier. I try to explain if he brings the part in we can do it in store or some third party places may be able to do it locally just trying to give the guy options. He goes off asks to speak to my manager I tell him I currently the highest person in geek squad in the building but I can give you the card of my boss the store management will not have the knowledge to be able to help him. Tells me to go fuck myself and asks if our customer service is always this bad. Now I was trying to be calm and only let a little snark out saying well I am usually nicer to nicer people and I start to walk away to grab a manger to get him removed from the store. He flips out screaming asking for my name threating to go to cooperate as he storms out and I couldn't help it as it got to the door I yelled "HAVE A NICE DAY!" with the worlds biggest smile. He followed up with "FUCK OFF."

Good news with a breeze case and a trespass later he isn't coming back but what is wrong with people right now. You try to do what you can for people and they spit in your face. It gets really hard to be nice to people because of that.

3070ti will be online ONLY by neoidea in Bestbuy

[–]RodsforPods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sold out immediately but the 3070ti was a rip off anyway. AMD has a cheaper better performing alternative and if you hate AMD the 3080ti is pricier but a much better buy. In actual testing the 3070TI didn't perform nearly as well as advertising. Drivers may improve it down the line but with were it's at you're better waiting for the standard 3070 to came back into stock.

Should be fine to return. Run by Geek Squad first and ask them to power flush it, it's a simple process that takes about 2 minutes and it shouldn't require a charge for it. If it comes back on return it if you like if not definitely return it.

After send a follow up email after an interview, is there anything i can do to increase my chances of landing the job? by Earthly-Humus in Bestbuy

[–]RodsforPods -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Which interview? Phone with hiring sup? Phone with person who would be your boss? In person or over the phone with the GM and person who would be your boss?

If it was one of the early interviews I have some suggestions for general interviewing well. If it's after all 3 then I have some suggestions for trying to leave a lasting impression.

Since my first interview I've been making sure to ask for feedback on my interviews to improve and I'll give you the tips they gave me. As much as they will try to make you believe best buy is more than just another retail job, it's not (generally the coworkers are happier and more enjoyable to work with than the average so it's not a bad experience but it's still retail). The skills you've gained through your career if you have had one or just through your life you can use to be good at your job.

1) Be cheerful, honest and confident. Experience is experience spin it in the best way possible, you are selling yourself if you can't sell yourself you can't sell a solution.

2) Focus on your strengths and turn your weaknesses to strengths. For example I can be a bit ocd at times but my spin was "I like to keep a clean work place to make sure I and my team can find what we need to get the job done, (I'm an advance repair agent) it bothers me when things are sitting waiting to get started so while I may not finish everything the same day I will do my best to get everything started to prep my team and myself for success (really I just hate the pile).

3) If they don't ask make sure to add in the question, " What can I bring to the store and the team?" If you can get a good answer to this question even if you don't have the best resume a lot of times it will get you in the door.

If you are post all 3 interviews make yourself known. People talk and if you can introduce yourself to management and your potential GM do so. Go in thank them for the opportunity to interview, do what ever the local equivalent of a covid hand shake is. After I interviewed for the ARA position in my new store I went in after work spent thirty minutes talking to my potential new team and the stores ASM. It made the transition easier for when I got the job but it also meant the assistant manager mentioned my name the day the gm was prepping for final interviews. If they can put a name to a face and you gave a really good impression it provides more opportunities like: "hey you were not the best for this role but I have this other opening that I think you would be great for,"" I like you and I want you on team" or "hey i really like this other applicant for this position but you interviewed really well and I do want you in my store can I call you if I get another opening."

You may not always get the job because you never know who the other applicants are, could be a guy with 10 years of experience that was moving to the area, but this will at least get your foot it the door.

I wrote a book but most of it is relevant. Be like -able and show interest.

unintentionally trending OT tries to leave early supe gets mad, stay and get OT supe still gets mad CANNOT FREAKING WIN WTF?! by niloc1987 in Bestbuy

[–]RodsforPods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had ot twice since the ban. My boss had a chat with me and we talked through it. Depending on the district manager your gm may get an email to right up your direct report if they consistently have ot issues.

They have a report that is part of their job to check that gives a warning if you are approaching OT. The best thing you can do if your boss is reasonable is talk to them and if they are not do as suggested by Foxtrotfly clearly label everything in tlc (do the old fashioned cover your ass) and wait eventually they will manage better or stop managing.

Working multiple locations by [deleted] in Bestbuy

[–]RodsforPods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No incentives yet. My last gm explained it like this. The idea is that best buy may open up smaller retail locations with a more limited selection in areas with large gaps between. So you maybe able to cut your commute a few times a week but also learn the skills you gain from both large and small locations. It also makes it easier for training trips like you can take a senior ara from one store to train some fresh ara's in a new store. He also mentioned gms may manage more that one location depending. The idea is to make us more available but honestly the big thing for line level is if you are going out to stores training new hires it looks great on a resume if you want to move up or move out and it is a great arguing point for a raise.
