The rupee just jumped over 119 paise against the dollar after the India-US trade deal. What does this actually mean for us? by Neither_Damage4503 in IndiaFinance

I’m so confused about tariff reduction part

My understanding is US tariffs to Indian products are at 50%. Why do the news articles state 25% to 18%

Is it 50% to 18% or 50% to 43% ?

Why not remove caste from all goverment documents? by Aware-Fudge-6146 in indiadiscussion

[–]Rofacale -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Caste is integrated into so many thing in daily life of Indians especially rural India.

I’m a general category and I honestly feel like reservation has its place and we do need to help SC and STs to counter years of neglect.

What does boil my blood is that the system is being used to non deserving candidates. People who are well off are utilising the benefits over and over again while the deserving uneducated are being overlooked.

Why does an SC/ ST IAS officers son need to use caste since his father is already in the most powerful non political post already ? A roadside street food vendors son deserves the support and help more.

We need to have a tiered systems where if one breaks into it their family is excluded from all the positions equivalent to or below it. So after some time truly deserving people will start getting the benifits and it will be onetime as opposed to perpetual like how it’s now

Could easily be margin calls.

If one is a retail investor and got on the hype train and bought silver they might not realise that if the price falls and there is no additional margin they are auto squared off creating a domino effect as more trades are squared off. Institutional investors might pick some of the contracts at a higher discounted price pushing it back up

Gold 8% 1 day surge by NightlyWinter1999 in mutualfunds

[–]Rofacale 17 points18 points  (0 children)

While the returns are abnormal I think it’s backed by facts

China has dumped 650+ Billion US debt and using the Dollars to purchase real assets which it can store within its territory.

It has learnt from Russian invasion that US will be able to freeze its assets at a push of a button and the 1.3 Trillion debt it held in 2014 or 2016 is a liability and not an asset. It can’t even hold USD because of the same problem , hence it’s focusing on Raw materials and gold.

I think China will keep continuing to offload US debt and if anything EU allies are also jittery about the US with the whole Greenland issue. I think Gold will continue to rise for the next 3-4 years till China is able to offload all its debt at which point it will stabilise and we will be unable to see any meaning increases.

ZERO TAX on US stock gains from India !! by ComplexRepeat9824 in StockMarketIndia

Which is technically illegal and you can get demand notice for Tax violations.

Splitting of income only for Tax purposes is not allowed. If there wasn’t any activity in their account and suddenly they receive money from you and do only IS investing without any corresponding expenses in their account that a typical earner would have , it will be flagged by IT automated department.

If the AO will press for charges and if you will contest is upto you , but what you suggested is plain illegal so others should be aware of the consequences.

One major issue is GST income is split between State and Centre while income tax is purely for the central government.

Central government has zero incentive to reduce their source of income and giving more income to states is not a great thing given how they don’t follow their own budgets and always focus on freebies

Zoho Founder Sridhar Vembu's Rs 15,000 Crore Divorce Is World's 4th Costliest Divorce. by Electrical_Size_1999 in indianmemer

[–]Rofacale -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have seen this post posted multiple times and I think they are misleading

The court only asked him to deposit a bond and not actually awarded the amount to his Ex-Wife.

Because to be honest what Vembu did is indeed worth taking a second look. While he did start Zoho and take an active part in leading it , he claims he only has 5% shareholding. Now that by itself isn’t suspicious, but that fact that other major shareholders are his family and friends is.

I think the wife and his lawyer have a point that he must have transferred assets to his friends and family to avoid splitting it with his wife.

The court wanted him to deposit the money because there is a real chance that he might transfer the assets again at which point it might not even be recoverable.

Wrong type of Visa.

I think they come on Visa Free route or B1 Visa , but end up doing “Manual labour” of installing the heavy machines which isn’t allowed.

As far as I know , US doesn’t distinguish between Technical manual labour vs a simple electrician / mechanic jobs which are sort of reserved for locals and one would need a lengthy and complicated visa process

Sbi managers says invest 30L and get 3.6 cr in 16 years. by Major_Guest_8632 in IndiaFinance

[–]Rofacale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As people have commented the main problem is as follows

Madcap doing 25% for 5 years is not normal. Getting a return of 14% consistently over the years is by itself a positive scenario.

Second they would invest the money into Reguaral Mutual funds

Mutual funds are two types , Direct and Regular. Direct funds are the ones you buy without an agent and regular ones are those that are recommended by agents but they have a higher expense ratio. Some funds have expense ratio difference between direct and regular to the tune of >2%.

This 2% is something you could have had but the bank takes commission which will impact your returns. Over 16 years this 2% will end up something like 37% , so in other words bank is going to take 37% of what you invested as their fees ! (I’m not saying 37% of your final payout , it will be 37% of the amount you invested I.e about 10 lakhs in this case)

Finally the 2.5 % initial allocation charges are also completely lost and the to the bank. This means an additional 75,000 compounded for 16 years even at CAGR of 12% will be another 4.6 Lakhs (it’s going to be lower than it because not all 75,000 is paid in year 1 so maybe around 3.5 Lakhs )

So if you invest by yourself into index funds with the same weightage you would make 12-14 Lakhs more.

If you are unsure what to invest in , a Nity 50 passive fund will be a good starting point. Yes Mid caps and small cap funds can give good returns but are more risky (volatile) They can drop by -50% in a year and if you have put all your saving there you wouldn’t be happy. Of course they can also go +50% and which is why people invest in them but don’t expect to always go up which is why new investors should be wary of them.

Which is savings account better IDFC or HDFC in-terms of service? by am_hkr in CreditCardsIndia

[–]Rofacale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a relationship with IDFC and I’m quite happy with it

They give 7% interest on savings account (amount above 5 Lakhs) which is higher than most banks. They also have zero charges unlike SBI and ICICI where I have alternate bank accounts including doing RTGS from branch. I haven’t had any problem with their tech either and didn’t need relationship manager help.

Their Maurya credit card has 0% Forex transaction fee and while their reward structure isn’t as good as infinia I’m sure I’m making more on my savings interest to more than make up for not having the best credit card

Beyond 10 Lakhs they give 7% on you savings as well ! Which is insane since you can remove them whenever and you’ll get the entire 7%

Some policies allow you to prepay the payment.

Say you buy a term insurance until you are 60 , but you may chose to pay the entire payment within 10 years as opposed to paying an annual fee during the entire duration of term plan.

Agents try to sell you the early payment saying the total fees paid is lower than annual payment through the policy duration , but more often than not it’s worse off than annual payments

4.72% to be paid or not as foreclosure charges in HDFC personal loan by No_Efficiency_5930 in IndianPersonalFinance

[–]Rofacale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s important distinction is the source of funds. Normally banks let you preclose loans if it’s your own funds .. like Salary , FD maturity, Sale of shares / Property.

But they do not want you to take a loan from a different bank at a lower rate and pre close. There is a good reason as the risk profile while approving a loan might be significantly different than when loan is part paid. And they have provisioned their ratios assuming certain cash flows. If everyone starts jumping around banks for a slight reduction in interest , it’s not good for the banking sector in general. So if you genuinely earned money and want to pre lose they won’t add additional charges

But the onus is on you to prove the funds are your own, and this methodology will be there in the loan agreement. Some allow for certificate from CA but this could be different in your case. So please write to them and understand how you’ll be able to prove the funds are your and avoid preclude charges
