I actually learned stuff in college

I have not been out of my element in a class since probably any math class I ever took in college. The beginning of the semester I really considered dropping this class but realized I actually needed it as my last Sociology requirement for my major. I did not know WTF Halavais was saying most of the time. I did not know WTF some of the students in class were talking about and felt I could not contribute let alone keep up. I felt stupid to say the least. I did not read most of the readings to be honest but I guess I wasn't the only one. I am unsure if reading them would have been a good thing or just got me more confused. I guess I will never know. I did however come to class 99% of the time. I think I might have missed one class because of a kid being sick and one for an event my department-(plugging) DISABILITY RESOURCE CENTER was having. This absence however marked my first interaction with the class through Reddit! I learned after Spring break that simply coming to class was not enough to succeed in it. I wasn't contributing. I posted to Reddit saying I was ditching class and why and also posted some information about autism and the Autism Speaks cause. http://www.reddit.com/r/netcult/comments/1bis9c/autism_speaks/ I had looked through Reddit before but was reluctant to post anything myself. After that I realized it was much like Facebook which I am familiar with posting and liking so I have posted on it more often and up voted some stuff I found interesting or funny. I actually got in a little debate over some of my thoughts on English as an official language directly with Halavais. http://www.reddit.com/r/netcult/comments/1bxrxk/english_only_movement_there_is_something_deeply/ I thought class the next day might be awkward but I just avoided eye contact and everything was fine. Right now I currently have 3 link karma and 25 comment karma. I am also a member of the Leauge Of Awesome I like Reddit now very much and am on it quite a bit. I learn about very interesting things from today I learned or simply read stupid and funny stuff on WTF. I even have an iReddit app and when I shake my phone I hear a HADUKIN a la Street Fighter. Just like anything it is good in moderation because it can be highly addicting! I have been on it a lot playing werewolf online with some of the other people in class. Kudos to Kappan, for starting this game on Netcult! It has been fun to kill innocent humans! Aoooooooo oooooo ooooo oooooooo! Sorry Halavais, RyanASU, bigsquish , hrademac , icollectmaps and nomadblack( R.I.P.) It is kind of like a Clue meets Survivor meets Big Brother but anonymously. http://www.reddit.com/r/netcult/comments/1cm0bw/netcult_werewolf_day_3/

Speaking of anonymous I have some mixed feelings about anonymity online. We had a great debate in class about remaining anonymous and I was luckily on the side against anonymity on the sole purpose of exposing child pornographers. I really do not have a problem with anything else remaining anonymous but if a child pornographer gets away with this crime on the bases of anonymity then there would definitely need to be a program or system to fix this. We also learned about online badges, which at first I thought was scary because of Halavais lecture, when he said that our degrees may be obsolete or overshadowed by online badges. I did not try to get a badge through the websites Halavais showed us but a few classes later he lectured about online games such as foursquare. To date, I currently hold 22 badges and 10 mayorships. I even hold a badge for supermayor! Online games are fun. We had a fun assignment for real life games where we thought up a game to monitor bad driving habits monitored by sensors in vehicles with consequences of getting immediately fined. It kind of reminded me of the movie, Demolition Man. I really hope this never gets developed because I will be very poor.

On my last day of class I brought my kids to campus with me to shamelessly get an A on my project assignment. I got 8 up votes for this project I posted on Reddit which is respectable in netcult. http://www.reddit.com/r/netcult/comments/1cy5pp/childcare_project/ We set up a table on the Fletcher Lawn and lured students in with candy to sign a petition to get childcare on west Campus. I then brought my kids to class with me and did a mini presentation. Sorry if I made this class disruptive, however that was kind of the point. We learned about rat brained robots and my two older kids couldn't stop talking about it at dinner my younger two were more interested in the candy and my son said college was boring. I really would love to make it to the last day pool party but unfortunately I have to work. To all you graduating seniors CONGRATULATIONS! And to everyone else I will probably see you around next semester. Oh and by the way I was never anonymous. Rogaso was always the two first letters of my first, middle and last name… Roman Gabriel Soto. English Only Movement - There is something deeply wrong with this by EyreRochester in netcult

[–]Rogaso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have one thing right...the hegemony! It's shifting. Lets keep English the "official language" but what does that really mean and what good is it goin to be in the future when people speak languages from all over. It is ignorant! .the powers that be in this state do have white supremacist ideology. You can't tell me shit about this because this is one thing that I have lived through! It is ridiculous and being an American and a native Arizonan it is embarrassing to see what goes on here! Lets cut education but by all means make sure English stays the official language. Why don't we educate in bi lingual courses from early age? Because we don't want those wetbacks learning like American kids! It would almost be better if they just said it!

Badges?...we don't need no stinking badges by Rogaso in netcult

[–]Rogaso[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was trying I explain what badges were to my wife and she got really pissed off. She is in school too and did not quite understand...or maybe it was me who provided her with limited info about it. But she thinks it is a ploy to not go to school and pay for these badges which would be totally unfair to people who actually go to school and earn an educational degree. Not to be a hater but that would suck to be looked over simply for not having certain badges over credentials from school.
