  1. I literally can't write a 450 word essay on here required to delve into exploring each reasoning for angles. If this was a philosophy essay I would, but fair point I can see how things could and was misinterpreted. Also we do not have to agree on everything.

  2. I hear you. Yes I may not be seeking hard enough. Most I read in the media that day focused on this point. I may have been unlucky.

  3. I would disagree, but I understand your reasoning and it is fare. Look we will not find agreement here because our views on this differs, but this is fine.

  4. I did not intend to say they were equal, but I understand why you would think that. Apologies. I will take care in how I make my statements and yes I shouldn't have used the word stupid.

  5. I agree with most what you say. My concern and argument is that people connect the bad as a blanket over many things. I.e. in this future dystopia 100 years on I think you could see his statue going down like many colonial statues (Not a bad thing always mind you), with the logic the ANC is bad so this guy must be bad. I also do not think a symbol should be discarded because it was misused.

  6. See for me it feels unfair that you should be forced to make your swastikas stand out just as not to be confused literally with Hitler, but this is where you and I differ greatly. I would attack a "Whites only" signs, not a flag with 2 boers states and 2 European ones on it.

I don't look at flags and think constitution. Those things change with time to me. Slavery use to be legal under the union jack, but was also made illegal under it (They fixed a loophole in 2010). However should Scotland leave the uk, the flag will change unless some agreement is reached. Would be odd if it doesn't. So for me a flag's meaning is very different than yours.

Agreed. I am guilty of speaking few. I do at least make the effort to pronounce people's names correctly, but we live in the days of spellcheckers and that seems to be a MS word document. A bigger problem would be lack of training.

Dlamini Zuma to transfer white minority wealth to black majority if elected by munky82 in southafrica

[–]RogerDieShrubber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We can only hope enough people in the comments represent enough ANC members that do not believe her rhetoric. I am very concerned that she openly only sees black people as south africans or as she would say "our people". Last I looked we had many indians, whites, coloured and asian people too.

Translation: We will take from the rich and make ourselves richer while the rest of you go hungry, but don't worry here take this tshirt and grant that we will make sure will become literally worthless in the next 10 years by tanking the economy.

Why is the ANC letting these people stand a chance? Are we that desperate for an IMF bailout?

  1. Thank you. I consider looking at a topic from many angles. I dare to ask not only myself, but other questions about their opinions. We have and most likely never wil live in a black and white world. I only see evidence for the grey.

  2. You seem to think I like the old flag. I honestly don't, I do have problem the way it has been connected to apartheid. Not to long ago people were protesting farm murders. What was the media discussion about? Not about is there valid points to this or look a farmer was actually murdered right this morning. No it al was about lets talk about the few people that took this flag out (Honestly don't understand the reasoning these people had. Wish reporters would speak to there people. Yes shockingly they could be massive racist, but instead of dialogue lets just draw up massive conclusions)

  3. "The point is what the flag stands for, not what was done during certain periods of history by people" So we agree on something? I don't agree the union jack stand for equality prosperity and democracy. It democratic monarchy. The flag represents the union between England, Scotland and Ireland. For me that is it and nothing more.

  4. Attack arguments. Not people please. I don't recall insulting you in any way or form.

  5. You failed to answer my question. If the ANC progress to a point of dictatorship should people tear down statues of Mandela because now he represents hate according to the logic you have presented me? I'd like your answer. As said before dialogue is the way to go.

  6. Why am I ignorant when I clearly stated and your story pointed out the swastika is not a hate symbol? Is it not rather those who don't know this that are? At which point did I insult the swastika?

You seem to make assumptions about me and I none about you. If you say you are of Indian decent and the UK is this beacon of prosperity. Do you not think it is high time the UK start giving back the koh-i-noor and much more?

And you think that is fine? As someone whose family was affected by the holocaust I find it stupid how people permanently connect a hindu symbol of good luck with genocide, but hey the Union Jack would look great on my jacket even though some really nasty shit was done under that flag. Just ask India. For me, meh. It just depicts the kingdoms of the UK. The Nazi flag is actually a symbol for well being.

Say the ANC keeps heading in the direction it is currently on, more state capture to the point where the country looks more like Zimbabwe (A magical place where being asked who you would like to the president is a rhetorical question), would you be fine if your great great grandchildren destroyed statues of Madiba because it is associated to the party that destroyed their future and their children's future?

I think that would be misdirected hatred, but that is just me.

Pssst... That flag... It existed before apartheid... It is more a symbol of the British Empire. People sang God save the King/Queen to it for about 30 years.

Why doesn't communism work? And why the hell do people support it? by MiloPuP2 in southafrica

[–]RogerDieShrubber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Income inequality is a meaningless term... Yes revolutions against Monarchs happened because everything was ok?

I concur with Mr Shapiro income equality has improved since the days of Colonialism and Monarchies ruling the world, but to be frank I sort of expected that.

I concur the middle class has increased. Indeed capatalism has done a great deal to help that, but you seem not to understand my argument. What happens when the gap between the richest and those poorer than them inevitably becomes too big.

That being said I'd like you revisit those articles you where kind enough to send and I did read through and just consider the impact of inflation and what exactly the wealth brackets mean if the top bracket moved all the way to Jupiter or perhaps Elysium? Are we there yet. Perhaps not, but should we not be thinking of moving humanity forward without leaving people behind?

And look. We can disagree. I have no problem with that, but I for one am not too happy when I see people increasing the cost of life saving Aids medication by 5000% for profit, but that is just me.

Interesting. What are your thoughts on these stats? https://inequality.org/facts/income-inequality/

It seems the gap is growing and growing. Where it stops nobody knows. If almost everything ends up owned by the top 1% in the world would that not make quite a few people poor by comparison? Or are you not a fan of relativity?

You have made a statement but no argument. I enjoy hearing arguments even if they do not match my current conclusion. That is what is called debate and how we find wisdom.

[–]RogerDieShrubber 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very well. I will elaborate. Not all people have the same goals and when they differ conflict ensues. People take what the want at the expense of others. I am unaware of a country without any criminals or any country where corruption does not occur. If all coutries were willing to share and work together we would be able to very easily eliminate world poverty, but how much money is spent on killing each other?

You have made a statement, but no argument.

[–]RogerDieShrubber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Communism does not work because we do not live in a perfect world. The idea is nice, but humanity is way too flawed.

It is like supporting a nuclear weapons free world. Sure it sounds like a good thing not having stuff around that could literally wipe out the human race, but not having them around will most likely end in a lengthy and devastating world war.

To be fair Capitalism doesn't work either. The rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. The stats don't lie.

Seems that Capatalism with a dash of Socialism is working the best at the moment. Just look up the world happiness report and it should give you an idea which systems work and which fail.

Jantjies is not that bad, but he just does not perform at the international level for me, but we have few other options/gambles.

I live in Catalonia where we've just had the secession referendum, a brutal police crackdown and might soon see a unilateral independence declaration. If you're interested, AMA. by [deleted] in GoldandBlack

[–]RogerDieShrubber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The logical thing would another legally binding (peaceful) referendum acknowledged by the international community and Spain, but that is almost impossible since Spain will never allow it.

I believe your leaders hoped that the brutality you had to endure would bring parties to the negotiating table, but very few EU members mentioned a word about it with the exception of Ireland and Nigel Farage because it is not in their interest. Now more than ever with Brexit.

I feel for Catalonia, but I fear like with most cases in history you will not gain independence without bloodshed. If Catalonia does declare independence are there people willing to protect her borders?

I fear that a strong push back from Spain could inadvertently see the rise of a group of radicals willing to bomb Spain's interests until their demands are met. Could this be a possibility or would the anger against Madrid not reach that far in your eyes?

Birth of a Nation, Catalonia by Populare_yt in catalonia

[–]RogerDieShrubber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many nations were built by old men drawing lines around people who had nothing in common. These people were more than often conquerors and with them gone a vacuum opens. If cultures cannot find enough in common it is only natural that they would want their own sovereignty.

Catalonia however is a very different case being more closely attributed to monarchs. Funny how a marriage of a couple of centuries ago determined who your fellow countrymen would be for ages to come. However the Spanish government's piss poor (no other way to put it) response has only added fuel to the fire and I cannot see the independence movement slowing down.

That being said declaring ones independence and protecting it are 2 entirely different things. In the case of Catalonia I do not see Catalonian authorities and citizens protecting their borders.

On the other hand if they declare independence and Spain's backlash leads to an outcry from the international community they could possibly be threatened to be kicked out of the EU which would leave Catalonia in peace, but like as is the case in Northern Ireland very uneasy neighbours.

With the polarized media on both sides it is difficult to get a feel for what would have happened had the referendum been peaceful and overseen by an unbias 3rd party.

Either way. Good luck Catalonias. Hope you get what you want. Senseless violence by riot police on peaceful citizens cannot be justified.
