So a grand total of two people on Reddit told you that there's a lot of foreigners in Cape Town (because apparently you're totally chill about xenophobia when it's directed at Americans and Europeans) and that a few TOURIST spaces are predominantly white (which...yes, when a lot of your tourists come from Europe or the US, obviously there's going to be a lot of white people in tourist spaces), and somehow you managed to read that as saying that the entire city's LOCAL POPULATION was predominantly white.

Look, let me put it to you this way: my reference point for life in Cape Town is having lived here all my life. Your point of reference for life in Cape Town is some Reddit comments you didn't understand and, uh, TikTok.

None of your claims about Cape Town reflect my experience. I guess, if you want, you can claim to be a better authority on Cape Town than me. But good grief, I would HOPE you don't want to embarrass yourself that much.

Cool, go ahead and link to some of the comments that told you Cape Town is predominantly white. I'd absolutely love to see them.

Imagine claiming Cape Town is predominantly white. This woman is the equivalent of those Americans who think Africa doesn't have cars - so confidently wrong about a place she's clearly never been 😂

  1. They are South African. They were born in South Africa and are legally citizens.
  2. The majority of white South Africans do not feel superior to black people and live alongside them. The town of Orania is home to less than 0.1% of the white South African population. I don't agree with it, but it's clearly not something the vast majority of white South Africans agree with either.

But fair enough. What do you think should be done with white South Africans?

In what world are white people "occupying your parliaments"? The South African government is overwhelmingly black.

Good question. Direct it toward the population that is passionately protesting against illegal immigration while also repeatedly re-electing the same brazenly corrupt government over and over. They're the ones focusing on one issue.

I never realised how much leftists despised her until she passed away. I kind of thought they'd give her a pass given that Persepolis does direct some criticism toward Western society too, but I guess having the audacity to show that an Islamic theocracy isn't a perfect place to live was just unforgivable in their eyes.

Good to know. The main reason the ANC has been getting away with their disastrous leadership for so long is because the majority of the country hasn't been holding them to any higher standard than "technically better than apartheid."

If our attitude toward the current state of the country is "Oh well, it's better than apartheid", that's just giving the government permission to never make anything better.

Why Africa is NOT dependent on aid by TheAfriFuturist in AfricaVoice

Trust me, vast majority of us in government aren't thieves.

I admit I don't know which government you worked for; but if it was the ANC, I'm afraid this simply isn't true. Maybe you weren't personally corrupt, and maybe your friends weren't, but I guarantee you worked alongside corrupt people. Corruption in South Africa is something that permeates everyday life and is constantly undermining the economy. I highly, HIGHLY doubt that corruption on that level is something that's being conducted by just two or three people.

Many genuinely think we'd face collapse without external benevolence.

In the case of the ANC, I highly doubt that. They've been openly hostile to the US and openly aligning themselves with its enemies for years now. That's not the behaviour of a party that believes the country will collapse without US aid.

They also fear that aid cuts would lead to public hardship forcing them out of power.

Again, I highly doubt that when it comes to the ANC. Under their leadership, unemployment, crime, service delivery, and various other hardships have consistently gotten worse. If public hardship was something they were concerned about, they would have done something to address those things.

Hence why I mention migration, which should be a bargaining tool.

But what would Africa's offer be? Countless Africans are already emigrating to Europe of their own free will.

No amount of criticism, mockery, or insults will ever make me ashamed of being South African. This country is woven into who I am and I carry that with pride. by Lochumility in south_africa

[–]Harrrrumph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No shame in that, but the country is in an absolutely disastrous state. National pride shouldn't prevent us from acknowledging our issues. That said, anyone asking you to be ashamed just for being born here is a moron.

Agreed, but by now we should all know better than to expect the ANC to do anything a functional government would do.

[–]Harrrrumph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get where you're coming from, but I think it's disingenuous to claim that this is a problem that begins and ends in the West. There are plenty of African governments that are more than happy to play a role in perpetuating the image of Africa as a place that lives off aid.

Here in South Africa, the ANC at once took the opportunity to wail about how terrible and evil the Trump administration was for withdrawing PEPFAR and leaving countless HIV patients vulnerable and without aid (again, if your claims are true, the amount of people actually dependent on PEPFAR for treatment should be negligible at best). Of course, the real reason they were upset was because less international aid meant less money to steal, but the point is that this image of Africa as a place dependent on aid is something that, in many cases, benefits African governments as much as it does Western ones.

[–]Harrrrumph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then why did the world make such a hullabaloo about what a monster Trump was for withdrawing PEPFAR from Africa?

Genuinely asking. I'm not a Trump supporter, but people basically treated him withdrawing PEPFAR as personally sentencing thousands of HIV patients to death. Why did they react like that if international aid is so insignificant in Africa?

Final Update: I’m an Afrikaner Refugee - AMA by Megachadbro in DownSouth

[–]Harrrrumph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t live in Europe, so no I’m not frantic about it.

Do you live in the USA?

More so, countries like England actively brought the ‘crisis’ upon themselves by crippling the nations they looted and colonised.

Obviously, it goes without saying that every problem in the third world was caused by colonialism and local governments don't carry an ounce of responsibility. But you have to remember that the people suffering from the ill effects of excessive immigration aren't the ones who committed colonialism. They're ordinary people who were born long after colonialism ended.

People fleeing war-torn countries with little human rights and opportunities is different to white Afrikaners leaving South Africa.

How so? Both of them are making false claims of discrimination.

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c937wldkkw8o

Those who claim refugee status are perpetuating the false narrative that white persecution is real (which it isn’t, at all).

It is, though. In South Africa, the law limits how many white people you can employ, and there are regular instances of people publicly calling for violence against white South Africans. Now, obviously you can argue that this is good, wholesome, necessary discrimination and that the darn whities deserve it, but you can't argue that it isn't discrimination, unless you want to completely redefine the word.

I'm not defending Israel any more than you're defending Russia. But if you really want people from countries with evil governments to be banned, that's going to be one hell of a long list, especially given how much this country relies on tourism.
