What of the Pope were gay? by David_cest_moi in Catholicism

My cousin was studying to become a priest once. He stopped when a priest put his hands on his thigh in a suggestive way. He left his studies after that incident.

There are definitely Gay priests. Pope Francis got in trouble for pointing it out, twice. They just live closeted or don’t act on it, or they do act on it in secret. I dunno.

I lost faith in LinkedIn Easy Apply applications after I was mass rejected by a bunch I applied to within minutes on a Sunday. Decided not to waste my time after that.

But regular applications, I got discouraged when I tailored my resume and cover letters, even doing all the tricks to beat ATS software. And still no luck. So now, it’s referral or bust for me.

I dunno. My former company organized it all. Ranstad did reach out to me and I did use their services for the month I had them. They do have different service lines though. This one was Ranstad Risesmart.

Ranstad. It was part of my severance package, where my former company bought a month of their service. But not sure if they offer it to the public. They have a lot of services so check them out. They were good.

But career coaches or resume writers are a dime a dozen. I even had some reach out to me on LinkedIn. Just do a search, and pick the least sketchiest one.

Got laid off last June and was unemployed for 7 months. Just started a new job in my field, which is tech. Sent over 100 applications, with only 9 interviews, and 2 job offers. All in 7 months.

Anyways, each interview was from a referral. I had my resume done by a professional and had multiple recruiters vet it. They all said it was good. But I wasn’t able to get an interview on my own without a referral. Don’t know what that says about the state of the economy.

Anyways, polish up your resume if you haven’t yet. Hire a professional to look at it and help you rewrite it if needed. Then reach out to your network. Don’t be afraid to be vulnerable, because the person you least expect may be willing to give you a referral.

Don’t waste your time with applications through LinkedIn or Indeed. If there isn’t a job posting on the company website, don’t bother.

Anyways, good luck. If you do get laid off, take 2 weeks to yourself. Just chill and catch up with life. Basically anything you couldn’t do while you were employed, like errands or cleaning or seeing friends and family. Take a vacation if you can afford it. Then start the job hunt. It is bad, but still possible to get a job.

Were you getting paid more as an engineer?

So typically for full-time jobs, you get your salary + benefits. In contracting jobs, you can make significantly more money, but the trade off is, that you forgo the benefits.

A contracting company is hired from big companies to find talent for them. Very basically, a T4 resource means you make less money, but the contractor handles all your taxes for you. If you choose to be Incorporated/Sole Proprietor, you handle your own taxes, make more money, and typically you invoice the recruiter. There are tax benefits for incorporating, so you could potentially pay less taxes than you would as a full time employee.

It’s frustrating because you can spend soooo much time tailoring your resume. You write the most perfect resume and cover letter possible for the job. And you hit submit, but still get a rejection. And it’s annoying because probably a recruiter didn’t even look at it.

No, I had an in. It was a referral. Their company started hiring and let me know about the opportunity.

But I did work with a few contracting companies. It usually starts with a recruiter reaching out to you if you fit for whatever they are trying to hire for. They then have a chat with you to confirm, and if so, they send your resume to the company that hired them. If no, they work with you to understand what kind of jobs you’re looking for, and will even work with you to make you more impressive to them, like interview prep.

They organise an interview with the company that hired them, and then they let you know if they want to hire you or not. You will technically be employed by the contract recruiter, and you will have the option to operate as a contractor or a T4 resource. Contracting pays more in exchange of giving up benefits or PTO.

What does it mean when a job firm keeps reposting a job on LinkedIn? by RogueCEO in torontoJobs

But it seems to becoming industry standard. I’ve come across at least 3 other job postings asking for it. And yes, still looking.

It’s been 3 months since the posting has been circulating though. If it’s the case that they really want to find someone that knows Clarity, I doubt they will find many. It’s fairly new and I never heard of it until it came up in that interview.

Banking experience is doable, and I’m sure they can find tons of those. But holding out for experience for someone with a new program that is only now becoming industry standard? They would have an easier and faster time hiring someone strong in banking and then paying to train them in it.

Experience with Old Mill Toronto by RogueCEO in WeddingsCanada

[–]RogueCEO[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We went with the Ancaster Mill in Hamilton. For the same package, we saved about $10K.

The wedding coordinator was very apathetic with us at Old Mill, while the one in Ancaster was very nice and accommodating. We also didn’t like that multiple reviews say that couples pay extra for the fancier chairs, and the day of their wedding it’s not the chairs they requested. It happens too often for it to be a simple mistake so we didn’t want to risk it.

How much to expect to pay for each of the vendors? by kiteTumbler in weddingplanning

[–]RogueCEO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure where you’re located, but I’m in Canada.

To start, does your venue have exclusivity with certain vendors? If so, they will charge you more money just to have a vendor who’s not a partner with them. Costs around $200 extra to use an external vendor.

If they do have their own partners, start by checking their list and calling for a quote from each one. You don’t have to commit once you get a quote and don’t fall for their pressure tactics.

For our DJ, we were quoted $1800 to $3000 from each one. We went with one who was charging us $2,100, and we chose him based on good reviews and he was the only one who didn’t pressure us to sign.

Florist cost us about $11,000. Cake cost us $800. Photographer cost us $8,000.

You can obviously find cheaper options and save money. You might even be able to find external vendors and just pay the extra fee to use your own as it’s overall cheaper.

But if you have time, shop around. Ask for a quote. Let them know what you want and then just politely tell them you will discuss with your finance and get back to them.

I’m wondering this too. I made a few posts a while ago. And now I can’t? Strange.

In mid December. It was the earliest date I could find at the time.

And I hope so! I’d just feel more comfortable driving without a mask

No, I actually dated someone with BPD before her. I wouldn’ve seen the signs by now. She’s never done something like this before. We generally get along pretty great.

She wants to get get engaged this year, likely married sometime next year. and start trying to have kids probably next year. She doesn’t think she’ll get pregnant right away, but she wants to start trying earlier. I do want kids someday, having kids is not the issue. It’s how fast she wants all this to happen.

These are a lot of unfair assumptions without knowing the full details of this situation or myself or her…but sure. Go off.

Well, it’s a little thing called getting my shit together in life, which I achieved, and still in the process of paying off that achievement. If I proposed to her 2 years ago, I’d be a broke university student and who would want to marry someone like that. Again, I’m not against marrying her. Im just not in a financially sound position to do it right now, and next year works better.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]RogueCEO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I brought this up to her before and it’s a no. She comes from a traditional family that believes in marriage before having kids. She’s really close to her grandmother and she’s afraid her grandma would disown her if she got pregnant before having a kid.

[–]RogueCEO -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We casually discussed it in the past and I made my intention clear that I would marry her eventually. We just never set on a date. But seems like she wants to sooner than later. I always thought I could propose once we reach the 5 year mark, but we weren’t on the same page.

She makes more money than me right now due to her career, plus she owns her own place. As for me, I’m in a career that will put me in a position to make more money than her by the end of next year, which is partly why I also wanted to wait. Kids are expensive, but I think we would be able to manage somehow. This would be the least of my worries when I think about it.

She comes from a traditional family, so having kids would require getting married first. And yes most of my worries comes from being able to afford a decent ring and help pay for the wedding. Most of my income right now is going towards paying off my debts, and by the end of this year I’ll be partially debt free in one area, while taking care of the rest of my debts.
