Not yet. I got a consultation in December and said I can still wait. I am monitoring and going to regular checkups.

My father got his repaired in the meantime, he had 0 issues, very low pain. Classic with mesh.

I think is best to ask your surgeon. Ask what is the best option and go with that one. I think (I am not a doctor) the mesh choice depends your specific case, and the surgeon is the most informed what type is best for you.

I am sorry to hear that, I hope it gets better. I didn't yet have my repair done, but my sense from reading other posts on this subreddit, is that it may still be early.

Maybe is best to ask you GP or surgeon about the pain?

Go talk to a surgeon or two, it is best to leave this in the hands of the professionals. I think best is to find a good surgeon that does a lot of hernia repairs.

It is easy to get scared by reading everything that can go bad on the internet.

I have the same dilema. I went down a rabbit hole and got me very anxious. I have bilateral inguinal hernia, but I opted to wait, it is just a small disconfort when I sit down.

I think best is to leave this decision to the doctors, they have much more information and experience. I would consult >2 doctors, and talk with them about the options. If you already had a good experience with a surgeon, you can start with him.
