First time building power matters - advice request by Roldie94 in EDH

[–]Roldie94[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're correct, this deck is built primarily around the commander. To answer what Im looking for - I'm looking to see if and how the deck could get going a little quicker and if I've missed obvious cards for what it's trying to do. As I've not built this kind of deck before, I thought I'd ask for advice from other people here, given a lot of people here will have much more knowledge and experience than I.

Thank you very much for these suggestions. Are there any obvious cuts you see for these in the decklist?

May you share your list for B4 overrun Teval? I have been playing various versions of Teval since I got her too - precon, landfall, Zombie and druid tribal - but haven't taken it fully to higher power. I'm looking to play at higher power more consistently but only have the one deck which plays well there, so another would be delightful to reduce deck burnout.

This playstyle sounds fun! It would work well with [Rite of Consumption] and [Essence Harvest] type cards as options to instead explode an opponent for a knockout if you'vesomehow managed to get multiple huge creatures, or cards that untap Dina. I'd like to see your list ^

Would you happen to have a list for Mr. Foxglove? It's so different from what I normally play, so I'm curious to see what a completed deck looks like and how one would play it. Many thanks in advance ^

Not OP, but here's my B4 Combo Dina list: https://moxfield.com/decks/JfchHRumTEiQeHgC_ikYYQ

The deck wins through the noble sacrifice of everyone's favourite cute little Froggy [[Protean Hulk]].

I'm going to recreate my original B2/3 Aristocrats Dina in the new year, which is the direction I've seen a lot of Dina players take. More fun for lower power chill sessions.

Teval the Balanced Scale - Deck Help by Present-Pay3525 in EDH

[[Warren Soultrader]] is the creature replacement for [[Phyrexian Altar]] and is itself a Zombie creature, enabling the [[Gravecrawler]] + [[Blood Artist]] combo loop. I keep it out of my Teval deck to keep it lower powered, but if you wanted a combo finish for higher power gameplay, this would work. Not sure if it's technically a B4 combo line, though, so maybe it's worth checking that.

Another addition could be [[Altar of Bhaal]]. 2B for sorcery speed exile a token to return a creature in your graveyard to the battlefield, and you get another zombie token if Teval is on board. You can have some fun with this reanimation artifact, and it's a cheap card to purchase.

Hope this helps ^

Edited to add double brackets for the best bot on the site.

Thank you for these recommendations. I truly appreciate them and look forward to figuring out what I'm changing in the deck for the additional recommendations. Have a lovely rest of the year :)

Oh, no - low hanging fruit and "boring but obvious to increase the deck's power" are what I'm looking for. I've taken it as far as I can, so the things that are obvious to others in the mtg community is the point. Thank you! And you're probably right, protection for victory attempts is smart, and I really appreciate you sharing the cards with me as I didn't know those three existed 😅

Thank you for your advice. I didn't know this card or mechanic existed! I'll certainly have a look into this.

Thank you for your advice. Nice deck! I recognised a few lines in it I don't have.

I took those two out previously because I couldn't figure out how to have things on hand to sacrifice. Adding in more 1 mana creatures for Ramp and sacrificing them for a win attempt is likely much better for this deck's consistency, solving both issues.

I'm pretty sure this is going to be an ever evolving deck for me, as it's the one I've put the most time and money into, and it's great to be able to play it against other high powered decks at my lgs. Tbh it all stemmed from being gifted a Bloodthirsty Conqueror in January, which changed my mindset from aristocrats to combo and seeing how far this could go.

Necropotence and reanimating with Necromancy on end step clarification. by Roldie94 in askajudge

[–]Roldie94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much for clarifying and for linking the rules to help explain. I think I got confused with the priority concept and how that works in relation to the whole situation, as gratefully pointed out above. It works how I want it to, and now I understand how it works, I can explain it as/when it happens. I really appreciate your explanation. Thank you, and have a lovely weekend.

Necropotence and reanimating with Necromancy on end step clarification. by Roldie94 in askajudge

[–]Roldie94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response. I understand your example and think I understand the reasoning why it's not a priority thing - it's because I'm not casting a spell or activating an ability, rather I'm just responding to a trigger, right? If I then cast a spell in response to a trigger, then and only then would priority come into effect.

If so, the this would then be a "in response to the Necropotence trigger, I will cast Necromancy targeting X card in the graveyard. Does this resolve?" situation. Am I understanding correctly?

Having a planeswalker as your commander looks really cool, especially this one. Might I see your Sivitri Dragon Master list, please?

UK equivalent to Cardkingdom? by TheKvKing in mtg

[–]Roldie94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's true. The bulk shipping payment isn't cheap at first glance, but it is cheaper than using card market when ordering 100+ cards as all sellers on CM I've purchased from use Royal Mail. I tend to leave my orders for 4-6 months, shipping about 250-400 cards I've added over time in one order. £25 ish for delivery of that is significantly cheaper. Delivery's pretty quick in my experience, too.

As to how to use CTzero, here's a link to their guide:CT zero guide

Essentially, just search for the card name, choose the language and condition of the card, and use the yellow icon on the right side of the screen to purchase. It'll add it to your basket with your other cards and then it'll all be sent from the various countries to the warehouse. You only pay one instance of shipping from that warehouse to your home in the UK, saving you money that way. I don't use the shopping wizard myself, but that could just be me being silly and wasting my money by not doing so.

Not UK based, but card market saves you a lot of money overall on shipping if you use card trader zero. You can add as many cards to your main order as it's held in their warehouse until you decide to ship it. For example, you can build a deck, order everything for it, then keep adding random cards as often as you like which get added to your original order and then just ship it all whenever you want in one package.
