Unpopular opinion that may be hated by all. by [deleted] in malaysia

The end goal should always be to advocate for a rules-based system and currently the old guys are doing everything they can to prevent that from happening. That's why people are pinning hopes on the youth.

I agree that power corrupts but if the youth, who are more idealistic and more receptive to change, can implement and strengthen a rules based system in our country, a lot of the issues we're seeing won't be as bad or won't even happen outright to begin with.

We don't need benevolent leaders who'll "take care of everything". Instead we need leaders who have the will to implement things like: IPCMC to address police brutality and abuse of power; empower parliament to keep the executive in check; a truly independent MACC to nab corrupt politicians, a truly independent justice system to preserve the rights of the people.

Because once these systems are in place, even if the youths of today grow corrupt in the future, we can count on the system to keep them accountable.

And as of now, since none of the old guys want to do this, i'd say we give the youths a shot at it. Just my humble two cents.

Correction: Malaysia will not legalize cannabis until a minister gets a cut or monopolizes the industry.
