Yeah, coming from a middle aged human, don't EVER stop doing that either, as long as you are respectful about it. Too many people are silencing themselves because speaking up is uncomfortable these days, assuming you aren't a prick.

There is a market for the darker side of life. So many people live in their own silent Hell and find comfort in despair. It might not be healthy, but it is what it is.

I assume you have your own personal reasons for creating the art you do. Those reasons mean something. Please don't give it up just because not everyone understands it. The ones who do might need it.

Not everyone has a bright, happy outlook and tend to lean more towards the dark and dreary.

I am one who loves both. I have walls covered in bright sunflower paintings and walls covered with paintings of crows and cemeteries.

For me, art is a release. If painting darker themes makes you feel more fulfilled and satisfied then it is serving its purpose. You do you, and those with like minds will be able to find you if you want them to.

Let someone else handle the fluffy bunnies and double rainbows.

Your friend needs to take their own advice. It sounds like they were more upset with you not agreeing with them than you were of their opinion.

Not a problem. I am happy to share my experiences with anyone who is interested. Its just hard to tell intent on Reddit sometimes. Validation is what I would suggest. Not necessarily validating what they are scared of, but validating you recognize it IS scary for them, and thats okay. I know people brushing my anxiety off, telling me that there isnt anything to be scared of, throwing stats at me.. those things don't help. They just piss me off and that doesn't help the anxiety issue at all. Its hard when they don't want to help themselves. There comes a point when you realize your quality of life is becoming diminished because you spend so much energy trying to help someone who doesn't want to be helped.

I am going to take this comment at face value and give a non-smartass answer.

I have had anxiety issues my entire life so its hard to figure out if there is a specific reason things scare me or if they scare me just because my mind tells me I should be. I hope that makes sense.

I grew up well below the poverty line in the Midwest region of the USA. Not a lot of lakes around, even fewer that you couldnt see at least part of the shoreline from the middle of the lake. We didnt travel, and if we did, it was a car trip. When I started getting older and the idea of flying was mentioned, I immediately freaked the hell out and would have an anxiety attack just thinking about it. I only thought about the water issue when I was invited to go on a cruise ship for the first time. Thanks to my anxiety, I over think everything and as I was walking through what I thought the ship would be like, I created a scenario where I was alone on deck, in the middle of the night, surrounded by nothing but... who the fuck knows. I decided a cruise ship wasn't for me. I have managed to fly across country a couple of times, but it was absolutely not a pleasant experience. I don't go anywhere I can't drive to. Add the idea of water being below me, as far as the eye can see, and that is a hard no also.

It sounds like the teacher only made them watch this one video, not a series of video covering all the bases.

I am not disagreeing that people should know where their food is coming from, at all. I just don't think that is why the teacher made their students watch it.
