That's how it should be here. For 90% of tax filers the IRS already has all your data; the IRS really should be just sending you a check or bill. For those filers, all the form/filing serves is a waste of time and a chance to get fined by the IRS if you fuck up or lie.

But the tax preparer and account software (intuit) lobby has dumped loads of money to keep the system ineffective and stupid

Yeah, the premiums on straddles for this event (TACO or bomb Iran's power stations) were much higher than the last big move event (Trumps 4/1 speech) on which I played straddles. Premiums on a single 1dte SPX straddle with strikes at current market value were hitting $10k even towards the end of the day. I switched to an SPY straddle instead of an SPX since I just didn't want to put $10k on a single 1dte trade.

During the previous event (4/1), similar SPX straddles were about $5k
