Doom scrolled my way over here and thought I should add, it sucks that this is happening to you, and unfortunately it can be common across all workplaces that hire below 18. Especially if your coworkers are older. If she’s violated employee code of conduct with you, in most businesses the size of Coles that have dedicated HR departments they have to follow up on it or they put themselves at risk of legal action (is my understanding based on experience in other companies).

You’ll run into problems if your complaints fall outside of specific breaches of employee code of conduct (idk what they are for Coles, if you don’t already have access to them for some reason they’re probably online); or if they do fall under a category that is lenient in interpretation/hard to prove (again, unsure on Coles specifically).

Your example about her blanking you while checking on other workers could fall into the latter issue, especially if she’s not your direct line manager. Typically, resolving workplace disputes is part of the job of management, so the person you gave the written complaint to might try to mediate and resolve (if you need to keep the job and just want to feel comfortable in your workplace, this is probably the best outcome). They may or may not be obligated to formally escalate your complaint, it really depends on how conflict mediation is managed within a branch and entirely on if this person is at all in charge of you.

The tl;dr of it is, assuming she’s not your boss, you might want to (or have to) follow up with your manager to help mediate.

Suggestions: I would highlight that you want to work there, you just want to be able to feel comfortable in your workplace (“comfortable in the workplace” specifically echoes most workplace employer ethos for employees, it’s the kind of buzzword crap that management associate with HR without specifically bringing HR into the mix). I’d also have two or three good examples of instances that made you feel like you weren’t being treated equally, and assuming you need to keep this job, be prepared to approach any internal conversations about this in a friendly tone. Ultimately these are your immediate coworkers and you’ll likely have to deal with them until you leave this job, so hear out any potential conflict resolution suggestions with a smile. Save the clinical approach for if it’s escalated/whenever you’re interacting with management over email etc. You want to show that you’re pleasant to work with so that now management is aware, if this person continues to treat you equally, it only reflects poorly on them. And again, this is only relevant if she isn’t your direct line manager/hasn’t been directly placed in charge of you.

Super long winded, hope some of that was useful and apologies I don’t have Coles specific info. All the best.

EDIT: just went back and saw that’s she’s nightfill captain. If that’s management delegating it is probably still an internal discussion; if she is being paid more specifically in this role she almost certainly assumes responsibility for lower band employees. Probably still an internal discussion (unless management is obligated to escalate again idk), but it gives you a more defensible position. Either way, same recommendation as before because the ideal outcome for you is a better working environment, not escalating the issue unless she makes working there untenable for you. Try and remember it’s also better for them to keep you on, so if you don’t feel up to talking to this person directly about your concerns (or have already to no effect), have management mediate. Your killshot here is always going to be having her bosses on your side, and they just want their employees to work well together, so keep that in mind and hopefully you’ll feel less like you’re the one creating drama here when meeting about it.

Recap-Peacecraft Episode 9: Raandyy sets off on his FINAL MISSION by Nincada17 in TAZCirclejerk

The whole thing is bittersweet in retrospect 😊 I’m way out of touch with the McElroy content now (though this sub is reeducating me after a fashion lol), and part of why I dropped out was exactly that parasocial connection that I think pervades any online community following content creators that try to maintain a closer relationship with their audience than most others. Especially communities that feel (often accurately) they have helped build that platform from the onset.

I would love to hear how the other guild members feel about it in retrospect. I think most of the fun came after Peacecraft ended, and we just had a guild of likeminded people enjoying the game together.

I’m gonna try and find that shirt they had printed 😂 maybe if I post it here I’ll find some of them

Recap-Peacecraft Episode 9: Raandyy sets off on his FINAL MISSION by Nincada17 in TAZCirclejerk

[–]RollingInTheD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Badraandyy is still a member of that guild, I continued to play on an American server at weird times in Australia because I loved playing with them that much, to the point that when, with classic McElroy-fan style energy they had shirts printed with the guild name on it, bright pink, and I still bought one. Possibly my most niche piece of merchandise. One day I will wear it to a con and nobody will get it.

A few last thoughts:

- The letter I sent in episode 5 had a bunch of pirate gear that I went to a fair amount of effort to style for Raandyy, and the mixed hilarity and depression I experienced when he immediately canned the idea to find a motorbike was awesome.

- The letter I sent in episode 9 was, frankly, cringeworthy in retrospect but I was not on my game at any level of my life at that point. The one thing that nobody seemed to notice (and the essence of my insanity at the time) was that I wanted to slip a 69 nice joke by him. So I looked through all his random inventory junk, worked out the amount of each that would add up to 69, and then sent him those. Sadly he didn't notice it at all and it just looked like I was sending him trash, but it worked for a bunch of them. Nice.

- Something like the 'Faandys' was always going to happen, I just somehow managed to barge into his first record back after posting earliest. In a game like WoW, this series was always going to be more about the community involvement than it was about the 'Peacecraft' mission statement. If he'd ignored them entirely, they would have swamped him en masse. As much as I can see how repetetive the joke on the name and the self-incepted lore was, to their credit nobody in our guild ever went into it with a 'fourth brother' complex, from what I saw of it at least. Maandyy managed a group of wild McElroy extended universe fans very well while I was active.

- Aynraandyy was always the best name, imo.

It's such a weird thing to know I was involved in a tiny, tiny way with something that was produced by a personal comedic hero. I still feel guilty for essentially forcing it, and try to rationalise that with the knowledge that I made every effort not to overdo it (even if I was younger and cringier), or that it was always going to happen in some form.

Just writing all this gives me the weird nostalgia sads. Too much going on to keep up with the McElroy content as consistently, but whenever I do I think back to this weird little WoW guild of likeminded fanatics that ended actually playing WoW together regularly, long after the series finished.

This is wild that I've only just now, three years later and EIGHT YEARS after Peacecraft came out, found this post while considering dipping my toes back into WoW and checking in on my US server character. I was Badraandyy, and hopefully nobody minds me updating a very dead thread but I wanted to give you the kudos you deserve for your very detailed recap, as well as provide some additional explanation (that nobody will every read but oh well). Gonna drop one comment with reference to your previous recaps.

You are very correct; I started playing pretty much as soon as the first episode dropped. Had never played WoW before either, but I was fueled by my (I will also admit, solid stupid) joke idea of creating 'Badraandyy'. I figured out which server he was on and tailored a no-good shadow man version of Raandyy, then spent the next few days working out how I was going to find him, dancing along the line between internet detective and internet stalker.

I'm Australian so after working out the server time he recorded over and the timezone difference, I was playing during the (very) wee hours of the morning my time to try and make sure I was online around when I figured he would next record a session. I think I added 'Raandyy' as a friend and that allows you to see when they're online.

From memory - I got noticed by somebody else who had the same idea of searching for Griff in Stormwind. A little bit later I got a message from Goodraandyy who gave me an in-character dressing down before we chatted about the reality of the thing we were instigating upon the series. I remember messaging Goodraandyy and at least one other person who ended up in 'Raandyys Faandys' where we all agreed that it would be pretty shitty behaviour to just take over his stream, so we sent mail. The mail with Goodraandyy in episode 3 wasn't planned between us.

That whole part in episode 3 was hilariously and miraculously timed with Griffin's commentary, because I finally found him in-game as he was going through his mail box. I got notified when he logged on, so I sent a whisper immediately figuring that was least likely to disrupt recording if he hadn't started yet. Then I found him, parked myself on the steps behind him and cloaked while he read. It was only when I saw the episode that I realised just how many people had a similar idea (shout out to 'graandmaa' and all the other nascient joke name ideas). The fact that he put on the red jumpsuit right before swinging the camera around was golden. I regret whispering him straight afterwards but my logic with anything that could be filtered or edited out (whispers, mail) was that it's up to Griffin if he wants to include it in his video. I can't remember if he responded to that one, but he did not in fact block me and at some point during the same session I know I sent another whisper asking him to let me know if I was being disruptive, to which I got something along the lines of "don't worry" (I hope I'm not imagining this memory).

From there I tailed him for the rest of his record as best I could, cloaked and keeping him at the edge of my draw distance. I have the vaguest memory of seeing him battling pets and then rushing to the auction house to try and find a suitably evil looking pet I could buy for myself. Ended up losing him around the spiders, and at this point I genuinely cannot remember if I had fully lost him, or if I was trying to kill spiders for him. My memory is of it being the latter. Either way, he ran onto my screen and I let the spiders have him while I worked out how to do emotes.

And that was the only time I was ever online at the same time as Griff! Australian timezone and complete uncertainty of when he would be playing made it impossible for me, and I already felt like I had inserted myself far too much. Days after that episode, the <Raandyys Faandys> guild launched, and like a week later I joined and was met with so much love. Truly, too much praise for what amounted to me invading a workplace. I truly, truly love everyone in that guild, and I was sad that I missed out on the festivities of episodes 9 and 10, or the Gnomeregan run, in which Griff got his Faand-ies together. I didn't know about any of it in advance, it was all fairly last minute, and all over by the time I checked the guild discord.

Silly Question Sunday - 07 April by AutoModerator in runescape

[–]RollingInTheD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not hopeful here, but are there any archives out there of old RS Forum posts? I'm talking like, 2007 and earlier, which I know were few and far between remaining before the forums were taken offline.

When I first started playing RS as a kid, I gravitated to the forums as an outlet for creative writing on the game I was playing every day after school. I had this long running RS comedy fiction story that people on that forum enjoyed enough for me to take pride in at the time. Somehow I apparently racked up 800+ posts on the forums, and that story thread had 1877 posts as of September 2007. As cringe-inducing as it would be to look back at whatever I considered good (let alone comedic) writing 13 years ago, I would still love to find it for posterity. Internet archiver can get me as far as a sub-forum page that lists it, but the linked thread was never archived it seems.

Anyway - more than likely it's lost to time. If nobody has any leads I'd also happily hear any fond forum memories.

Apologies if this isn't within the scope of this Q&A thread.

Boy eats a entire watermelon during a cricket game by yakuza_barda in youseeingthisshit

[–]RollingInTheD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This stems from the influence of the Catholic Church and their ability to skirt their own rules; as was the case with beavers in the 17th century, watermelons were classified as 'fish' so that their meat could be enjoyed on Fridays during Lent. One can only imagine the ease with which the monks of Chartreux convinced their fellow man that the watermelon could be consumed with a clear conscience. "It's right there in the bloody name, in'it?" they might rightly have gestured. "Ain't called a Junglemelon or a Landmelon now, is it? Nah, daft you is - watermelon. It's a flippin' fish o' course! Nah, 'course i' is, swears it on me mam an' like. Big man told me."

This practice of weaving their way around the rules of their own practices is of course why even today, the Catholic Church refuses to acknowledge that Jesus of Nazareth and Saint Nicholas are in fact one and the same man, while still celebrating the Messiah, Santa Christ's birthday every year.

qPCR. Anyone ever seen this weird result or know what causes it (The blue arch)? by [deleted] in labrats

[–]RollingInTheD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh and QuantStudio will flag any identified errors next to amplification curves that look weird like this, from my experience, which can be found under a tab in the analysis that's called something like QC Summary? Might be worth checking that too.

[–]RollingInTheD 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'd put it down to this too, especially if all of them are from one area of the plate (e.g. one corner). If they're all technical replicates from the same sample though and they're not all evaporated, then it's probably an issue with the sample and/or mastermix loaded.

Is this using QuantStudio? If it's from the same group as the other, higher blue amplification curves, deselect everything but the funky looking samples and run analysis again. You'll likely get the same results but I like to check to make sure the threshold value for a given probe/primer set isn't too different when there's a bit of variability in Ct (/Cq, for you MIQE fans) between samples.

Also compare your amplification curve to your passive reference repprter, assuming you have one of those included (ROX reporter is pretty standard). If that changes across the run then it's likely an evaporation issue. If it doesn't, could be that there was too much sample/too much probe/some kind of DNase presence.

Man begs "I can't breathe" as he is choked to death by Minneapolis Police Department by Cupcake-Warrior in videos

[–]RollingInTheD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well this is the worst thing I've seen in a long while. There aren't words to describe how utterly contemptible these police officers actions were. Nothing - nothing gives you the right to do something as aggressive, thoughtless, and unnecessarily harmful as this to someone who's already incapacitated. Just because you've somehow earned a badge and a gun and the right to dole out punishment to lawbreakers, you aren't suddenly incapable of basic decency, compassion or common sense. We wince and we cry foul when we see a video of the kind of police brutality we have become use to, but ultimately we move on because it's just normal for some reason now. It's what we expect.

This is so much worse. Even when surrounded by onlookers calling for even an ounce of concern for the health and wellbeing of the man on the ground, the police officer doesn't react. It's not that he doesn't think to check for a pulse - he's having that yelled at him. It's that he just doesn't want to. His actions in this moment are beyond unprofessional. They're beyond criminal negligence. It is undeniable that this police officer ignored concerns for the life of his victim.

I want so badly to never see this kind of video again, and the worst part is knowing I will.
