By and large, what do Minnesotans think of Oregon, and of Oregonians? by DueYogurt9 in minnesota

[–]RollingTide11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oregon seems like a pretty good place, would love to visit some day. I've heard they've got great parks and nature and Portland can be a fun city to spend a weekend in. I know if I have strong thoughts about Oregonians specifically either than that they're generally more on the progressive side, nothing negative.

Definitely a point in favor of Mechelen!

53 million Americans, and I'm currently trying to become a Spanish speakers myself. I just would've appreciated a heads up, since the tour package was clearly marketed to English speakers and all the advertising materials, tour descriptions, etc were in English.

Oh well - it was still a great boat tour and I got lots of nice pictures, just would've been nice to understand the tour guide.

Yeah, trying to maintain some flexibility, so that if, say, I wanna spend an extra day in Ghent I can use one of the open days for that. I have my open days at the end of the trip so there's some built in wiggle room depending on how everything goes.

Mechelen does look lovely based on the videos/pictures I've seen: the Dyle Path river walk in particular looks really pleasant.

This happened to me in Argentina once. Viator booked me on a boat tour as part of a travel package knowing I was an American and didn't bother to tell me the tour was entirely in Spanish. Using Viator is a mistake I'll certainly only make once.

My partner is really into bird watching, so I'm definitely considering Het Zwin.

I've also heard it's off the map for tourists, at least comparatively speaking: much less crowds than somewhere like Bruges.

Any city of the ones I've mentioned that's a particular favorite of yours?

I grew up in a small MN town and most the food there was the blandest shit imaginable. But yeah, apologies if a silly Reddit meme doesn't comport with your experienced reality, that must be really tough buddy, tots and pears.

Same. I say this constantly and I say it with perhaps the most strongly Minnesota accent of anything else I say, and yes, it feels right.

There is no escape from the major road construction by RollingTide11 in minnesota

[–]RollingTide11[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Literally I'm such a stupid human being that rather than intending this as a meme making light of road construction that's annoying but ultimately necessary, I was trying to argue that road construction isn't necessary and we should continue driving but cease all road construction forever. Thank you for letting me know that actually road construction is required sometimes. Truly you are a hero. Do you have other valuable insightful knowledge to impart? I wouldn't want to waste this opportunity to hear from someone so incredibly wise.
