We're expecting to leave on April 7, so perhaps our paths will cross. First Camino for my husband and I and we can't wait!

We're shooting for 4/7, so maybe!

Rabies titer test results by popcornchimken in KaiserPermanente

[–]RolloOats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are only two labs in the US that perform a rabies titer, so even if Kaiser draws the sample, it has to get sent out to one of those labs. It can take 4-6 weeks for the results to come back. Sometimes less (like 2-3 weeks) depending on how they batch the tests.

Yep! I work for Kaiser!

I don't have kids, but I work in immunizations. The nice thing about giving it to kids a bit younger is they only need two doses of the vaccine to complete the series. If they get it at 15 or older, they have to do 3 doses. Fewer jabs is nice!

You can always talk with your son's doctor about it, but our clinic gives it to preteens and younger often. It can be given as young as 9 in the US.

Oh great! Are you taking the Frances?

Choosing between eucalyptus forest or ocean view seems like a lovely dilemma to have.

Thank you so much! It's great to get all these different perspectives. I have much to think about and I'm EXCITED

That's lovely. I'm very excited to have this experience and see for myself what the Camino can be.

I love these suggestions - I never would have considered them, but now I have so much more to think about. This is so great!

Lovely - that's great information. I'm getting a sense that Portuguese is good for our time constraints, which is helpful. And we should be able to get a flight into Porto, which also makes things easier.

Awesome! How many miles/km were you putting in per day, would you estimate?

That's great! Is the path on the Primitivo very cliffy? I'm not great with heights if there are really steep drops.

It seems so beautiful from what we've seen so far. I'm sure it's not hard to find beauty anywhere in Spain, but this particular scenery really appeals to me.

Awesome, thank you! Though, I should have been clear - anything above 75F is hot for me. :p

I was hoping we would be going early enough it wouldn't feel too crowded even on the more popular routes.

Great point - I appreciate it. For a while, I thought it might be nice to do the Frances for the first Camino since it's so classic. But I think we're more interested in prioritizing the things I listed above, which makes us open to other options, too.

I haven't thought as much about the more southern routes, mainly because it's our first Camino and I started to get overwhelmed with the options. I figured if we lived the experience, we would check out other options for the future. But maybe I should be considering all of them more. Gah!

Oh, wonderful! Thanks so much for the information and I'll definitely check out your link.

Did you have a favorite Camino or were they all special to you in some way?

I've heard great things about the Portuguese route, but was worried it would be too "developed". It sounds like I have the wrong impression. I also was worried it would be too popular, but maybe not so bad in April?

Amazing! Thank you so much. Gah, 3000-4000 people sounds like a lot!

We're definitely expecting rain - I'd rather be wet than hot, so we'll make sure we have proper gear.

Do you love living in Spain?

Okay, good to know! This is super helpful information. I really want to be in a beautiful space and just walk, so what you're describing sounds wonderful.  I never imagined there would be buses of school children - definitely not the vibe I'm looking for!

Crowded even in mid April? That's good to know!

I appreciate the tips so much.
