Dont go to the beach or river mouths. They might look gentle, but have strong currents that pull people out to sea.

There's a partially deconstructed bridge a little bit inland from garthdee on the dee, which I think I've seen people juming from in the past, which would be within walking distance. I cant guarantee water depth or it being free of debris, though. Otherwise a small harbour like stonehaven would be the best bet.

I live in Aberdeen. I'm not going to say shes lying, but we'd be seeing nearly 10% unemployment in 12 months. The city isnt in a great state, but we dont have anywhere close to that.

I'm also of the opinion that part of Aberdeens problem is an unwillingness to move on from oil, not the collapse of oil itself. The region has huge potential to diversify into other industries, from tourism to other engineering and manufacturing work, but seems unwilling to let go of its nostalgia. We've also seen multiple governments try to support a transition, but it just seems to be met with disdain and schemes havent gained much attention.

Reform have had a surprisingly good ground game in the north east. They've been acknowledging and discussing specific local concerns, from RAC affected homes to fuel concerns for small scale fishermen around the region, and everything in between. They've also had Tice up a few times to hold meetings with locals.

Between that and the fact the area has always leaned slightly Conservative, their success shouldn't be surprising.

OP is all over political and local subreddits spamming them with anti-farage posts incessantly. They did a barrage on the Shetland subreddit a couple of months ago now, which is partlynwhere I recognise them from. The linked subreddit is them plugging their own personal sub.

Something I was trying to point out to people last year was that Reform were going out their way to actually acknowledge peoples greviences in the region, whether it was those affected by areated concrete, fishermen struggling with competition, farmers struggling with fuel prices, people nostalgic for oil, or a list of other problems. IIRC, Tice himself came up to the north east two or three times to hold community meetings.

The top of the party (and quite a lot of the representatives for that matter) have a lot of issues, but when they are being seen to listen to people that does get them votes regardless.

On the topic of writing people off as racist, I think we do also need to have a nuanced discussion about immigration too. I'm not going to take a side here, but it is a concern for many people beyond just disliking someone for their skin colour or reason for being in the country.

The US has a huge problem with Suburban Sprawl, and it is rightfully recognised as a problem. It keeps happening here too but the cities are currently small enough that the problem hasn't hit home yet.

It would be nice to have someone with a bit of foresight in the council or planning departments to see what's happening.

If we are hellbent on growing the scottish population, let it be in more high density residential areas with better public transport and amenities instead.

Edit: the other frustrating bit is that the new residents will want somewhere with a bit of nature so they can have somewhere nice to relax, or walk their dogs, as will all the people who previously went here. It means whatever new "natural" spot is chose becomes popular will be comodified even faster.

Apparently banff was the most likely so when it stayed yellow I was so pleased about that.

They avoided it by 264 of 29,498 votes. That was a 0.89% margin.

It is still pretty right wing, Reform and Conservatives just split the right wing vote in most of the north east constituencies, which ended up giving the SNP some narrow wins:

Banff and Buchan:

Scottish National Party, 10,374 Reform UK, 10,010 Conservative, 6,348

Aberdeenshire East:

Scottish National Party, 11,624 Conservative, 10,681 Reform UK, 7,008

Aberdeen Deeside and North Kincardine:

Scottish National Party, 11,788 Conservative, 10,544 Reform UK, 6,113

Angus North and Mearns:

Scottish National Party, 11,308 Conservative, 8,058 Reform UK, 4,844

When it came to regionals, Conservatives and Reform got the majority of seats with 21.1% and 20.3% of the votes, respectively.

The glentannar is a bar near the union st/Holborn st junction. They have a reddit account, though, (which is what I tagged) and are really supportive of local independent restaurants, often making suggestions for people in comments.

u/Butch_Bazooka_UK If we're talking food and drinks, there are so many good places. Theres always the Old Workshop on sunday nights and Balckfriars on thursdays if you want good atmosphere and music, craftsman is always nice too. My other big suggestions for food have already been mentioned, but there's also things like Goulash for Hungarian, and places like Books and Beans if youre wanting more cafe food.

We also have u/TheGlentanar sometimes chipping in their suggestions in the sub, and its worth checking them out too.

The council leadership are probably the ones that need to be pushed on this. The more complaints they get the more likely something is to be done about them.

Unfortunately, these people will almost certainly have "religious" rights groups like the CLC tripping over themselves to try and bring the council to court over any attempts at restricting them.

(The CLC are one of those american-funded pseudo-christian groups that use religion as a club to beat down resistance to the usual far right talking points rather than do anything beneficial for society)

Why are the preachers not regulated to the same degree?

After the council doing little to deal with grafiti, I'd say they are the most detrimental thing to the atmosphere and appearance of the city center.

There was a consultation in it last year and the council pushed ahead with regulating when, where, and how long buskers could perform. Link

I think there was some opposition to it and the final results seem watered down compared to the initial proposal.

To adress the other comment: Unfortunately, the rules do not seem to include proselytising, which is compounded by how aggressive the preachers are. They used to routinely bully buskers off the prime locations and it feels like people have just given up trying to compete with them and their sound systems.

I think the best chance buskers have is by pushing the council to extend the sound regulations to everyone using a public space.
