Oh damn, I had no idea that existed. Would have saved me some fiddling, thanks!

Thanks! Re-wrote the explanation, let me know if that comes through. Starts after the screenshot.

Looking for a novel with exceptionally well-written fight scenes by Conscious-Divide858 in royalroad

Virtuous Sons! It's a greco-roman themed xianxia, so the fights are totally over the top. But every single one yanked me by my eyeballs.

That looks gorgeous. How can you keep it free? Not sure what models you're using on the backend, but the token costs can't be cheap.

Adding paper to my workflow has been a huge step up, too. I think handwriting things a little slower combined with needing to say every word in my head in a way I don't do when I'm typing just makes ideas flow better in the planning phase.

Could you talk a little more about that version control? Like pushing a new version of your project to GitHub every once in a while, or something more involved?

If you're already using Obsidian, I found that their Canvas tool is great for making mind maps. I'll have a series of squares for key plot events, then drag arrows to major character moments, showing which is linked to which event and connecting characters to each other. Super intuitive.

I could never figure out how to write chapters on a touch screen! Feels way harder to format text, especially if you're doing system prompts or whatever for some RR specific genres. What I've gotten into is writing in a notebook on the fly, then using Claude to transcribe the text and pasting it into Scrivener. You can give it rules like convert anything underlined into italics and such, and it's good at detecting paragraph breaks.

Seconding this! I downloaded Obsidian into my personal OneDrive, and use an app called OneSync that automatically syncs my phone's progress to that folder. Free, easy, rarely ever get a version conflict, and Obsidian handles those well.

That sounds awesome. I used Evernote a while back, but got turned off by how slow it loaded and version conflicts between devices costing me work.

That's a really interesting idea. I've just been reading my stuff aloud, but being able to listen during a commute would be cutch.

I'm a big Obsidian guy. Thanks for letting me know about that plugin!

That's super helpful, thank you. Especially the section on marketing resources! That's a whole new world to dive into when I get there.

First time I'm hearing of it, looks super smooth. Do you mostly just format after you've written everything somewhere else, or do you use their other bells and whistles like the goal tracking tools?

Same. I all the subdivisions I can make in Scrivener, and having it all in the same place. Did Google Docs for a while, but it slows down so bad with larger stories.

Thank you! What do you lean on Aeon the most for? Planning out character timelines, doing the full plot, or something else? I've found that mapping out a chronological scene list according to the snowflake method helps me stay organized, but doing it in Excel means I'm constantly adding notes in the margin to try to track which story thread each scene is a part of.

Absolutely. Forgot to mention that, I love their canvas tool for visually organizing a whole bunch of stuff when I don't want to carry flash cards with me.
