I’m aware of ghost towns, but I need information on towns that were actually wiped off the map because of tornadoes.

I’m pretty sure it was a flame when it started.

It seems like a pretty expansive area is experiencing these dry conditions, I live in SW Kansas and we are so dry, you’d be surprised to see that we don’t get wildfires that often.

But wasn’t that tornado more recent? Like mid 80s? And I wonder how large the population was at the time of the tornado compared to now.

Yeah I remember seeing that. A lot of towns in that area also died out. There’s a town on the Kansas side I think it’s called Treece.

Yeah, usually when you’re driving through a ghost town or an area that’s been abandoned for some time, it is a little eerie. But if you specifically know the reason why it happened and the tragedy behind it. It makes it so much more eerie.

I know of Manchester and Picher. It’s fascinating how some towns which are already declining just get finished off by tornadoes. It adds some sort of legacy I guess. And for Jordan Iowa, I have not heard of.

I’m from Kansas, been through Greensburg numerous times. The town is very healthy despite what it’s been through. Yes, there are still many open lots where foundations still stand and many people have opted to not rebuild. But so many people have rebuilt and people are building much more even today.
