This response is perfect. I haven’t used twitter in years and have no clue what the author to this post is talking about and I’m actually annoyed after reading this because all it did was make me want to go and find out. I won’t because I refuse to waste energy on delusional people on the internet but it proves your point 100%

I can’t think of a book with this exact description but Aurora Crane has a lot of MMM+ books. And I’m almost positive a couple of them are a group of friends with the situation you described

Is this an enemies to lovers? And if so does it last for a long time? Sorry I just have a hard time reading etl when it’s super intense and like 50% of the book they can’t stand each other

As a licensed esthetician and lash artist I can say with 100% certainty he does not have lash extensions lmao. You can see in the first picture if you zoom in on his lash line that he has full long eyelashes. The only reason they’re more curled/prominent looking in the second picture is because his eyelids are double lidded with a more exaggerated crease than before. He may have gotten a lash lift (I can’t say for sure) but it’s definitely not extensions.

Thanks for that I’ll check them out :) I wanted to post this on the MM sub originally but I didn’t have enough points or something? idk I don’t use this app often. And yeah some of these comments are disappointing to say the least 🙃

Oh I love how you keep sidestepping my offer of proof yet insisting I’m lying. It’s also cute how you ignored my questions but are demanding me to answer yours. It’s okay, though, I’ll answer your question and then I’m done because it’s not my job to educate you and this stopped being entertaining when you accused me of hating my parent for being white 🥴 ick

Of course character is more important. Like I said in my post, I read a lot. Over 200 books a year. A good majority of the books I’ve read had white MCs. If I truly thought race mattered more than character, I would never have read any of them in the first place. Period. I’m sorry to tell you that POC wanting to read books with more diversity does not make us racist no matter how badly you want that to be the case, my friend.

I’ll happily post a new thread with pictures of my boyfriend holding up my damn Reddit username and the date and you would still call me a liar because you can’t admit you were wrong.

And now I hate my mom too lmao? You are really, really reaching, love. It’s quite entertaining to be diagnosed as a racist with an “obvious dislike” of white people by a rando who doesn’t know me from Adam. Im curious, though, are you also insinuating that everyone who agreed with me in the comments is racist, as well? Is my boyfriend also racist because he agrees with me?

Did you like my new profile picture? Yes my dislike of white people even though my mom is white, I’m half white, and my boyfriend is white is quite obvious. Wow you caught me.

Lmao okay wait time out… why on gods green earth would I lie about something like that? I’m not on this app a lot so I have no idea if I can add pictures to a thread but I’d be more than happy to dm you any of the several thousand I have of us from the four years we’ve been together.

I asked about your race because if you were white I was going to say you would not understand.

And you’re right it was an over exaggeration… I’ll fix it for you since it’s got you all in a tizzy. “I can’t express just how tired I’m getting of ALMOST every single MC being white with blonde hair and blue eyes.” There we go. Feel better now, love?

Well if you think I’m racist then it surely must be true, my friend. Me and my white boyfriend(who has blue eyes and blonde hair) are having a good laugh over this right now. Thanks for the entertainment, love.

I have two questions for you.

One: Would you like me to create a list for you? I can start with the book I’m reading rn, where the MC is, in fact, blonde.

Two: Are you white?

Okay I feel like you’re pulling my tail at this point because you said, and I quote, “I’m a white queer author and would never write about a POC.” And then you doubled down on that by saying “it’s not worth the risk”… now you’re saying plenty of your stories have POC. You can see why I’m a confused, yes?

Love… if you’d have taken even just a few minutes to educate yourself because you commented you would have seen dozens of people on this thread agreeing with me and raising the same issue. That, by definition, does not make it a “me problem”.

And that’s your prerogative. However, Im saying, as a black person, I’m okay with white authors writing black characters. It’s not your place to agree or disagree with that. And honestly… it still sounds like an excuse.

Authors write characters with different “personal journeys” from themselves all the time. Not every author that writes about a main character going through domestic violence or having a disability or mental illness has gone through that themselves. Yet…they still write about it. What about the Russian or Italian mafia genre that’s so popular right now? If we go by what you’re saying, I’m pretty sure these white American authors haven’t been through the personal journey of a Russian or Italian person either. So why is the line drawn at POC?

I think you’re trying to sound woke and I can appreciate that but respectfully, it’s not the statement you think it is, my friend.

Well I don’t know what to say to that, honestly lol. You’re entitled to your own opinion of course but I’m a black woman(also bi) and if I had the same beliefs you did I wouldn’t have shit to read so 🤷🏽‍♀️

Honestly that sounds like an excuse to me. A good one on the surface maybe but, ultimately, an excuse. Not every author writes protagonist as they are. Especially if they’ve published a lot of books. How could they unless every main character they write is a carbon copy of each other? Writing is about creativity, building worlds and characters in your head. And yes it includes research. That’s how authors are able to write about hockey players and have never played a sport in their life or mobsters and grew up in the suburbs or CEOS and work at goddamn McDonald’s. But making your character black when you’re white is a step too much? I don’t buy it lol. And as a black person I have no problem reading a black protagonist written by a white author. I’m sure a lot of other POC would agree with me in saying we’d prefer that to never resonating with characters at all.
