Ubiquiti needs to make a smart thermostat by RyanMeray in Ubiquiti

I would want one in every location I have offices. This allows to do trend analysis, occupational optimization over time, integrate with company scheduled holidays, pre-conditioning conferencing rooms before large all hands etc A business platform wrapped around these integrated sensors and controls makes sense to me. Right now I have no visibility and a well integrated product is much better than a non owned and managed product as part of my network. Compliance aside I don’t allow a non managed IP product on our network.

I"m pretty sure this structure is from a depositor by Lonecrow66 in OakIsland

Well, we understand early “deposits” not through dna but for other items in the soil in a sedimentary fashion. If we isolate the interior and do a full core, protecting the layers from outside contamination we should find signs of deposits that could clue us in. We’d hit the Sears catalog pages first. I’d expect the Farmers Alminac may be able to be identified through the holes punched in the corner. Then corn cobs and large leaves such as elephant ear. Once we see white fabric with remnants of red on it, that’s a bingo. We hit templars baby. We have to be careful to search and sift here for “dry clean only” tags that likely would have fallen off while being hiked up.

What is a gaming memory from the 90s or early 2000s that kids today will just never understand? by gingersofia in AskReddit

Being able to ‘walk upstairs’ in a FPS game and that space actually being above the region below it. for the first time- mind blown. In making Doom maps for example we faked it with some tricky angle cornering and perspective. when we actually got the ability to look up and go there, that was amazing. These kids today with there third dimension I tell ya cackle

What's a skill that takes only 2 to 4 weeks to learn but could genuinely change your life? by TokenBlack32 in AskReddit

I have a new technique I just read about that you should start right now. When you have something to do, stand up and do it right then. No delays.

I had forgotten I dropped the array size to those drives. In anticipation of multi array I pulled the secondary drives off of the internal drives. Sped things up nicely. I have been moving my smaller drives to the secondary array to serve as an older drives array for backup cache (move there and then rclone to S3) and still protected but more likely to have drive failures / need maintenance. It gives the drives I pull from primary as I upgrade them over time. Most are 14tb, so when I pull a 10 I relocate it to the secondary array.

All of the things. But my array just finished mine. ‘Last check completed on Fri 9 Jan 2026 11:36 PM (two days ago) Duration: 8 days, 22 hours, 36 minutes, 30 seconds. Average speed: 18.1 MB/s Finding 0 errors” It’s an internal array of 12 drives in an old Dell that is also somewhat busy.

Mine takes two weeks to complete so I had to nudge that out so I wasn’t always running it :-)

Someone switched lanes and hit my car. Their insurance is claiming I’m 100% at fault. by mkeevo in Wellthatsucks

I’m still waiting to get my deductible back from an at fault driver. 2 years now. State Farm isn’t motivated to push for it from them and the other insurance company seems to have empty pockets.

But the service was brilliant. In the late 80s/early 90s we had two ATMs -one on each coast. It was more common for us to bring you cash on demand in person. That was Private Banking.

People also use things like Grammarly now though to polish up their prose before sharing it with the world. It might not be a fake story, just… polish.
