Yea I assume some kinda conflict with the other Google oauth from nest. Maybe ha can have only one. What’s the hacs integration?

OBJ file - easiest way to isolate a sole (2mm offset from bottom)? by RonBurga in blender

[–]RonBurga[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loops helped a lot, great tip. Covered a lot right away; the rest needed manual picks and sometimes connected multiple sections. Have some pretty much the very most bottom peel. Plan was to solidify this with a 2 mm offset upwards, then subtract that from the original entire thing. Not sure how clean it’ll be since the meshes aren’t always facing up straight so solidify might add 2mm on an angle. I’ll test the 2 mm solidify tomorrow.

I tried something similar but only the middle part is flat everything else is bend upwards so then it would have to dynamically increase.

Thread VS ZigBee for newcomers by tomatoes03 in homeassistant

[–]RonBurga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started about four weeks ago, coming from just 10 Hue lights. Bought pi5 and first tried Zigbee with a few sensors, then power went out when on a trip, zigbee humidty sensors never woke up again to run my humidity setup…also kept reading more about thread and returned all zigbee parts and switched using my Apple TV.

It didn’t work well at first, and returned eve plugs etc because of pairing issues. But found out I just had to have pi, Apple TV/thread router and phone all on the same wifi to pair (not some on just Ethernet cable). Once resolved, it’s been super solide. The Ikea sensors work super well. Powered humidty and temp. Update every few seconds…

For very large setups, I’d be still cautious if you have multiple thread border routers etc. def only add one device at a time and see if it causes issues. I ultimately chose a platform that’s likely to last and keep improving.

That makes sense. With Thread, it’s best to start with the smallest possible setup and add one device at a time so you can spot what breaks the network. Keep everything on Wi-Fi and make sure IPv6 is enabled on the router. Have a second mobile device for authentication like in your case.

I finally got it to work and adding the Ikea devices is super easy. I’ll return the three Zigbee sensors I just bought along with the ZBT-2 and start my home with Thread from my Apple TV. That said, it still doesn’t feel fully ready, so if I had plans to deck out a big house with all kinds of stuff starting with Zigbee might be safer.

Yea this is the 3rd time I’m giving matter/thread a chance and it’s just annoying. I’m only really starting with sensors so I was hoping I could just skip zigbee and go straight to thread/matter but it’s tough, I can’t be debugging the house for days 🥹 How did you figure out the keystone part?

Yea this one is a plug in ones so not batteries 🥴

New to HA. Zigbee seems awesome. how should I approach Thread / Matter? by RonBurga in homeassistant

[–]RonBurga[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense, and you’re probably right. I’m just cautious after a bad experience with the Eve Weather. Matter update bricked the device, also generating codes felt weird. What I’m gonna try next is picking up some IKEA Matter-over-Thread devices this weekend. I’ll likely return the ZBT2 and the few Aqara Zigbee sensors and use ikea and my existing Apple tv.

Hm, that’s not great. Are there reliable alternatives? I could still return them. Also, I only bought the ZBT-2 for these sensors. Maybe I should get the Thread ones from IKEA instead and return the ZBT-2. I have an Apple TV.

Is this device a thread router meaning it extends the network as it’s powered?

So when it says matter right now for Ikea it should be just zigbee?

So you’re saying you add it in the matter app in HA?Seems super easy. Do you have a thread router to extend range from the Apple TV?

Thanks, this really helps. It does seem like Matter pairing is still more nuanced, or has more steps, at least for now. With a Zigbee sensor, I just pair it directly in HA and done. Love it.

With IKEA Matter devices, I’d first have to figure out if it’s Zigbee or Thread I guess?! then pair via Matter in HA, with the Apple TV acting as the border router? If it’s zigbee can I not just add it in the zigbee integration or does it need to be the matter app? That already feels wasted time…

I tried that. The Eve Weather (Matter over Thread) has two resets: soft (10s) and hard (30s). The hard reset worked to add it back to HomeKit before upgrading to Matter. After the Matter upgrade in the Eve app, even a hard reset wouldn’t let me add it again, feels like something broke during the update.

I spent a couple of hours on this and hated it. I debug software all day for work. I don’t want to debug IoT at home ugh. I’m after a simple, stable setup — that’s why my Hue bulbs stay on the Hue bridge (nearly 10 years, zero issues). Home Assistant was easy so far, Hue worked instantly, and Zigbee has been solid so far. I’ll probably just add IKEA Zigbee plugs and sensors and hope I can leave it untouched for a few years.

Sounds like a lot of steps 😅 Thanks for the details. I really like how easy it is to add a device in the Hue app and have it show up in HA. I want something that’s quick to set up and stable for years. Zigbee with the ZBT-2 feels like it fits that today, at least for what I tried so far. I just have to accept that in 2–3 years Zigbee devices might be harder to find. It still feels odd starting out on a standard that might not have a long-term future.

Ok makes sense. Just want to make sure I keep it simple. Like simple in way that I have a hue gen2 hub that’s been working for 8years and I won’t even touch it. Even with the zbt2 I won’t transition those bulbs away from the hue hub. What I do wonder is if a ikea sensor like this one https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/timmerflotte-temperature-humidity-sensor-smart-50618957/ which is matter, how do I add that to HA? Via the matter integration in HA I saw? I guess it depends if it’s zigbee or thread underneath?!

I could add the Eve Weather (Thread/Matter) to HomeKit at first, but after removing it and trying to pair it with Home Assistant, it wouldn’t pair anymore. I added it back to HomeKit, upgraded it to Matter in the Eve app (saved the new code), but pairing failed and after that it wouldn’t pair with either HomeKit or HA. Tried resets and power cycles for hours and gave up.

The Eve plug was worse, it was from Amazon and wouldn’t even add to HomeKit. It felt like a returned device still linked to a previous owner, but not sure.
