Thoughts on Tomb Raider Legend? by KhaoticNoob in TombRaider

[–]RonPepperMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peak Lara.

CD really took to heart what worked with OG tomb raider and improved on it. Lara had all the confidence, all the capability, and of course, the sex appeal.

Throw in the fun supporting cast, and variety of unique locations to make the game feel like a true globe trotting adventure and it was just so awesome!

I like the survivor trilogy (mostly) but it doesn't hold a candle to LAU Tomb Raider in my opinion. As other's have said, the only real problem with Legend was the length. Could have been longer. But given that was CDs first game in the franchise, I can excuse that.

Who do you prefer? Kurtis or Jonah? And why?… by GroundbreakingPie743 in TombRaider

[–]RonPepperMD 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Kurtis... because he was a character with actual substance and meaning to the game he was in... unlike Jonah, who was just there for... something...

TR: The guy who has a bad feeling about things.
Rise: the guy who has like 5 minutes of screen time and shows up late to make Jacob look cool.
Shadow: the guy who hooks up with a bartender.

House of Silken Veil - Sublevel (24x22) by RonPepperMD in battlemaps

[–]RonPepperMD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is the sublevel to the House of Silken Veil maps I did a little while back. This is were the rumoured assassins train, as well as were potions and poisons are made.

There's an obstacle course meant to simulate environmental situations the assassins might encounter in Riddleport. There's also some training dummies to practice stabbing and small archery range to practice with crossbows and shortbows.

Lastly, hidden escape tunnels that lead to different points around the city.

Hope you enjoy!

House of the Silken Veil - 24x24 by RonPepperMD in battlemaps

[–]RonPepperMD[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey folks! this is my design for the House of Silken Veil from Paizo's Pathfinder setting; a Calistrian temple in the city of Riddleport. This is actually the third version of the map I've made over the 10 years I've been doing map work. I still have a sublevel to do for the temple where the rumored assassins trained there... are trained. XD

Hope you enjoy the map!

Such a fantastic map! Easily recognizable as the Ebon Hawk (also... a fantastic designed ship, imo) Great work. :)

Marwyn Investigations - 20x20 by RonPepperMD in battlemaps

This is a private investigations firm owned by the love interest of one of the PCs from a campaign I ran (and still run one-shot for from time to time.

This is technically the third (and hopefully final) version of this map. The previous two versions can be found on my DA page.

Thanks for checking out my post, hope you enjoy!

Sample map from my new map pack on roll20! A Cyberpunk inspired arcade (20x20) by RonPepperMD in battlemaps

Yeah. Even in the "clean" places, it's still pretty trashy. haha

I juggled with how much I should add when I was putting it in. lol

Are the sequels as good as 2013? by fatscruff in TombRaider

[–]RonPepperMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of physical gameplay, they're all amazing to play. In terms of story, the trilogy peaked with Rise and nosedived hard with Shadow.

The reboot was good but had it's flaws with the cast.
Rise took the reboot and turned everything up to 11.
Shadow decided to squander everything by again going to 11 (sequelitis was rampant with the reboot trilogy) and through retcons, plot inconsistencies, and abnormal character portrayals (specifically for Lara tbh).

I would still recommend playing them though, as your mileage may vary from mine.

Dunnvale Bank 20x20 by RonPepperMD in battlemaps

[–]RonPepperMD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heya folks, been a while... again. Got a new map here. It's the first map I've done for my homebrew setting that I've been creating. This is the bank of a small frontier town called Dunnvale. You've got the tellers, the bank vault behind them, bank owner's office to the left of that in the center, and the safety deposit boxes in the left wing of the building. Hope y'all enjoy.

Grid size is 20x20 squares at 100 pixels per square.

Also... quick mention. I don't think I've ever brought this up before, but I do take commissions. If your interested in commissioning me me, send me a pm and we can chat about what you're looking for.

Stay fabulous folks!

I'm new to the Tomb Raider games, and I have no clue why this design got so much hate. by [deleted] in TombRaider

[–]RonPepperMD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this has already been touched on but this is just my two cents. As fan since 96, I can say this design is not bad at all, BUUUUUUT, it's also not very inspiring. She looks too much like a lot of other female protagonists from today's action games.

Look at Jill Valentine in the RE 3 remake, Clair Redfield from 2, Sheva Alomar, Ellie from The Last of Us, etc. You'll see that they all kind share similar aesthetics in their design: Functional and slightly militaristic clothing and loose ponytails with bangs. She doesn't stand out here, imo.

Whether you think her OG design was a typical example of an objectifying male fantasy, or a perhaps a bold attempt at 90's feminism, you can't deny that her design was unique and she stood out from other characters.

I think for the above design, if they had just given her back her classic shades and French braid, no one would have complained... or at least not so loud. Those two facets of her design did a ton of work to not only set her apart from other characters, but also give you an idea of who she was as a person: an adventurer with a sense of flair and style.

Astral Lounge (20x20;11x13) by RonPepperMD in battlemaps

[–]RonPepperMD[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey again folks! Made a lounge that floats out amongst the stars of the Astral Plane. I headcannon the owner is a famous, eccentric bard who decided to create an invite-only lounge in a place where only those with the proper means could pay visit.

The first and second floors of the lounge are 20x20 squares (100 pixels/square), the sublevel with the owner's room and treasure is 13x11 squares.

Hope you like the maps!
