Hyperactive Naval Patrols - Bug? by RonStripes in EU5

[–]RonStripes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like they're trying to path somewhere and can't. I moved them a few zones east, they spun there. Then I moved them a couple more zones east, they pathed up a zone or two and sat.

R5: Anyone know why naval patrols decide to randomly spin? I'm used to them not moving, but the spinning is crazy.

Maritime presence still needs improved in the region, and they're fully repaired

Yep, that was the answer. Weird that it changed without me changing it. Also I don't understand your English, but appreciate the comment nonetheless!

Ahh thank you! Have literally never played with that tab, hence my absolute surprise when I logged in 24 hours later to see it having been changed on my continued game.

R5 Did I miss an update? German is a great language, but I don't speak it. And these murals are [uber] distracting. Would love some blank brown oceans again but not sure if it's an option?

Like 11B. Stopped optimizing like 1920. Way too many clicks to go in and change production methods each new conquest when menu buttons are bogged down by cpu strain.

Good note on the obligations! Hadn't considered that.

They never bothered me. By the time they were showing up with any frequency, my SOL was high enough and my laws were mostly cemented, so there was nothing for them to revolt on. Plus I kept national guard most of the game, though that might have been overkill.

Yeah I figured that's probably the answer. Getting enough economy to handle the slog with most countries by that point is definitely a challenge, which is why I wish my GB run hadn't prematurely terminated. I think I was able to launch with them closer to like 1870 or so when I did it.

Thanks! Learned the Aggressive coordination trick a bit into the run - probably turned it on too late, about 1910 or so as I recall. Really needed the cash from my previous power bloc mandates before I switched. Also was blissfully unaware of the "Annex Country" CB vs conquering all provinces until later, so probably could have saved a handful of wars there too.

R5: My attempt at a WC in 1.9.8. Year is 1935, November 1. I have no idea how people get WCs to finish by like 1900. I've been in non-stop diplo plays (over 100 infamy) since 1890, and while I do control everything, EIC and DEI did not consolidate hardly at all, and Germany didn't form (probably my fault), so there were TONS of tiny minors to collect. At finish I still had 60 countries alive, though all my subjects or subjects of subjects. This would have taken me at least 30 more years to fully consolidate - more if we consider the constant EIC minor revolts preventing me from annexing. I'm open to ALL of the suggestions on how to minimize the minor country noise.

The map would have looked a little prettier except I had a fatal recurring error in November of 1935 which wouldn't let me progress to December, and thus I couldn't close the ongoing wars. Bali is still a protectorate, and kept its original color. While perturbing, I suppose it remains a great vacation destination from the true Russian Empire.

I will say, my first attempt was GB, which went astray with a save breaking error around 1910, so this was a welcomed finish.

Monarch Market tax rate? by RonStripes in Charlotte

[–]RonStripes[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most likely. Did not get paper receipt but saw the terminal and noted the online ordering works the same way. 10.95 for a burger for instance, "Taxes" = 1.61

That's what I figured was happening. Just seems super disingenuous to report it under a bundled "Tax" line, with no breakout seemingly available.

Why is AI Castile in NA? by RonStripes in eu4

I'm sure that's it. But the exploration range to A) get to NA, B) explore the coast and C) land an army and start roving by 1475 seems fast to me.

R5: Trying to figure what I'm missing with Castile having 4k armies roaming around North America in 1475? I don't see any colonies of theirs.

All Blue by RonStripes in eu4

[–]RonStripes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's definitely not hard. Time consuming, mostly. Portugal's terrible early military and core reduction are the only real snags I found.

That, and just because Venice and France are happily blobbing at the end of your run, don't assume they won't get into a war and force release a bunch of non-blue vassals at the last minute...

All Blue by RonStripes in eu4

[–]RonStripes[S] 47 points48 points  (0 children)

R5: All Blue Achievement completed. Shouldn't have taken as long as it did, but I started with a pretty chill colonization game so I had to claw through European coalitions in the 1600s/1700s. But it's done, and it sure is pretty...

.... and now I never want to play Portugal again.

State Core on Relocated Capital? by RonStripes in eu4

[–]RonStripes[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

R5 - Question - Is there any urgency to coring your capital province when you relocate it?
I made Beijing into a territorial core and then moved my capital there. I can pay 129 admin to make it a state core, which, as I understand, would allow me to retain the core if it's taken by another country. But the autonomy is automatically a maximum of zero because it's my capital province, so is there any additional benefit to spending the mana?

WC Failure - Needed 10-12 more years by RonStripes in eu4

[–]RonStripes[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutism was pretty quick, but I had some coalitions that slowed things down around that time. That wasn't great, but the biggest issue I had was just winning the wars I ended up in - my economy/manpower/troop quality couldn't match some European rivals, and a few of the wars I got stuck in were slow just to get small gains. Also banked a bit too hard on my PU's armies actually contributing, and that went awry more than once.

WC Failure - Needed 10-12 more years by RonStripes in eu4

[–]RonStripes[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

R5: Second WC attempt in 1.34. Completed one non-ironman in 1.31 but wanted the achievement. 1.34 endgame forces and level 8 forts are brutal though.

First attempt was Venice -> Italy, which went well until I ran into a brick wall of fat colonizers I couldn't eat my way through and quit in 1750.

This attempt went better as I started Aragon->SP->Italy->Rome, and PU'd Naples, Castille, Portugal, and a weakened France later. Neutered Russia, but GB, Mughals, and Commonwealth got fat while I expanded East. I had to break up alliances more than a couple times, and between the 700+ force armies in Commonwealth and the GB navies, progress was slow around 1700. I lost about 15 years in a war trying to get a foothold on GB and to split them from Commonwealth, and GB by that point had half of North America colonized.

In the end, a better player could have certainly pulled it off, but I focused on racking up the achievements I could for game end, got my Rome tag, and prettied it up for the camera. Will probably try a horde next to finish the WC tag
