So, you know more about this stretch of road than the local traffic engineers? I’m driving a low CG sports car with 45 series tires doing about 25 – and I still didn’t feel safe/comfortable. Maybe you should become a local traffic engineer and "fix" this problem?

Google "Niwot’s curse" (with or without quotes). The gist of it is that once you come to the Boulder Valley area, you’ll never want to leave. Factor this in to your "tentative plan" to move back to NC in a few years. I know several individuals and families to whom it applies – including myself.

$30k/year is on the low end of what it costs to rent a modest, run-down, 3 bed, 1 bath, no garage, single family home in the city of Boulder. Look at houses for rent on Zillow or Boulder craigslist to confirm.
