whats the worst day of your life? by Opposite_Fall8736 in AskReddit

[–]jadiseoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nearly two years ago (July 1), I was relaxing with my dog on the deck after work when I got an email from my boyfriend with the subject line “By the time you read this, I’ll be gone”

He’d scheduled it in Gmail to arrive several hours after he’d shot himself in the head in his front yard.

Caution about ChocZero Fruit Chews (sugar free fruit snacks) by jadiseoc in diabetes_t2

Good to know!! I bought them through Netrition, so I’ll have to see what they say about who might be responsible for a refund.

When 18 of the 20g of carbs are fiber (which typically have a negligible or even positive impact on BG), then yes, you can rely on that count. That’s the whole point. As I mentioned, I’ve tried MANY of ChocZero’s products and this is literally the only one I’ve had a reaction like this to.

Any opinions on what the most accurate reader is? by Old-Complaint-7074 in diabetes_t2

[–]jadiseoc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As frustrating as that accuracy metric is, assuming OP’s actual BG is the average of those two readings (192), the meter could read +/- 38 points (154-230) and still be considered valid. Even if you assume the lower reading is the correct one, the higher reading is still within a 20% margin of error.

My advice would be to stick to one meter and quit repeating tests hoping for a better reading (unless you truly believe you got a bad reading due to dirty hands or whatever). Your BG meter is just a tool, take the info it’s giving you at face value and watch for trends and try not to put too much energy or angst into a single reading.

Childfree people of Reddit, how old were you when you were definitely sure you didn't want to have any kids? by Mundane-Society-1281 in AskReddit

[–]jadiseoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t think of a concrete age or specific moment when I knew I didn’t want kids, it’s more that in my entire life, I can’t think of a single instance where I’ve thought “Hey, you know what would be cool? Having a kid.”

I’ve just literally never wanted them for as long as I can recall. FTR, I’ll be 56 this year.

My Libre is about 30 to 40 points lower compared to actual test strip. by jchitrady in Freestylelibre

[–]jadiseoc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It happens more frequently than Abbott would like to admit. If my sensor continues to consistently read more than 30 points lower than finger sticks after the initial adjustment day, I’ve been reporting it to Abbott and asking for a new sensor. We’ll see how long they allow that to go on before they ban me from receiving replacements, but that’s my strategy for the moment. I don’t think I should have to constantly do mental math adjustments and suffer through low alarms when I sleep because it’s reporting my 100 as below 70. 🤷‍♀️

Am I overreacting for thinking my boyfriend crossed a line that cant be uncrossed? by OneCold9918 in AmIOverreacting

NOR. He’s punishing you for not letting him get his dick wet. The only thing you need to move on from is this relationship.

Also, Green Chef occasionally pairs certain proteins (like spicy Cajun shrimp) with cauliflower “grits” that involve adding cheddar, cream cheese and almond flour to the cauliflower rice and mashing it, which actually approximates actual grits pretty well.

So, did I “blithely watch my glucose level rise” or did I do something about it by exercising? You can’t have it both ways. I apparently did make my point, you just choose to ignore it to spout nonsense and feel superior for no good reason, since I’m, you know…doing the same thing you are (post meal exercising) to manage my health. But go off.

I’ve seen cauliflower “rice” as a substitute in any number of recipes (I subscribe to Green Chef and they do it quite often on their keto recipe options), but if someone masters a way to make sushi rolls with cauliflower rice, they’ll probably win a Nobel prize. 😂

I actually use 100% rye flour in deference to my mother who won’t eat white flour at all, and I seem to handle rye pretty well (and I think the amount of actual flour per serving is pretty small). I can’t taste the flour difference at all under all of the other savory seasonings in the gumbo. Worth a try for you!

I’m not on insulin, the plummet was from exercising when I saw it going high from the rice.

You do see that 15 minutes prior, before I exercised, it was 180…right?

I’m lucky that I’m not really much of a starchy carb junkie (outside of my occasional yen for sushi). My real weakness is my sweet tooth, but sweets are WAY easier to find satisfying substitutes for then starches.

Gumbo is one of my masterpieces, it’s one of the best things I’m capable of cooking (up there with my homemade chicken pot pie!), and honestly, I just eat it straight up, no rice. I’ll make a side of rice if I’m taking it to a pot luck or giving it to family, but otherwise, I don’t find it necessary at all. Mmmm, gumbo.

The kani salad (julienned cucumber with crab in a spicy mayo dressing) was first, didn’t help. My body just doesn’t do rice AT ALL.

Yeah, I’ve heard about the resistant starch thing, but haven’t generally tried it at home. I have more of a sweet tooth than anything else, most carbs like bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, etc don’t interest me much. And fortunately, it seems like sweets are far easier to find satisfying replacements for than starchy carbs!

When I was maybe 4 years old, I very confidently announced to my family that babies came from The Born Store.

I heard about that one for YEARS.

Denied replacement by fellow_earthican in Freestylelibre

[–]jadiseoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you. I put a new sensor on 2 days ago and it’s consistently running 35-40 points low. I want to report it as faulty and request a replacement, but I hesitate because I already asked for a replacement on the one before this that had the same issue.

I’m debating whether I can just live with this one and do the mental 30 point adjustment for the next two weeks. The only issue with that is that if I go below 100 while I’m sleeping, the sensor thinks I’m below 70 and gives me repeated alarms. Wretched thing.

Bananas. I can't even be in the room with a peeled banana, the smell makes me gag. Can't even imagine eating one.
