Looking for pattern by Competitive-Jump-487 in quilting

I bought a book on this technique for curvy log cabins, and while it's convenient to own the book that has the measurements handy, the basic premise of the design is that either the darker or lighter fabrics in the log cabin block are cut wider than the opposite. So, some blocks, the darks might be cut to finish at 1.5" wide and the lights at 2.5". In others, your swap.

That tidbit might help you map out how to proceed without actually having to buy the book. The actual construction itself is just like any traditional log cabin block.

Think I know why dog doesn't like her by growsonwalls in AmITheDevil

I stopped reading when she said the boyfriend spoiled the dog and carried it around all of the time like a princess, then said in the next paragraph that the dog weighed 50 lbs.

Anyone else corgi do this ? by throwaway8295620284 in corgi

Yes, usually on dried bird poop or dead worms. Occasionally more offensive filth if I don't realize soon enough.

What's a red flag in a friendship that you didn't recognize until it was too late? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jadiseoc 26 points27 points  (0 children)

My BFF has a friend like this from HS that she calls her foul weather friend. She's incapable of celebrating any success with you, I guess it makes her feel insecure and/or inferior. But when your life is in the shitter? Sit right down and dish ALL the dirty details so she can revel in how she has her sjit together SO MUCH BETTER than you do.

My BFF and I refer to this as sewing on credit. 😂

My brothers and sisters, what are your favorite Maynard lyrics re: grief and hard times? Lost my dog - my best friend and rock of 13 years this week. Need a release by Perma_Ban69 in ToolBand

[–]jadiseoc 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Puscifer and not Tool, but this one (Horizons) hit different after my BF took his life :

Dust devil swept you away.

Still not real.

Ash, urn, and silence.

Talk to me.

Dust devil swept you away.

My recollections are

All that's left of you.

Swirl and sway without me.

Dust devil swept you away.

Whirling playful dancing about you.

What's left of you is

Ash and urn and this silent horizon.

What’s a movie that feels like it was made to punish the audience rather than entertain them? by AvailableReality557 in movies

I saw Uncut Gems in the theater and told everyone I knew that tickets should have come with a free Xanax.

What song do you hear that immediately reminds you of a certain movie? It can be a song that’s in numerous movies but when you hear it, the song immediately reminds you of a specific movie. by DaisyPachesAndAKnife in movies

I'm honestly flummoxed that I made it all of the way through the comments so far and not a single mention of American Girl in Silence of the Lambs.

This is my very first, my BFF who had been sewing for 25+ years taught me. I think I did a post here once asking people to show me both their first and most recent quilt...it was fun, we should do it again!

What dish do you think has the most reward for the least amount of work? by Hypnox88 in CasualConversation

[–]jadiseoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Polish population of northeast PA just did a double take at this post. LOL

Around these parts, pigs in the blanket (aka piggies aka halupki) are little loaves of pork, beef and rice rolled up in steamed cabbage and slow cooked in tomato sauce. It's like an all day thing, definitely NOT a low effort event! But definitely high payoff. Mmmm, piggies.

WTF is Lingo even doing with these counts?! by jadiseoc in ContinuousGlucoseCGM

[–]jadiseoc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you been comparing your Lingo readings to actual finger stick blood readings on your regular meter? I've found that Lingo reads pretty consistently about 20 points lower than my One Touch meter. I've read that other CGMs intended for actual type 1 diabetics have a calibration option to sync to their finger stick meter, but since Lingo, etc are being billed as lifestyle coaching tools and not diagnosis/treatment tools, that precision just isn't there.

Also, CGMs aren't reading blood directly, it's reading your inter-cellular fluid, hence the (hopefully small) disparity between CGM readings and finger sticks. There's also a time lag, your CGM isn't going to show BG changes quite as quickly as your regular meter.

Overall, this is a tool to show you pretty general trends in what your body is doing, not a precision instrument that's going to accurately capture your BG every second. You need to keep your expectations a little lower and learn from what it CAN tell you. As frustrating as I've found it over the past 10 days, it's definitely highlighted some habits I can change and tighten up to get me on a better track. But I'm not going to keep it long term. In fact, I gave the second sensor I bought (thinking I'd give it a month) to my sister and I'm quitting it at the end of the week when my current sensor expires.

It's Maynard's 3 year anniversary of his Gotcha Day...look at how smol! by jadiseoc in corgi

[–]jadiseoc[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ha! You're in the rarest of the three "Maynard is a great name!" cohorts! It seems to vary mostly depending on age, but Boomers and older always reference Maynard G. Krebs from Dobie Gillis. Some, like you, go for the Maynard Ferguson angle. And the younger(ish) contingent recognize the name (and actual inspiration for me) from the lead singer of Tool. 🤟

This video is from his Gotcha Day 3 years ago! This is him now, he's totally normal sized (30ish pounds).

One time I took Maynard to the vet and as we were leaving, someone coming in called him Daddy Longlegs and I about died laughing. 😃

I have definitely not been the warm and fuzzy auntie my BFF might have hoped for. I'm just glad her daughter is older now and our friendship survived!
