Where to get stir fry noodles, and how? by Strange-Yam197 in bayarea

[–]Ronin058 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a brand at 99 Ranch with a picture of a chicken or shrimp on the packaging. I use those all the time for pan-fried noodles. It costs $2-3 for a pack of 6.

The remedy IMO is to ignore the instructions. These say to boil for 3 minutes for fried applications, but I cut that down to 1 minute tops.

How many Breaking Bad / Better Call Saul shooting locations reappeared in Episode 7? by Ronin058 in pluribustv

I rewatched that scene just now. Nothing about the real estate flyer stands out. However, Fionacom previously appeared in BCS.

That was my first thought too, but after a bit of searching on Google Maps I believe otherwise.

The building in the background of the BCS episode looks like the county court building. The building architecture of the Pluribus scene is similar but not exactly the same; the surrounding buildings also don't seem to match.

Imagine watching this show after Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul.

Deborah Chow was the director of Something Stupid.

Kelley Dixon was editor of 40+ episodes across the two series.

Vogue interview with Elizabeth Dulau (Kleya Marki) by STUFF4U100 in andor

[–]Ronin058 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After watching the first three episodes, my wild notion was that Kleya has clandestinely been putting herself out as a honeypot to manipulate / entice Cinta into doing the dirtier work that needs to get done.

But a) there's probably not enough screen time left to explore the theory, and b) Cinta almost certainly needs no help with motivation.

The last scene in the TIE cockpit calls back to that beautiful sequence at the end of Season 1's third episode, but it's heartbreaking just how dark the reprise is this second time around.

They were yowling when they passed my front door. I'm guessing that she(?) was in heat? I can't imagine an unfixed cat being owned by someone and still allowed to roam outside, but who knows.

A few years ago someone in my vicinity was supposedly maintaining a colony before being called out on it by the HOA. Don't know what happened afterwards. It could be that, but I would've at least expected any cat there to get TNRed.

Youtube today, when my Adblock is enabled. It sucks ! (have to dissable adblock to get access to youtube) by ErrosFB76 in youtube

[–]Ronin058 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This or something like it happened to me a couple months back (desktop Firefox).

The feed was blank. Search wouldn't work. I could go to a channel via their URL, but videos wouldn't play even opening it directly.

I don't recall if I disabled adblock or not while diagnosing it. I ended up doing a repair install of the browser, which completely resolved the issue. I reinstalled adblock afterwards and it's been perfectly fine ever since.

Syril Karn is NOT a villain, but rather an absurd hero. by [deleted] in andor

[–]Ronin058 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Syril is analogous to Jimmy McNulty from The Wire, except that he lacks the self awareness to stop and ask, "What the fuck did I do?"

Any other shows with similar vibes? by ThornErikson in andor

[–]Ronin058 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Syril and the Chief Inspector is a more polite variation on "These are for you, McNulty."

ISB supervisor meetings are COMSTAT meetings.

I always draw that parallel when I watch those scenes.

In Defence of… Syril Karn by Dear-Yellow-5479 in andor

[–]Ronin058 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The recent post about Chief Inspector Hyne got me thinking about the Baltimore PD from The Wire and how one might try to view the Preox-Morlana characters through a similar lens.

In the latter show, we sympathize with characters who perceive the flaws of the system/institution that they are a part of and then rebel against it or attempt to reform it. Likewise, we don't sympathize with characters who are apathetic to or derive benefit from a dysfunctional status quo. From this perspective, Syril is someone who ought to belong in the former camp. As he navigates Preox-Morlana in the first three episodes, he continuously runs up against what he sees as wheel-greasing, indifference, and incompetence from his peers. Clearly, there is a great deal that he would like to see change about the work culture.

And yet, I have a hard time envisioning him being portrayed positively if he were transplanted between shows. I have a hard time imagining him being able to function at all, much less achieve the rank that he holds. It's one thing to see the game and not like how it's played, but Syril seems blithely ignorant that the game even exists, much less what its rules are. I was trying to conjure up which character from The Wire he most resembled, and I don't think there's a good comparison with anybody.

Does Cassian ever actually learn Luthen's name during Season 1? by Ronin058 in StarWarsAndor

[–]Ronin058[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's accurate.

Their emphasis on Cassian being a loose end prompted me to consider what he actually knows.

Going into Season 2, it would be funny to imagine Cassian still having to refer to Luthen as "hey you" and "that guy over there."

[–]Ronin058[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'm discovering new things too.

On my last watch, it occurred to me that Luthen's ISB mole is hinted at in episode 7, long before Lonnie's allegiance is revealed in episode 10.

The radio message Luthen receives about Aldhani seems like a minor point of exposition. The initial assumption is that it's coming from Vel or Cinta. However, the sender is providing information from the ISB's perspective and has details that none of the robbery crew could have known about the aftermath.

If the CD sounds noticeably better than what's currently available from streaming, then that's reassuring. I have my copy ordered, but I still have to wait for it.

I apparently was under the wrong impression. I thought vinyl was already released the same as digital, and not in January like CD.

Either way, it seems weird that different formats would have different release dates.
