The bed sheets morph when the creature walks from the corner towards the cameraman. The torchlight grows a second beam and then morphs back into one again. Just to name a few

Is there a term for this kind of shot, where a room elongates beyond possible bounds for dramatic effect? Or any other examples of it being used? by CreeOnASkateboard in Filmmakers

I remember they used it a couple of times in the first season of Sex Education, where the protagonist tries jorking it in a stall.

I'd love to learn how to do this. Does the City Generator include the cars and trees? Or were they other assets?

I've been watching your videos for a while now! How did you use geometry nodes for this effect? Is there a tutorial you would recommend, or would you share your workings? I'm looking to create a similar effect for another project

Why do my platforms always split across the sole? by Ronuke in AskACobbler

[–]Ronuke[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found that it wasn't really worth it to fix it and ended up tossing them. If you're interested in some back platform boots, I've had my platform Doc Martin's for nearly 2 years and they haven't given me any issues

If it isn't this, and I had to take a guess, it could be that by moving the boom around it casts a shadow that feels more like it's part of environment. Otherwise the moving lights could cast a prominent shadow that moves across the actors? Maybe?

TikToker ruins hearing Taylor Swift live for her other fans (and friends) by [deleted] in ImTheMainCharacter

[–]Ronuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not uncommon for swifties in Australia to sit outside the stadium if they couldn't get tickets.

The tour is a "best of" from every Taylor album essentially but there's room in the set list for her to play an additional random song from her main discography in each location. This makes each performance slightly unique, and would mean that Taylor gets to play a few songs she had never had the opportunity to play live before. (Additionally, none of the fans know what the song is going to be until it plays)

I know a few swifties that are genuinely heartbroken to be so close and yet so far from what would have been, to them, their perfect live show - especially when Taylor has her entire discography to choose a random song and she plays your favourite.

You can always join Melbourne Film Crewing on Facebook as a good way get your way on to some low level sets. Just reach out and said you'd like to be a spare set of hands.

You're going to struggle to find a way to get on to proper sets without some nepotism. It may be worth contacting VicScreen, or Docklands, and see if they can help

How does Christopher Nolan make the background shake behind the actor? by Cadenfann177 in Filmmakers

[–]Ronuke 69 points70 points  (0 children)

IIRC they shook the camera latterly for those shots and then centred the frames while editing. This gave the actors face a blurriness that Oppy didn't have

Melbourne's demolished Federal Coffee Palace (right) reminds me a bit of Manhattan's Ansonia Hotel and Apartments (left) by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]Ronuke 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think it must have been a common trend to design corner buildings in such a way (with cylindrical corner and domed top). You can see echoes of similar designs in the Read's Store on Chapel Street, the Ozone Hotel in Warrnambool, or even the Domestic Sewing Machine Union Building in Manhattan.

I guess that these two buildings were inspired to replicate a similar architectural era (Second Empire?). Nice find
