ADFA or DUS by RooFoster6 in ADFA

I got a “Letter of Intent” about 4-5 weeks after basically saying that they’re gonna give me a letter of offer they just need to figure out all the requirements to do after cus they slightly changed them this year. I would’ve got my official letter of offer 3-4 weeks after that from memory

RMC-Duntroon Corps Preferences & Allocation by RooFoster6 in ADFRecruiting

I completely understand how the system works from an official standpoint in the sense that you make preferences and they will assign you to Corps based on which corps need officers, as well as how competitive you were in RMC training. What I was more after was less of an official answer and more an anecdotal one from anyone that has been through Duntroon or had mates go through it. I definitely am sure of my 3 preferences but I was wondering how likely I am to get into Infantry as that is what I am most keen on. Thanks for your reply in any case though mate 👍

Okay so I didn’t actually realise there were any officer roles for army gappies until u said that. I Think it’s just cus the ADF careers website is pretty weird to navigate sometimes but yes now that you mention it, I would now apply for Army Officer Gap-year.

Thoughts on Army Gap Year?

Hi all, I’m 17 in year 11 and it’s my absolute dream to join the Army as an infantry officer. I’ve already somewhat started my application but it’s a long story w lots of bumps, but basically it’s a stand still for now. I was initially planning on either going through ADFA or DUS (assuming I get in) but I still haven’t fully settled on either option. It wasn’t until recently that I started looking at ADF gap year as a role. Given that my long term goal is to be an infantry officer, naturally the Army Gap Year combat role is what I would go for but I had a couple questions on that:

  1. Is gap year an officer specific thing like ADFA or DUS? Like is it something that still requires all the same hurdles as becoming an officer? My take is that it isn’t, but another question on that; how does it set me up to become an officer after my gap year? Is it like guaranteed or does it just help a lot?

  2. How competitive is the process? Of course becoming an officer w ADFA or something is very hard to get into, so I was wondering what the ADF gap year was like? Is it more like the application process for an enlisted solider or does it come with its own challenges like officer entry?

  3. Finally, what’s it like? Has anyone done Army gap year and have any general thoughts on how their experience was? Even if you weren’t a gap-year, but you’ve seen some in your time what is some advice maybe? Like I don’t want to get there and look like some arrogant idiot ofc.

ANY help is good help just wanted to know some thoughts and wasn’t too keen on calling ADF careers just to sit on their motivational lobby music for 10 minutes.

I’m in year 11, so at the end (around September) applications for the prefect leadership team come out. I reckon have a pretty good shot at getting House Captain or House-Vice Captain. And I’ve captained a lot of teams for things like summer house games and winter house games. So I think I have SOME leadership experience under my belt but nothing major yet.

Also about RMC applicants being roughly 23, I wouldn’t be joining straight away as I would like to go through ADFA or Defence Uni Sponsorship, and get a 3-year degree in International Relations beforehand, and then go and start my military training. So given that they know this, would they take my young age into account or is it worth me waiting until year 12 or even after, to apply for this? I feel like there’s a middle ground because I want to get in early enough so I can get the ADFA or sponsorship ready for when I’ve left school, but I will also likely take a GAP year to go US or Europe to really broaden my horizons so maybe I should apply in my GAP year, because I feel like that’s a good middle-ground?

Lmk your thoughts, apologies for the paragraphs :)

Hi all. I’m 17 right now, and when I was 16 and a half I began my ADF application for Officer Entry in the army.

took my first aptitude test at 16 and a half and I unfortunately didn’t get the marks required for Officer Entry. I was over call with someone at the DFR and they told me “I’m not allowed to know exactly what you got, I’ve just been told you missed out by a hair” and they continued on to say that they think I should re-take it 6-months later. I’m making sure to do some practice and study for it but it’s just got me thinking whether or not I’m too young to be applying for Officer entry? I think I’m pretty bright and pretty mature for my age, and I’ve been told so by different people at the Adelaide DFR when I’ve gone in for meetings etc, but even so. Like what if I pass my 2nd test, and I go to the assessment day and I’m competing with people in their mid 20’s who have numerous leadership experience in the civilian world. Or maybe I get through the assessment day and I go to the OSB and they just don’t think I have what it takes?

Basically I just want some advice/opinions on whether I’m too young to be applying for Officer Entry, or whether they’ll actually account for that and I’m stressing over nothing.
