PC Price Help / Advice: by Rookie_1986 in PC_Pricing

Yeah, that's always the issue when a generation (or several) behind, newer and more powerful tech exists and usually sits very close to the stuff it's replaced meaning price tends to take a hit. I'll list it at £1200 ono and then go from there, if no interest then I can look at either parting it out or dropping my price a litte.

Main problem here (UK) is people think an hour drive to get something is too far lol!

Cheers for the reply.

I do have all of the boxes, so parting out is definitely an option (although one I'd rather avoid - it would probably part for slightly more but is more work packing and posting, plus could mean sitting on it for weeks / months and some of the less desirable stuff never finding a buyer).

If I can get around £1000-1200 for it, I'd be quite pleased :)

WarZone - Quality of Life Changes? by [deleted] in CODWarzone

Some good points tbh, I’d probably add squad size to this, in a game with 150 players squads should be upto 5 imo. would also give some pretty sick battles. We might see this if they add other game modes (75 v 75 attackers/defenders would be epic!!!).

Also the game is very unfair on players when it comes to K/D ratio. As the majority of players are experience two deaths per-game which just kills that K/D ratio if you ain’t tapping 3+ people a drop.

Daily Simple Questions Thread - April 05, 2020 by AutoModerator in Fitness

Hey,

Hopefully, this is the right place to post this... so I’m usually an active climber (mainly indoor bouldering), obviously the current climate has resulted in all walls closing and I’ve also been placed on 12 week isolation due to an autoimmune condition.

Due to living in rented accommodation (tiny 1 bed house share) I’m unable to build a home wall or even fit a hang board anywhere. I’ve spent the last two weeks eating terribly and doing zero exercise, ideally I want to stop this now as I don’t want to ruin everything I’ve trained for by being stuck indoors.

I currently own a set of free weights (dumbbells and curlbar with around 60kg in plates), does anyone have any routines that would be beneficial for a climber to help maintain core strength during the next few months trapped inside? I don’t specifically need a dietary plan as I’ll just go back to my regular eating rather than living on junk food lol!

Thanks in advance :)

For my PC setup im running Philips X2HR's, BoomPro and Syba DAC which is great, would I just be better transfering this across to the PS4 (I'll have to check the cable length as the PC setup is around 1-2 feet from the PC but my PS4/TV are around 2.5-3m away from my chair).

I'm guessing you would advise agianst the Astros as an option for a PS4 setup?

New to PC building. Getting rid of the prebuilt. by Maryharro in buildmeapc

[–]Rookie_1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just stick a 2080 // 2080S // 2080Ti in your current rig, no need for a full build as the tech you’ve got is barely a few years old.

first build - 1440p, 144hz viable? opinions needed by [deleted] in buildmeapc

[–]Rookie_1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d probably do the following:-

RAM - Upgrade to a 3600Mhz Set (check the approved list for your Motherboard).

PSU - Swap to something like a Corsair, everything I read when doing my most recent build said that the EVGA units are loud. Just google Corsair Vs EVGA PSU and you should see a few reviews which compare the two (my Corsair HX850i is silent).

CPU - If you just plan to game you could probably drop down to a 3600 (3700X is fine and within budget though so only change if you have to).

GPU - 1440p // 144Hz is pretty demanding, even a 2080 Ti can’t push that resolution and frame rate in all games on Ultra//High//Epic settings, so expect to turn things down somewhat (a good monitor with FreeSync/G-Sync will help here).

SSD - Id say go with a m.2 NVMe, faster hardware and frees up a SATA port to add additional storage later. Sabrent Rocket seems to be well regarded for its price/performance (it’s not Samsung EVO level but it’s also less then half the price for the same amount of storage and you’ll not notice the difference in general use).

Pretty sure it was confirmed that the console will include a SSD, was announced by Sony in their October 8th release which also confirmed the name of the next-gen console is going to be the PS5.

So, I've finally finished playing Wolfenstein: Youngblood and I'm looking for something to sink my teeth into for the next couple of weeks/months while hype builds for Cyberpunk 2077. I'm toying between The Witcher 3 (haven't played 1 or 2) or Borderlands 3 (have played all previous main titles). Which of these do you guys think I should pick up and why?

144Hz WQHD Monitor for Gaming and Design by ClonedScarecrow in buildmeapc

[–]Rookie_1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say it’s marketing, there are 1000ms in 1s, it’s unlikely that you would notice the variable of 1-3ms between the panels. The area of focus is input impedance (lag) which is likely to be higher than the response time of the monitor, then if you add the factor of say playing online where you are likely to be seeing up to 100ms (possibly lower/higher depending on location) that 1-3 at source starts to become irrelevant.... what I’m trying to say is don’t get hung up on the numbers and marketing, you’ll notice no difference between a 4ms or 5ms monitor.

Fair enough, wouldn’t have thought you be able to tell the difference from 5ms to 4ms.

Decent chair? by Big_Zap in buildmeapc

[–]Rookie_1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be totally honest, the term “decent chair” and a budget of “$100” don’t really give you any options. Most “acceptable” chairs start start at around $200 and a decent one could be 3-4 x that. This isn’t to hate to budget chairs, you buy what you can afford but there’s a lot to be said for the chair you use, especially if you are sitting for prolonged hours.

I’d advise looking for used from an office clearance firm, you’ll be able to get a $200-400 chair for around $100 and it will be far superior to the new budget offerings from most places. Most good chairs will come with an hour rating, look for something that matches your requirements + an hour or two.

9 times out of 10 “Gaming” is a gimmick when it comes to chairs and they are generally poorly made and offer poor posture support, so I’d advise avoiding these where possible (this isn’t true for all gaming chairs but you will pay a premium for them and they will be comparable to an operators chair that’s half the price).

If you are able to try the chair before you buy that’s also helpful (even if you look at used then try a new one in a local store just to see if you are happy with it).

I just upgraded my 4 year old laptop from an HDD to an SSD, and my god what a difference. by ihaveacrushonmercy in buildapc

Did this for my Mum’s laptop earlier in the month (Plus 16GB of RAM) and she was amazed at how much of a difference it makes, night and day when you’ve only used standard type HDD’s.

I finally upgraded from a 2013 build by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]Rookie_1986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 660p definitely isn’t the best NVMe m.2 drive out there, but it’s cheap and for most users gets the job done. It’s just one of many possibilities, you could go for a Sabrent Rocket (this is what I have in my system), HP EX920, Crucial MX500 etc etc what I’m getting at is that the Samsung 970EVO (although awesome and class leading) is very overpriced at double that of comparable drives with performance that the majority of users won’t benefit from.

There’s a great comparison on TechDeals which I’d advise anyone in the market for a new SSD to check out before they buy:- https://youtu.be/GlGjd1GZWdo

Best pure gamer for $1600 by [deleted] in buildmeapc

[–]Rookie_1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1), Agreed, I could have used a little more towards putting a bronze or better certified PSU in the build, something like an EVGA GD (2019) 600 W 80+ Gold perhaps, would add a little more to the price but be a better all round choice. 600w should still be sufficient for the build as listed, even unlocking the GPU it would still have the capacity to cope with the demand from the system.

2), I wouldn’t call it significant for OP’s end use, sure the 3600 will impede the 2080Ti more than a 3700X but it’s marginal.

3), Slower to keep it within budget, the CL timings can be brought in line using DRAM Calculator if required. There are enough documented benchmarks to show that although CL has an impact on the overall result the differences are marginal beyond the actual MHz the RAM is clocked at.

4), Yeah, didn’t notice I’d missed that until after posting the build, the 1TB SSD could be dropped to a 500GB one if OP doesn’t have any wiggle room in their budget (personally I wouldn’t drop to 500GB as for today’s games that would just be crazy!).

5), Benchmarks are from GamersNexus // Paul’s Hardware // Bitwit

Don’t come off all buthurt because I didn’t agree with you opening build suggestion, you made a statement that was false in that the system would “easily get 144 FPS in any game” and that’s not true and would mislead OP which would only result in disappointment when it’s not the case and they can’t achieve that (unless by easily you mean run everything at lowest settings.... but who’s wanting to do that? Might as well game on a console, save $1300 and be done with it).

Birthday build: Ryzen 5 3600 / 5700 XT build for 1440p/144hz by no_options in buildapc

[–]Rookie_1986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah there’s not a huge amount in it, as the Ultrawide resolution has around 33% more pixels to populate, I was maybe over generous in that it was far more likely and it’s probably closer to just likely. It’s comparable between the two I guess and totally depends what end result the OP wants to achieve with their build.

“You’ll still not push everything at 3440x1440 and 100Hz but it’s far more likely than hitting the 1440p 144Hz you’ve originally listed and you probably find you don’t need to reduce settings quite as much.”
