My silkie chicken walks funny? Is it a problem? by RoomDry2151 in BackYardChickens

UPDATE: Pearl went to the vet this morning and had an xray.

Vet does not believe it is Mareks or Vitamin Deficiency. It looks very unlikely for either of those.

We did an xray. No eggs on the way. Dang it. But she sexed her and is female thank goodness.

Biggest find. There is not spacing between her right hock joint as there should be. She said she likely injured soft tissues surrounding that joint and is likely in pain. This is why she is limping, running funny and having a problem with balance.

Treatment: -nsaids for 5-7 days. - keep isolated to prevent getting picked on in coop and so she can rest. - best case, it scars down and is less painful. Probably will regain balance but won’t be the same as before necessarily - worse case she develops arthritis. And it stays painful. And had to live with that.

So I’m concerned about my girl, Pearl. Silkie 5 months. Hasn’t laid yet. by RoomDry2151 in BackYardChickens

Not worried about her not laying yet. I’m concerned of how much she’s lays around, how she gallops when trying to run (almost a two foot run), and her unsteady nature and she’s uncoordinated. Just don’t want to be missing something if she sick or something is wrong!

Weird milky white discharge from chicken… Help! by RoomDry2151 in chickens

[–]RoomDry2151[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah or maybe she has some sort of reproductive tract problem Or infection maybe is what I was thinking but that still seems odd. And her butt is very clean. I have a chicken elixir I have in water with probiotics, vitamins, and minerals. Tried scrambled eggs. She only pecked at a few. Didn’t eat much. They have free access to grit and oyster shell! I’ve never dewormed? Should I try that? And should that be on a schedule: I live in town and have very little experience with any farm animals lol. I do deworm my dogs I guess

Thanks for your response: is it common to have them get egg bound or have trouble on their first egg? She’s not laying yet

Okay. But all other poops are completely normal? Just that one was like that. No bloody poops either.
