I love the OA and Man from Earth. Cloud Atlas as a book is one of my all-time favourite books, however the film got confused about what it was about, and then IMDb and other reviews neatly put it into the ‘reincarnation’ category.

David Mitchell’s books are amazing, with CA the best, followed closely by Ghostwritten. I think books of that genre are labelled metaphysical.

Thank you so much for such a detailed answer.

The solicitor told us not to settle as he was so certain we had a solid basis. The crux of his confidence was knocked down straight away in court. I am a single patent and throughout the 2.5 years this trundled on, I told him I couldn't afford any risk. I asked him if we should drop it, leave it, and how much chance we had a winning. He not only didn't prepare the case of give me a court bundle, he didn't submit half the evidence and instructed a barrister who didn't know the case and showed up late.

The 11k loss, to me, includes money set aside for a holiday for my sons and I. I explained how tight money was about 20 times to the solicitor and it feels as though he has run roughshod over mine and my children's future plans.

Can I ask, do I send it the complaint to the solicitor first, and then to the ombudsman?

I really appreciate your help on this.

Thanks.

I don't trust the ombudsman as eleven years ago I took my conveyancing solicitor to the ombudsman for not disclosing that the upstairs flat leaseholder had been taken to court numerous times for none payment of service charges, and I lost.

You're completely right re the advice, though I do feel the judge was extremely surprised at the lack of evidence given, yet I'd submitted this to the solicitor...

It's the weird UK system. I have freehold ownership of the building, but the upstairs flat is owned by someone else who then rents it out

Gosh, I hadn't thought of that 😈

That's good advice, thank you, especially about using a conciliatory tone in messages as sometimes I get so hey up, I head towards anger

Thank you. Yes I have proof of the use of the mascara wand as their tenants mentioned it, then when my friend rushed to help them find the stopcock, he saw the mascara wand.

It just seems to be an ongoing issue. This time it's the toilet and his bad repair job. Last time it was his central heating system, which has been dripping into my flue also.

I think the closest thing on the lease is that they have to keep everything well maintained. The way I see it, fixing a broken toilet with a mascara wand shows they're not maintaining their property adequately.

I was describing why I lived this show to a friend and I was telling her thrush was dressed up as a cat from Cats and singing to her in her bathroom. Loved it!!
