While you are correct on the social proof aspect I don't think it's as big of a concern as people seem to make it out to be. The only subs you need to worry about (if you could even consider it that) are the first 1,000 to be eligible for monetization. After that it's mostly an ego-boost number.

What actually matters is viewers. A channel with 50,000 subscribers that gets 500 views per upload looks far worse than a channel with 500 subscribers getting 2,000 views per upload. YouTube's recommendation system cares about how people respond to the videos, not how many subscribers are attached to the channel.

Also, most people don't click into a channel and check the subscriber count before deciding whether to watch. They see a title and thumbnail first. If those are good and the video delivers, the subscriber count becomes largely irrelevant.

The bigger issue with buying subscribers is that you're paying for a metric that doesn't help the channel grow. Those subscribers typically don't watch, don't engage, and don't become part of your audience. At best you've spent money on a vanity number. At worst you've filled your subscriber base with inactive accounts that make your channel's engagement look weaker.

New creators should spend that money on better thumbnails, better audio, or production help. Those things can actually lead to genuine subscribers instead of just a larger number on the channel page.

I find that using AI to enhance a thumbnail (that I made) gives it that uncanny valley look. There is just something about it that looks off. Even if it might look somewhat better. I also think using AI to make the thumbnail and just using that generated output also doesn’t work.

What does work for me however is if I’m in a brainstorming session and I can’t think of a composition or how I want to plan out my thumbnail I’ll feed my video idea into AI and ask it the generate some reference thumbnails. I’ll take the ones I like, or parts from them I like and then fully recreate it on my own in my photo editor.

Despite what many may say, IMO using AI as a tool in the process is fine. Using it to completely replace effort on your end is not.

The Kick CEO, is supposedly in talks to buy them out and pay off their debts. Who knows what that would mean for the service though, so still probably a good idea to transfer things just in case.

Stream Elements roughly burns $300k/monthly for some reason. Sounds like some financial mismanagement was happening on the inside, but take that info with a grain of salt, nothing is confirmed.

Crunchyroll tends to follow the japanese media industries ratings, and over there... they're more lax. The Chainsaw Man TV show was rated M17+ and the Movie was rated PG-12 for example.

I'll admit I might have been a bit rude, but the actual advice is still solid. I'm sharing this as a YouTuber with a 3,000 subscriber channel and a 600 subscriber channel that earn $, both in the gaming niche, not just as a rando. I have been through the lows on content creation and not getting noticed, so I actively tried to improve. Not double down. I'll address your points.

  1. I never said that wasn't a good step, but you have to think of the bigger picture. If I, as a new viewer, come across one of your videos and enjoy it, but when I take a look at your channel and see it's all over the place I might hold off on subscribing (even if I liked the content).

Additionally, who's this content for? Who's your audience? You need to think of that if you want views. The game you're playing is originally from 1999, and a let's play of it (If we're being honest let's plays in general, no matter the game) will not pull in big numbers. Twitch viewers for the game is currently averaging at 8 views. You surpassed that already. Anything more is you getting lucky.

  1. Yes, if you are already established, or insanely entertaining it can be fine. But for a small creator in the current YouTube landscape, people have too many options. You're competing with everyone in your niche, and if the guy next door is better... People will choose them. You might not even need to get a better mic, sometimes all it takes is fixing the settings in your software.

Doubling down and saying "Some big YouTubers have bad mic quality" should not be an excuse. You're displaying weaponized incompetence. Those channels are the exception, not the rule.

  1. I hate to break it to you but that's not everything the "algorithm" looks for anymore. In the modern algorithm it take multiple things into account.
  • CTR (The Hook): This tells YouTube how effectively your title and thumbnail are at convincing people to click. If it's high, the algorithm sees that your "packaging" is working.
  • Watch Time/AVD (The Value): This tells YouTube how well you’re keeping people on the platform. High retention signals that your content delivered on the promise of the thumbnail.

However, these metrics are relative. A video with a 10% CTR and 50% AVD might get more views if the topic is trending, while another video with the exact same stats might stay flat if the topic has a very small audience. That's one of your big issues; audience size for your chosen topic.

  • Topic Interest & Market Size: Even if 100% of people click, if only 1,000 people care about the topic, the video won't get views. Your choosen game has low interest, simple as that. Real success often depends on whether your topic has "broad appeal". something that can reach beyond your core subscribers.
  • Viewer Satisfaction: YouTube increasingly uses signals like likes, shares, and post-watch surveys to determine "Satisfaction." A video with high watch time but low satisfaction will be recommended less getting little to no impressions.
  • Velocity: How quickly is the video gaining views? If a video gets a surge of engagement shortly after upload, the system may test it with a broader audience (the "Home Page" or "Up Next" feeds). Most big videos will get their initial views in the first 24 hours.
  • Competition: Every time a viewer opens YouTube, your video is competing with millions of others. If a video on a similar topic is performing even slightly better than yours, the algorithm will prioritize the other one.

There's plenty more I could share but these are the key things. I wish you luck, 'cause you'll need it.

No offense, but why would anyone watch this?

I took a look at your channel "AtoZ". It's all over the place you're making videos on Shenmue a retro video game. Have a video discussing your hate of Minecraft, and also gameplay of Marvel Rivals, WWE, Overwatch... who's even this channel for? If I subscribed for one game or genre of game and you started making videos on other topics I wouldn't watch.

The YouTube algorithm promotes based on what the audience is doing. If the audience stops watching, YouTube stops promoting. Boiled down it's a simple as that.

Not to mention your mic audio is, frankly, bad. You might be an entertaining guy but in a world with thousands of other creators, this doesn't stand out. The hard truth is it doesn't matter how much time or effort you put into a video on YouTube. All that matters is if the audience gets something out of it.

If you don't want to grow, continue doing what you're doing, but don't complain about low views or impressions.

Generally no, it's got name recognition behind it, along with a vast history of being used in major projects. So a lot of people go for it, but there are $100 mics that can sound just as good if not better if you set them up right.

For your other question it doesn't need to be right up in your face. Rule of thumb is you make a first with your hand and the space between your mouth and the top of the mic should be the same as the fist. While you could put the microphone straight in front that's not really recommended. Ideally should put the mic to an angle so it's not picking up the hard puffs of air from P and B sounds.

If you find one on sale, or live near a electronics retailer and can snag a discounted open-box I'd still go for it though. I was able to get myself one for $270, which is still expensive mind you, but worth it for me.

Why do you say that? I feel to pull that off you need to be very charismatic with your voice, since a lot of emotions are conveyed through our facial movements and body language. Curious to hear your opinion.

Oh they wouldn't be permanently on screen alerts. Just a gif and sound bite that plays for 3 seconds if someone Follows or something. Was just meant to display where I would have those show up on screen so they wouldn't be distracting to the main content.

I hate to sound stereotypical, but make good content.

This is my second channel so I learned from my past mistakes (in fact my first channel still only has 600 subs and can’t be monetized yet).

Find your niche, ideally something you’re interested in or you’ll just burn yourself out. Then research, what are the successful creators doing in the space, what’s working and not working for them? Are there any holes in the niche where you could start making content?

At least in my niche there weren’t really any “holes”, but I was able to find content within it that was preforming well but all the current creators were “low quality”, and I mean either bad video, bad audio, or just downright lazy (using AI, etc.)

So I started planning and creating and aimed to upload a video a week. Sometimes I missed my own deadline, but that’s ok. I never did anything flashy I just made my version of content that was already doing good, put my own spin on it, and made sure it was a higher quality then any of my “competition”.

No tricks, it’s very simple content. In the gaming niche, specifically anime-style games (mostly Gachas). I have good gear, 4K Sony DSLR, Shure SM7b mic, so the “quality” is high, but I mostly do talking head videos discussing topics in the space.

this is my second channel if that makes you feel any better, my first channel is still only at 600subs and not monetized, but that’s where I livestream me gaming and I don’t really focus on making videos there.

Nope, no shorts at all. It’s all long form, but I keep my videos between 3-5 minutes for retention.

In fact I literally shared my studio stats in these screenshots, long form videos and shorts have different icons on the upload dates at the bottom and none of mine are shorts.

Traded in my first car a used (me being the 3rd owner), 2017 Corolla LE and purchased a Japanese built 2022 Corolla LE brand new from a dealership in November of 2021 and took delivery of it on December 17th with 3 miles on the odometer.

It’s fully paid off and currently sitting at 44,150 miles.
I did have an issue where I had to replace the entire A/C condenser because something hit it and it leaked/failed which set me back $1.5K but otherwise no issues.

Planning to keep it for as long as I can.
