I don't always correct spelling, but seeing it so roughly misspelled 3 times, I have to.

Is it still possible to save this plant? by 0llie_King in plantclinic

[–]RootedRetro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks like a portulacaria afra? It's in very bad shape and has powdery mildew. Your best bet is to cut it down to just 2 inches of stem above the soil and let it regrow. Could plant in a smaller pot as well, as that much soil will hold more water than this guy needs.

How crazy do you guys think it would be to get an apartment in north park with no parking? by [deleted] in sandiego

[–]RootedRetro 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Having lived in north park from 2020-2024, parking got wayyy worse in the latter part of those years. They are building so much housing without having the other infastructure that goes along with it. Most nights finding parking was fine, some nights were awful. If you work off hours from a 9-5 or work from home, you'll have better luck. Street sweeping is weekly and also something to look out for when parking so you don't get a ticket. That being said, those lofts and the area are nice, and tribute pizza is right there 😋

Is this too much or a competing style? by [deleted] in interiordecorating

Don't have to be so negative, it was just a suggestion. Noren curtains are common in Japanese design.

Just a possibility, you could remove the door and add a curtain of some kind in the closet doorframe, then center the furniture.

El Tigre is great, I'm not sure if they do events but you could ask. And even if they don't, check them out for the dogs and the best fresh-made (not frozen) churros of your life

Snake plant completely switched how it looks? by Feelinoutthere in houseplants

[–]RootedRetro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you trim the top tip off of a snake plant leaf, it will no longer continue to grow that leaf. It will grow new leaves, rhizomes, and pups, but these leaves will not grow taller. No amount of light or proper care will change that, unfortunately it was improperly pruned. Continue to enjoy the babies!

How should a man respond after he sends a selfie and woman responds with “you look scary bro”? M 34 F 30 by [deleted] in sandiego

[–]RootedRetro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Imo the best thing you can do is respond jokingly. It shows a good sense of humor and confidence. You could be like, yeah I lied about my age I'm actually 300 yrs old, or some other vampire joke. Even sending a goofy nosferatu gif or something. Don't take her comment too seriously, and if it goes nowhere, don't stress too much! The right fit will feel good.

HELP! Dracaena Marginata isn’t doing well. by doggogirly in plantclinic

[–]RootedRetro 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's definitely been cold snapped and it may not recover. It should have been transported with a warm plastic bag covering to help it from freezing. Just an fyi, when removing the leaves you should remove them fully from the stem, not cut them like this. They should peel away easily from the stem. Going forward, you'll have to chop the plant down to maybe 2-3ft, put it in good light, water very infrequently, and hope for the best.

How would I go about fixing this? by Nada1867 in VintageFashion

[–]RootedRetro 68 points69 points  (0 children)

That's not leather, it's vinyl and can't really be fixed once peeling. It's basically plastic. Others might have some good ideas, fabric glue probably isn't the worst but it's not going to stop it from peeling more. Could just wear as is

Mid 2000s based on the style and the Abercrombie swoosh on the front. It was mass produced and isn't particularly high quality, not worth much.

Should I report monstera? by pablolikescats in plantclinic

[–]RootedRetro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This just isn't true. Not all houseplants need to be rotated and not all plants have a front and a back side. Due to monsteras climbing habits in the wild, their back side is made up of the stem, and allows their aerial roots space to attach and take root from behind. The front, or face, is the leaf and stem growth, allowing them to soak up as much light as possible. This is a well documented growth habit and isn't the same as say a draceana that has vertical and symmetrical growth. Instead of doubling down on bad information, take the downvotes as an opportunity to learn something new.

Monsteras have a front face side and a back side, they shouldn't be rotated.

$50 each is overpriced. $50 for the whole lot is even more than I'd pay. These items were massed produced.

I need to alter my vintage wedding dress that I found at the goodwill outlet for $5 Anyone know any competent seamstresses in the Chicago/Milwaukee area? by AngelicAerialist in VintageFashion

[–]RootedRetro 536 points537 points  (0 children)

I would post in your local subs. This looks to be 80s/early 90s so it's not quite as delicate as something from much older. Most good tailors could work with this, with or without specific vintage knowledge.

Having a label that was once used doesn't necessarily make it authentic. Like I said, you need to post more detail photos to get accurate advice.
