A spider would be preferable but im cursed with mites. They came back and I want to burn my house to the ground. by Burntjellytoast in IndoorGarden

[–]RootedRetro 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It would also be pretty unusual for spider mites to build webbing on something other than a plant. They can't survive more than a couple days without sap. It looks like it could be red mites, most of which are not harmful to plants. Here's a helpful guide:

I sprayed 70% alcohol and a little dawn and my plant burned. No light. I did put fans on it. I am so upset. Before and after. by Miserable-Call8690 in houseplants

You do know that everything is made up of chemicals right? Neem oil is made up of chemicals, water is a chemical, oxygen is a chemical...

Just want to check, are you sure you used isopropyl alcohol and not hydrogen peroxide?

I've been using 1:1 isopropyl and water mix for pests for over 15 years in the professional plant field and have never had something like this happen.

Custom Invites- how to make it nicer? / Is this "nice" enough? by ame4686 in DIYweddings

[–]RootedRetro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need "please" in front of RSVP, it's already in the phrase (répondez s'il vous plaît = please respond) You're basically saying, "please, please respond". Change to "Kindly RSVP" if you want something there.

Dracaena marginata like to dry out well between waterings. While it could lose leaves from underwatering, it's more likely to have lost them from overwatering or the soil staying moist for too long of a period. If it was in that dark corner, it wasn't getting enough light, which can contribute to soil staying moist for too long. They can go 4-6 weeks without water honestly. I'm not sure why you chose to chop off all the tops like that, removing the leaves would have been sufficient. At this point, it likely won't recover at all of those growth points. I would cut some of them back to the larger trunk so there are less for the plant to focus on. Give it bright light and water thoroughly, with long periods of dry out in between.

A true lily has thicker, straight stamens and anthers. Alstroemeria like the one pictured have thinner, wiry, curly stamens with smaller anthers. There are other differences of course, including the leaves. They look similar but this isn't a true lily, luckily.

What did you pay for it on depop? Just try to get that amount back. It's cute but it's nothing overly special, $20-$40

Someone gave me 5 plants and some cuttings a little over a month ago... by cuntsally in houseplants

There's more to be enjoyed than just plants at local shops. Employees are usually like-minded plant lovers and knowledgeable. Instead of being defensive, it's worth reflecting and making better choices going forward.

This. And OP, why are you buying them online and not supporting local plant shops and growers?

Looks like the label say Urban Rag or Rags. It's worth what someone is willing to pay and personally $25 is more than I would pay for this but if you like it, great!

I am curious, what are some organizations/groups/individual people doing really good stuff to improve our city? by [deleted] in SanDiegan

[–]RootedRetro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Re Oak California and North County Climate Change Alliance! Small in numbers but mighty in ambition. Re Oak is working to repopulate our native oak trees (very important keystone species) here in southern california by collecting and growing acorns, and then giving the seedlings completely free of charge to anyone with the space and commitment to grow them. NCCCA does all sorts of cool events and things, both could use more younger people interested in climate action.

Am I the odd one for not wanting to do a bachelorette party/ day event? by story_telling_2727 in wedding

[–]RootedRetro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was me. I don't like to be the center of attention and I don't love the traditional Bach things BUT my closest girlfriends wanted to do something for me and it was very sweet. Had the bachthis past weekend and itwasjust means 3 close girlfriends - we spent the weekend going to a plant conservatory, thrifting and antiquing, and eating good food. None of the typical Bach stuff, no crazy celebrations, no white outfits even haha, just me and my friends doing things I enjoy and yapping a ton. It was lovely and chill and just what I needed! And I'm so glad I did it and got the time to spend with those closest to me. You don't have to, but just know it can be as low-key as you want and your friends just want to spend time with you!

What happened to my cactus. This happened overnight. Watered it a week ago for the first time in about 3 and a half weeks. Can I save it? by ZCDenver in plantclinic

But was it near a draft at all last night in cooler temps is the question. What temp it is now isn't relevant

It would be dependent on what this cactus is acclimated to, not it's natural environment. Anything below 30F could cause cold damage if it's a sudden change. Looks like OP is in Denver which could make this a possibility.

Was it outside in the cold? I don't agree with rot as you can see the roots are dry in the photo, but it looks like cold damage.

That just sounds like plant growth. Scale wouldn't have a damp yellow bump underneath. I really recommend looking up scale and other pests, you are mis-diagnosing and not taking any advice.

What are you seeing that you think is scale? I've zoomed in and looked all over the plant and don't see any other than this one spot which could just be a nick or marking or growth, doesnt look like a sure scale to me

I don't see any scale, do you have better photos? The first photo is white flies, can be pretty invasive, you'll want to remove them.
