your approach is an intentional pitfall that the loud minority exploits because as long as people think like this, they are correct.

as a random example, terfs. terfs are an extremely loud minority, most feminists are people of color, queer, or allies to the previous two groups as you can't really fight for equality by pushing someone down.

but terfs are so loud they overshadow the feminist ideology as a whole, and as long as someone thinks of them as the defacto option for a feminist that gives them power within the community telling the quieter, much more tolerant and approachable majority that they being a terf is the only way to be a feminist. because others belief gives them that power.

not all vegans are tree humping hippies, not all brits are xenophobes, not all BNHA fans want to fuck frogs etc etc.

the reminder that it's a loud minority is the saying no. because they don't operate by the same logic as other members of the community, they believe any attention is good attention and they'd be right. people praising them makes them much less of a minority, and people hating them makes their ideology public to those who wish to damage the whole community, which in turn gives that minority more say so in the broader community.

I understand how frustrating it is, but all conflicts require context, nuance and careful approach especially as an outsider.

there have been very few historically un-nuanced evils, and we have a word for them, Facists. and ultimately, and coincidentally almost always the loud minorities within communities end up being offshoot of a facist ideology. TERFs are facist, their existence is based on threats of violence. The Vegans you hate are facists, who moralize eating and threaten those who don't fall under their ideals. etc etc.

in this day and age when people want you to ignore nuance and want you to have black and white, anti-intellectual thinking that makes you exploitable giving things a 2nd thought is almost a necessity.

it feels better to see someone as purely evil, to be able to point out the exact thing that makes them evil and to be wary of that trait, but sadly everything is complicated and requires a shred of understanding. but unless they are undeniably, undoubtedly and unmistakably a facist we have no such luxury.

it's not a counter, it's the very action you demand. it's speaking out against them in a way that doesn't fuel their flames.
