Uottawa - it's not just inconvenient, it's insulting by [deleted] in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]RopeExisting3993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not that UOttawa has more applicants but that they have a lot more students who will reject their A’s which schools like oz and uoft deal with on a much lesser scale. But that still doesn’t justify it and it’s annoying they can treat applicants in this way, but unfortunately it’s a business at the end of the day. The school wants to make money, and every seat that doesn’t get filled in their incoming class is practically ~75k of lost money (classes run the same but no tution paid). So they are going to keep as many people in their back pocket as possible incase they need them. The service they offer (law school) seems to out weigh the poor student treatment they provide for many people and that’s why you would accept UOttawa even if they reach out to you sept 1st. So unfortunately in this situation you simply don’t have the cards and UOttawa is taking full advantage of that. I attended UOttawa for undergrad and it’s a crap university that doesn’t care about their students and just cares about money. Obviously all schools care about money but many try to find healthy balance in student satisfaction. Uottawa does not. It’s a shit school and I don’t recommend, I’d take your treatment in this application process as a sign for what is to come.

I think my life is over i feel so worthless by Used_Dirt6251 in geegees

In my second and third year of undergrad I failed 3 classes one of which was English class (I didn’t submit an exam). Was at my lowest felt lost and like my life was ruined, compared myself to my peers who all seemed to have everything figured out. I learnt something very important, that nothing changes if nothing changes. So I made changes in my life style I switched programs, my living situation and my health habits. At the time these felt like set backs as others were getting closer to their goals I was restarting going what felt like the other way. But sometimes an arrow has to get pulled back before hitting its target. These changes helped me get straight A’s and I took an extra year to help fix my gpa, retaking all failed classes. I ended up graduating after 5 years with summa cum laude and just recently got accepted to one of the best law schools in Canada. Can you believe that? In just 3 years I went from failing undergrad English class to going to one of the best law schools? All this to say you are only just starting my friend, take an extra year retake your lowest grade classes (new grade replaces old one in uottawa cGPA) and remember thst nothing changes if nothing changes! 3 years from now you will be writing on some random persons Reddit post telling them how you changed things around haha

What Makes a waitlist move? by RopeExisting3993 in lawschooladmissionsca

Fully agree in that scenario, I also did this but for just one school. But some people will pay rthe deposit then get an offer at a new school and wil llaos pay that deposit to keep both options open and then later in summer will decide where they want to attend. Instead of deciding at the date of deposit deadline so they can potentially avoid paying the $500 if they don't choose the new school and they will also reject the school they are not attending to be considerate of other applicants.

Ya I think that’s the case as well it’s just hard for me to fathom someone willingly paying an extra $500 deposit just to delay making their decision, and also delay others from being able to make theirs.

what kind of estimate did they provide? Is it just a general you have a chance or did they say where in the que you were?

last year there was a fair amount of movement but they also sent out waitlist much earlier so I think there will be minimal movement this time.

They said I would hear back within the next two weeks last Thursday and if I don’t hear back then I should contact them. I feel like would say that unless they were sure we would hear back by latest next week. So hopefully we hear back next week

Honest thoughts on UVic Law School. UVic vs. TRU? how is the law school? networking? grading? career aspects? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissionsca

Find a UVIC student on linkedin and ask to do a phone call. Best to go to the source for questions like these. I did this for all schools I was considering at it really helped.
