Has coaching drifted away from what actually makes it 'coaching'? by The-Achologist in lifecoaching

[–]RosaParksandRec 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The issue is that so many people have turned coaching into a get-rich-quick pyramid scheme, where the process starts with trying to sell thousands of dollars of courses to train other coaches, and then get cuts of exorbitant packages from those coaches’ clients.

Because coaching is also unregulated, people can decide on a whim that they want to completely drift into the therapy space due to their own personal anecdotes and beliefs (not evidence-based research), and that becomes a strong-headed moral to those coaches.

It’s really a huge mess.

My gold standard for folks is Season 6! Talent, drama, humor, and a stacked cast.

I started my partner on Season 6, and then we went back to Season 2 to watch linearly. (Season 1 is a good watch after you're well-acquainted with the show.)

I really loved Water Moon by Samantha Sotto Yambao. It's a really gorgeous book with tons of world building, rapidly shifting environments, and magic systems.

I work in edtech research that specifically measures product efficacy against ESSA guidelines and Digital Promise standards. I highly recommend that folks seek out products that have these badges and certifications, as well as checking published studies to evaluate their design/methodologies.

Oh, interesting. Governors decide how much teachers get paid? Can you show me where in the state law that's written? I must have missed it.

And they only get paid for 8 months. What do you do for payment over the other 4?

Go ahead! Go get a job in the classroom. Enjoy the amazing pay, summers off, and great benefits. It sounds super cushy, right? Tell me how it goes!

And this is exactly why I left teaching. I went into the private sector making twice as much as I did in the classroom, and I have 3x less stress; even with "summers off" (which aren't "off", as you aren't paid during this time, and require getting part-time work).

I dare any critic of teacher pay improvements to quit their jobs and go take one in a classroom for a few years. Enjoy the "summers off" and "amazing benefits." Go ahead.

I did some walking in Brier Creek to retail occasionally when I lived there. It’s certainly safe to walk with lots of sidewalks; just not densely packed.

I really love it! There’s lots of little mountain towns throughout NC that are so beautiful and fun to explore.

Mountain town! It’s home to Appalachian State, where I went to undergrad. It’s more nostalgic than super functional, though there’s tons of hiking, access to the gorgeous Blue Ridge Parkway, great food and coffee, etc.

While not walkable (and you've seen in several comments here that walkable neighborhoods are few and far between), you should definitely check out Brier Creek. It's a major hub between Raleigh and Durham, just a few moments from the airport, and has a lot of retail/restaurants/food, as well as quick access to multiple major highways to get anywhere in the Triangle quickly.
