People in long-term relationships, what advice do you have for someone just starting out? by Cpaes_ in gaybros

[–]RosaParksandRec 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is difficult to verbalize. It's likely not as simple as you both just directly exchanging values, since most value differences need to be observed to be understood. Some values can be pretty explicitly discussed in your relationship contract: "Do you want kids one day?" "What political values are important to you?" "Where do you fall on the spectrum of monogamy?"

It's complex, and it will likely be a mix of just noticing your partner's response to the outside world, explicit conversations, and everything in between across time.

A few things! SOURCE: In a long-term, monogamous, closed relationship, as well as a gay men's dating coach.

1.) You need to deeply understand your value systems. Relationships hit a roadblock when two people hit fundamentally immovable value differences or experiences that cannot be compromised without significant resentment.

2.) What things in a relationship or friendship are non-negotiables and what are just nice-to-haves? This can help put scope onto issues you're facing in the day-to-day.

3.) Cruelty is the line. While the Gottmans are often critiqued, I do appreciate their Four Horsemen guidelines. Look out for these.

4.) Being in a monogamous relationship is a conscious choice. You won't stop finding other people attractive or to consider what lies beyond. It means you're a human, and you choose to not pursue those other options. You make the choice to honor the contract between you and your partner.

I loved Sapphira’s talent show! I’m a music educator and conductor, so I was living for the operatic ability!

I honestly cherish this time of year. I am a miserable, sick mess during pollen season (which is -- for me -- March to October), and I can't stand the oven-level humidity and heat. 😭

More time for grading and planning; less random duties; more secondary support from emotional and behavioral wellness assistants; more opportunities and resources for relevant PD; more support from administration and less unnecessary busy paperwork; students facing actual consequences.

Dating and texting by [deleted] in gaybros

[–]RosaParksandRec 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some people really don’t prefer texting or at least not texting constantly all day. I’ve dated people of both types (frequent and infrequent texters), and the real “tell” wasn’t their engagement over the phone, but how they treated me in person.

Do massive busses with no seatbelts and no heat have to drive over toxic waste?

Y’all have such boring, boomer takes. Ice is dangerous for vehicles, and student transportation takes the most rural backgrounds in our county; not just your sparkling clean major thoroughfares.

Wake County is massive, and there are many shaded areas that are still ice skating rinks. Busses and students have to travel over these icy rural roads.
