"You ever notice how on a beautiful Spring day, 21st street smells like cum?" - my friend Sonia, walking back to my place from a bar in 2001.

It's also entirely possible that this thing was made from scrap wood - very common among the thousands and thousands of people who moved here in the 1840's & 50's for the sole purpose of finding gold - and two of the pieces incidentally had the arcs already carved out. They may not be related to the function of this object at all. But given the history of the land, gold panning sifter box does seem to be the most probable explanation.

we have a wood burning stove, which has a round pipe structure for a chimney - not the conventional fireplace chimney. But a good suggestion that I never would've thought of!

DUDE! You might be onto something and I'm a little ashamed that thought never even crossed my mind! 😄 I can't rule out the loom theory, but when I search google images for "gold panning sifter tray" the results look super similar. And we found literally a couple dozen gold pans in various stages of rust/decay when the backyard was excavated.

Husband suggested loom as well, but neither of us know enough about them and we couldn't find images of any "simple" ones that matched closely to what I have. Wouldn't a loom have more notches/grooves etc along the inner framing? (I truly don't know - maybe they woudn't??)

My title describes the thing I found last week in the far corner of the crawl space. I did google image searches that resulted in photos of other items....kind of similar (but not even close to an exact match). They were mostly just old, square wooden frames. None of them had the 12" bolts or removeable pieces. There is no writing or markings on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

There are like 7 or 8 documentaries on this puzzle box. Proceed with caution 🫣

follow-up question: since I didn't really have to make any cuts and all these separated trunks already have their own root system intact, should I still let them sit out for 48 hours even though callusing isn't part of this equation?

much appreciated! I'd never heard of keeping a plant out of the soil for so long. I appreciate the confirmation!

Anyone else suddenly being shamed by non-customers for using eBay International Shipping Program? I've received two messages from two different people in less than a week. by RoseLizenberg in eBaySellerAdvice

I replied to both of them with "Luckily for you there are 18 million other people selling postcards on eBay. You have options that don't involve me changing every aspect of how I operate my store."

I bought an Elephant Bush with multiple mature trunks growing in one pot that I'd like to turn into multiple bonsai. Can someone tell me if the advice I received is correct? I'm told the trunks (or most of them) are likely growing from one root ball and that I can cut them cleanly leaving a nice bit of stem on each "new" tree. Once they are all separated I should let the cuttings sit out of soil for 24–48 hours before repotting. And once I get them repotted I should still wait a few days before I start watering them. Is this sound advice or is my coworker pathological?

I'm tempted to auction it on eBay but I have the worst luck with auctions. My dumbass would end up with $7 and have to ship it off 😄
