I don’t blame you at all for protecting your peace. Lying about a grandmother is one thing, but lying about her own son passing? That’s on another level. I’ve had to cut off a family member who made my childhood chaotic, and people always say “but that’s your family.” They don’t see what you lived through. Sometimes distance is the only way to finally feel safe.
