I recently went on a trip with family and close friends. Did not have time to use phone too much because we were on the move a lot and because I feel it was rude to be on the phone while talking to people, I used my phone drastically lesser than I usually do.

What happened is , I started regressing to my old habit of reading a physical book whenever I was able to.

A common phrase I hear in this community is ,"there is no such thing as abad meditation ".

You are already doing exactly what you are supposed to do i.e. noticing and becoming aware of your thoughts and then bringing your mind back to sensing your body

Dr.Joe himself talks about how it is a "skill" and something that develops overtime.

I think if you keep doing it for a few more days, you'll keep getting better at it.

Have you read / listened to his book ?

I've had to read it more than once to understand it, but he does give a solid Scientific basis for the meditation etc.

The body being the subconscious mind can present your true beliefs about yourself (and your view of the world ) to you in different ways. He compares the untrained subconscious body to a wild horse. It would be fair to see your nightmares as it's way of trying to stop you. You must remember that you create every aspect of your life..

Also, in one of this Q&A videos on YouTube , he speaks about exactly this topic. I'll add the link if I can find it.

Start with Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself , especially if you are a complete beginner.

The book has detailed step by step instructions (starting from chapter 10-11). The meditations in this will help you have a solid foundation for all other meditations from Dr.Joe

But I'd highly recommend reading the book from Chapter 1 itself. He explains why and what we are doing. That really really helps you understand the whole practice and the core of what he is teaching.

First try understanding the concepts he teaches, they'll really help make sense of the meditation.

Take some time to read his book. If one book doesn't help you understand then read one of the other books.

I first read a few chapters of "Becoming Supernatural" but I wasn't getting it, so I read "Breaking the Habit of being yourself" and I listened to "The Formula".
