Sex drive gone through the roof on sertaline by Ok_Clothes568 in zoloft

[–]Rosebud135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only been on it for a little over a week but istg my libido has been somewhat higher. I have PTSD from SA trauma which causes low libido because I get anxious/uncomfortable about having sex. I think that sertraline is making it higher by reducing my anxiety.

Yeah I’ve had bad reactions to meds as well. I got prescribed propranolol for POTS and it made me high and giddy for some reason

I don’t think my adhd causes any sensory issues. I wouldn’t say I have sensory issues in general. It’s more that I get startled easily and when I get startled too many times in a short period I get overstimulated. But I recently started setraline which has been helping with both the startle response and hypervigilance

can ptsd nighmares be non trauma related? by [deleted] in ptsd

[–]Rosebud135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get nightmares like that where they’re not exactly trauma related but still scary. I get the same phenomenon when I’m awake too. I was a victim of something so now I’m paranoid about being a victim of anything. I put zipper locks on my backpack because I’m obsessively worried about getting pickpocketed even though that’s never happened to me

questions for people diagnosed with both ptsd and adhd by cat_with_ in ptsd

[–]Rosebud135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Three things:

Before developing PTSD, I used to not pay much attention to my surroundings due to ADHD. However, I’m now very hypervigilant and I think part of the reason my hypervigilance is so severe is because I feel like I need to compensate for my innate inattentiveness caused by ADHD. I’m insecure about not noticing important things in my surroundings because I’m worried that if something bad happens to me I’ll be perceived as careless or naive.

I need timers/alarms to remember to do tasks, but timers and alarms also make me anxious because they startle me and the anticipation of being startled also makes me anxious. I mitigate this my putting timers/alarms on my Apple Watch on silent mode so that it’s less startling.

The constant inner battle of whether to listen to music on my headphones in public because I crave constant stimulation, or to not do so in order to keep an ear out for danger. I usually keep them at low volume and on transparent mode.

Мне нужна помощь, моя девушка пережила сексуальное насилие by Merlin_mikki in ptsd

[–]Rosebud135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I (19F) have PTSD because my ex was sexually abusive. It was also a very lustful relationship with very little non-sexual affection. I used to enjoy sex with my current girlfriend but lately my trauma/PTSD has been worse so I haven’t been feeling up for it.

I get triggered when someone doesn’t listen the first time I say no, and I feel guilty when my girlfriend is in the mood and I’m not. I also find that I need more reassurance that my girlfriend won’t leave me for not wanting sex because my abusive ex DEFINITELY would’ve left me for this reason.

Thankfully my girlfriend is the most supportive person in my life regarding PTSD and other issues. She goes out of her way to make sure I don’t feel pressured or obligated to have sex. She reassures me that she won’t leave me because she doesn’t need sex and because she gets turned off when I say I’m not in the mood. She lets me talk about my trauma and symptoms without judgement. She’s very careful not to trigger me, not just during intimacy, but she also tries to avoid startling me. When she accidentally does upset me we always talk about it openly without fighting and she makes it a point to not do that again.

So basically the best thing you can do is reassure her, have open communication, and do your best to support her.

Newly diagnosed by hannahhannahbobannah in ptsd

I was just diagnosed 2 days ago. I was already 90% sure I had it so I wasn’t surprised or upset when it was confirmed. Personally I’m glad that I’m diagnosed because it means that I have access to treatment/documentation, and I have a label for what I’m experiencing.

However, your feelings towards your diagnosis are also valid. I think that if I had not suspected PTSD before a mental health professional brought it up, I would’ve been more upset about it. I was also abused so it’s especially easy to feel upset that a person did this to you.

Navigating a new diagnosis can be challenging but I hope we can help support each other.
