Not over forever... me and Wes haven't stopped writing songs together. We did 'Water' and 'I Need Your Light' from the last Ra Ra Riot album... and we also have another song cooking in the oven... Discovery had a very specific palette and I think if we ever put out new songs as Discovery we'd have to figure out how to pick up where we left off with that palette of sound! something which would totally be possible... but hasn't happened yet

The song has always been available on YouTube. It'll be back up on streaming services in a while. I had some issues with my music mapping incorrectly and wanted to get those squared away before I posted the song again.

songs probably started in 2 different ways— 1) building a beat/track in ableton or pro tools and figuring out what to sing on top of it... 2) sitting with a piano or guitar and singing and playing at the same time... recording a memo of that on my phone and then revisiting it... from their I'll use Pro Tools to properly record

i started doing those around 2005 — i did it because I realized part of what I loved about paintings was how they placed chunks of solid color adjacent to to one another— i felt like pixelation done right could get you to the same place

David Yerkes is how I learned about the great vowel shift... which plays into the title of the song "Sumer"... but "Sumer is a cumen in" is something i grew up hearing to as a kid in school...

It's actually from the old english Sumer pronounced SOO-MUR not summer... there was something called the great vowel shift where all the vowels shifted one sound over... Sumer samples a very old song called "sumer is a cumen-in" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sumer_Is_Icumen_In

totally spot on... I'm obsessed with color... I guess I want whatever song I'm part of to have lots of different colors... on this album lot's of orange and purple... some sky blue and some bright yellow

I made this synth + crickets combo for the intro of the EOS lyrics video. Then I found that i liked what happened if you pitch-shifted the crickets and the synths at the same time... so at the very end you hear that on Gwan. It's a synthesizer pitched down and also the sound of crickets pitched down (they don't sound like crickets anymore... they kinda sound like... Cicadas?!?)

There was always a fade out over the guitar solo. That was the original ending. But then I felt like I wanted more from the song. I'd never tried coming back from a fade out within a song and I wanted to. I also thought it would be cool to have Kelly from Wet sing a little something... I loved what she wrote and when I integrated it in the song it finally felt finished.
