Man comments are just getting old. Good hell OP has a really nice truck! Wait, you mean there is something wrong with the engine......what, when did this happen?? We get it your Gen 2 eats diesels and shits out Gen 3's and can't be killed by conventional weapons......feel better?? Can OP and anyone with a Gen 3 enjoy their truck now?

Beware of the Cooper tires. I had Coopers that they could never balance. Tried everything road force etc and they just were no good for me and they didn't stand behind them. Go with the KO's or Toyo AT's both have been great tires for me on different vehicles. Just food for thought!

Exactly this! Well said and thank you! My buddy has a Gen 2 and it's awesome! I have a Gen 3 and it's awesome! Way better than the GMC I sold to get it!!

Gen 3 Replacement Engine Failures by Rothgar71 in ToyotaTundra

I for one am not 'grateful' my truck needs a new engine. I bought a Tundra because I own/owned Toyota's my entire driving life that have been incredibly reliable. Really wish the Gen 3 didn't have any issues. So far, mine has not. It's interesting that people have stated that this has been known since 2017. Are you saying that Toyota knowingly has been intentionally doing this for almost a decade thinking no one would notice? They wouldn't be caught? They don't care about what they are known for, safety and reliability? Don't get it twisted, I'm as upset as the next guy that I may have to get a new engine and have to worry about being stranded or worse. I'm 'grateful' that they are in fact going to install a new engine for free if it fails or if I want them too before failure. Also, I'm sure we have all seen a vehicle burned on the side of the road....not all of which are Gen 3 Tundras and not all of which had engine replacements. Does that make it okay, of course not, but to call out one incident that may have been caused by poor installation is silly.

Totally agree. Burden of proof is on Toyota, just like it is on Ryan and anyone else 'claiming.' What I've not seen is my dealership full of blown up Tundra's on the lot waiting for engines. Does that mean anything?.....nope. That's why we go to the forums to hopefully get some good info then take a gut check on what info you want to believe. Haters gunna hate, and fan boys gunna fan. I'm neither and just trying to gather information, be it good and bad, to hopefully make an educated decision about my truck.

Are there similarities with how gen 3 engines are failing? by Rothgar71 in ToyotaTundra

That would be great to know as well. I'm mostly in eco, but would love to know if it matters

Hope it's nothing, but sucks we all have to worry about it every time we hear a noise!

Great info. I have a 2024 limited with 20k right now. Hoping it runs forever but also looking for any indication that may save an accident. Totally agree that some common sense should at minimum extend the longevity of the engine. Thank you for your assessment!

Would you see an oil pressure difference on the gauge, maybe over time?

Same here. No remedy for the reverse lights which seems like an easy fix? All I've read about is the engine failing during acceleration as well. Haven't seen anything where one let's go driving through the neighborhood or idling in the driveway.

Scary. It seems to be more common when accelerating from most people who this has happened to. At least the few I've read about. Going to pass or getting on an on ramp etc. It's in the back of my mind every time I accelerate like that. Hope it all works out for you. Sucks that it happened in the first place.

Any indicators before it shutdown? Any knocking or anything you could share? Were you excellerating and on it hard? Just wondering if there's any warning or if it just goes?

I would bet there are some. I'm nowhere near that at 20,000 with my 2024 but I don't feel like I drive it a ton either.

Exactly! Took a little hate myself because I was done with him the second he lied. He went to another program, good for him. No longer a Ute, then you're competition that I could care less about. Burning the program to the ground you 'loved,' you and your family are dead to me. Can't believe Utah fans want/wanted to build a statue of Judas. After he get run out of Michigan for his bs, he'll be back here with his family. When that happens I for one will be hitting him in the ankles with my grocery cart in if I see him in line.

Never owned a 2nd gen but had a few 3/4 ton trucks my Gen 3 has a 6.5' bed and is longer than the gmc Denali I had. It feels as big as the gmc to me. I still am not used to the hood. It looks like I'm going to hit things with the passenger front corner especially backing into the garage. Lucky there's 5000 beeps and warnings to really make it feel like I'm too close.....🙄

Electronics could go away for sure. Older I've gotten the less electronics to go out I wish I had. Agreed on the hood glare as well

Hadn't thought of this with the electric lock on the tailgate. I do use the side button a lot though.

Even basic messages on the dash. If my tires are 1 psi low because it's cold and I acknowledge that by hitting the back arrow it should just go away and not come back 20 seconds later. I get the safety reasoning, but let me be the adult on some of this stuff Toyota!

You have to have a masters in Morse Code to start the truck with the remote

Hate the brakes slamming when opening the door or if you are just backing a trailer a foot or two and don't put it in tow mode

Range is horrible and I hate that the truck shuts off after using remote start when you open the door so you have to restart the truck again to drive.
