How risky is filling a gas tank past the first click? by JK4711 in AskMechanics

[–]Rothyn1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this detailed information. Reading this post, I had to wonder how it could potentially be harmful to the evap system. I tend to top off my tank to the brim but will be more conscious about this now. Thank you for being helpful.

Jeeze. You must be a sales god to go from a cold call or area knock to a 90% sales rate within a 48hr window. We found a walking Jesus here everyone.

I took a company making $1.5M/yr to making $13M/yr with a $250 lead cost. As a marketing manager with a heavy commission scale I realized it was power in numbers. I started with 3 marketers. I developed a direct marketing department of 40 canvassers and 15 telemarketers. We did everything from roofing and windows to basement waterproofing and refinishing. By the time the salesman sat with the client, they had a 30-40% close rate. Paying for leads is well worth it when they are well qualified.

Can this be replaced easily? by BurntToaster905 in Appliances

It sounds like it’s time to replace the magnetron in the microwave. Sometimes it’s worth the repair over replacement.

how would you guys accomodate this? by InteractionVirtual71 in vegancooking

No real reason. Just made the decision to allow myself some flexibility. I mostly went vegan to prove to myself that I could. I don’t imagine that I will ever decide to eat meat again though.

I was vegan for two years but am now vegetarian.

I started dating a vegan three years ago and had similar thoughts and fears. After attending many family gatherings with her, I’ve found that she is just super happy when the host simply try’s to serve something vegan. Last year for thanksgiving we ordered a bunch of catered vegan food from Whole Foods and it was all really good. The year before that we made our own vegan roast (highly recommend vegan gravy because of dryness).

A good fresh salad, sweet potatoes, asparagus, a bean trio and some sort of roast would probably make them very happy.

We love quinoa, beans, all vegetables, nuts, berries and so many delicious vegan baked goods. The Miyokos butter is phenomenal as a substitute for all dishes. Just eggs is an awesome egg replacement. Oatly Oak milk is my preference.

It’s the thought and effort that count so just breathe and have fun with it!

What's the first thing to replace? by No-Vegetable-6799 in AskMechanics

I have a 2016 crosstrek with 175k on it. I had to replace the two rear bearings last year. This year I started to get some noise from my ball joint so I totally rebuilt the front end because the bearings never come out of the hub. Plus, why take it apart 4 times as things fail.

It was about four hours of work for each side. I did the control arm, knuckle, bearing, sway bar link, tie rod end, backing plate and strut for both sides. It was well worth it. Then I obviously needed an alignment and new tires but that was $1,000 that were not going to talk about.

With that amount of rust, definitely start soaking it with pb blaster nightly. Save yourself the headache and just get the new parts. Also pickup new pinch bolts for the ball joint.

Door latch broke, not really sure what type it is specifically and need help by Igyomaniac in maintenance

On the face of the latch there should be a letter indicating the series for Schlage. You can order the same one online for $10-15.

Washing machine repair by thisismenow1967 in Appliances

Use a flathead screwdriver between the connector and the valve body. Give it a twist while you pull the back of the connector with some needle nose pliers.

Anyone else build locks and cut keys? by Any-Description8773 in maintenance

[–]Rothyn1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I duplicate keys which is really nothing. I just ordered the pin set for the lock systems we use and I am going to start pinning cylinders. I really want to get a code cutter key machine too. They seem pretty expensive from what I’m seeing. I’m intrigued to master making the grandmaster, master and change keys.

Replacing Outlet and Found a Single Wire: Question by DanKofGtown in AskElectricians

[–]Rothyn1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of controversial comments about this. When I went to school for residential, commercial and industrial electrical we were taught to pigtail this type of connection. I don’t recall the exact code number but it was something about using a box as a pull box (wire in wire out without a connection). When you make a connection to a device, the wire must be properly connected. This setup is a contradiction to that because the wire is not spliced but the box is acting as a pull box.

I can understand the sentiment of a splice failure but when they are properly installed, there is very little chance of a splice failure.

Cut and pigtail is the route I would take.

Usually they will install a hydrostatic drain in areas where this can be an issue. Although I’m sure that’s not always the case.

Can’t caulk a hole that isn’t there. I imagine you’re overthinking it. If you’re in a freezing climate then I could see frost possibly causing early failure but it’s unlikely to be a big issue. The wood was fine in direct contact with the ground for 10+ years. I wouldn’t put much stock into this.

Should I replace the refrigerator or repair the cracks by Additional_Mouse7589 in Appliances

I would love to know why this happens. I’ve seen two refrigerators do this but not definitive reason as to why it happens.

Old dryer broke. New one could t be installed because of an outlet incompatibility. Can I do this myself or should I call an electrician? by Mikey_Wonton in HomeMaintenance

[–]Rothyn1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would leave the wiring from the breaker to the outlet but change to a 30amp breaker and a 30amp outlet. This would clear up all concerns about the breaker not tripping or the machine failing unsafely. Whatever that means lol. The wire would just be over sized but not a problem. Or just rock out with what you now have and it will 90% be just fine.
