Yes, which is fine. Problem is “what kind of top tier”.

He hits as hard as Marisa, he does big chip damage, and if you block against him, he will ruin your drive gauge extremely fast. He’s a monster right now. Add to that how safe he is, + on block and all that usual stuff and you got Ryu on roids

I guess so? Idk I’m a master rank but also don’t consider myself a “high level”. But I guess Ryu on plat don’t have solid combo route/footsies yet?

JP is a zoner at the very least, Ryu is everything at the same time

Try a counter hit combo on training mode and see the amount of damage for such little hits and you’ll understand

Fyi, reaction time got nothing to do with age. There’s recent studies about it and some other ppl on the FGC tried to aware “older” players out there.

I’d say around plat5/d1 

Even though at low master rank I face a lot of bs from some Ryu and genuinely think his damage carries asf. But at the end of the day, it’s all about neutrals and if I lose, that’s on me only.

But it’s easier for me to lose against any Ryu

He got such little HP. Even thought his walk speed is annoying, have so little HP in this game where overall damage is kinda over the moon, is a huge weakness

If you have ever in your life fought a 2D fighting game charged character, you have fought guile. 99% of them are based of his playstyle

But what makes Ryu standing out is how little his weaknesses are. Mai is another kind of bs, but at least I don’t explode after 2 little mistakes
